I was denied my CCW permit because I'm a veteran who sought help for PTSD.

I applied for a CCW permit so that I could carry while on duty. I am a full-time national guardsman who wears a target to work everyday. I don't have the protections of an active duty post, with checkpoint entrances, armed guards, and ID. I work in a regular building, that has no fence, just a locked door.I was denied because I sought help for PTSD in 2009. I was waiting on my VA appointment when my family asked me to go to the local mental health ER, so I did. I talked to the doctor for maybe 10 minutes, he prescribed an anti-depressant and told me to follow up with my civilian doctor by getting a referral to a psychiatrist. In that ten minutes, at some point the doctor must've annotated that I either abuse alcohol, illegal drugs, or prescription narcotics, because that is the basis they denied me on. I did not abuse drugs or alcohol, nor did I tell him any such thing. The sheriff's department is working with me to get a note from my current doctor and to resubmit my case. The only reason they are working with me is because I was already in conversation with a higher up due to their backlog. That higher up confirmed they have no medical professionals interpreting the medical records they receive. Just a run of the mill clerk, who has no medical training.I am looking for a few others in my situation locally, and from there will go to the local media with my story. I will also email this synopsis to my representatives and elected officials. And the NRA, 2AF, and IAVA (Iraq veterans). Anybody who will listen.I've told me troops that if they need help, they need to reach out. That it won't be held against them. I lied to them. I am being denied a constitutional right because I served my country, and then had the audacity to seek help for the mental strain my service caused me.Good luck, America. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/1T5EwKd
