Situational awareness. First time I was glad I had a CCW

When I got off work, my 4yo daughter and I went to the park. This park is set up with a roundabout/parking area on one side of the play ground and the community center building on the other side. There is a road connecting the two with tennis courts in between the road and playground. We stayed at the playground until it was too dark to play. I had parked next to the community center. We were the only people there, that I could see, and there were a couple of cars parked in the roundabout and no personal vehicle by the community center. As we started to walk to my car, a car in the round about area turned on it’s headlights and kept pace with us on the other side of the tennis courts but behind where we were walking . I noticed this and stopped to pretend text on my phone. The car stopped. When we stared walking again, the car stared rolling again at our pace.We were approaching the community center parking lot and the car turned into the parking lot (they could have continued through on a road). Instead of going to my car, I took my daughter and myself behind the community center building to appear as if we were walking to the other side. I put my hand in my Ruger LCR and we waited there for a minute while told my kid to be quite. We walked back to my car and the suspicious car was waiting on the car side of the community center, headlights off and brake lights on. It was waiting parallel to the building and perpendicular to the parking spots. At this point I had a huge adrenaline rush and got my kid in the car as fast as possible and got the hell out of there.Note the community center was closed so they could not have been picking someone up.I called the non emergency line as soon as I got home. Was it a coincidence? Maybe, but it doubt it. I imagine they were going to mug me, car jack or worse. I don’t think I was overreacting. I did not confront them nor did I stick around. I got my kid to safety as quickly as possible. What if I had been distracted by my phone the entire time and didn’t see them? Maybe nothing, maybe something horrible. This is the first time since I got my CPL two years ago that I was glad to have one.Stay aware of your surroundings, if something feels off do not ignore it! And always retreat if possible, no one wants to get into a gun fight. This also encouraged my to carry my semi autos more often, LCR only had 5 rounds. What if there was 3+ guys? I carry it for connivence but if two assailants had Glocks I would be seriously out gunned. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3mKq4OQ
