For all you .380 carriers out there: I bought my wife a 380 EZ for her night stand gun as she has trouble with racking the slides of most of the 9mm's we tried out.I've watched a few youtube videos and studied the lucky gunner testing, but (with the lethality debate aside) I just wanted a feel for what actual .380 users carry. Thanks in advance your replies. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2JF5Wtr

Walther PK380 vs. S&W Model 59 for EDC
Both SA/DA, the Model 59 is 9mm but with a DA trigger pull so tough I'd have to carry cocked and locked, and then of course the PK380 is a 380. Thoughts? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2vZvIXp
Thoughts on a sidecar style AIWB holster for subcompact? Specifically the P365?
Got a sidecar coming in for my VP9 from some no name holster maker (it was cheap, trying out the style) but I was curious if anyone uses those style holsters for smaller guns? Seems like a big gun kinda thing. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2HG9xa4
Another extremely boring holster recommendation post - for a Shield of all things.
I'm finally getting with the times. After a decade of carrying mostly revolvers and the occasional DA/SA Sig, I picked up a new Shield 2.0 9mm on Saturday. A combination of the 20% Academy coupon code and the $234.08 I had in Academy gift cards meant the gun itself only set me back $150, so I really couldn't not buy it. I've been eyeing one for a long time.On a side note, I think that will be the last time I order a gun online at academy. They only let you put in two gift cards at once, so I had to go to the store to use multiple gift cards to buy one big gift card. Then my online order status was just "submitted" for a week, with none of the promised email and text notification when it arrived in "3-4 days." I went to the store to bitch, and as it turns out, they had it. I wonder how long it would have been before they bothered to let me know.ANYWAY, I'm going to need a holster. I've been on this sub for a long time, so I have the basics sorted out. I've just got a few finer points I'd like some help with. This is what I'm considering buying at this point. I want a "single clip" style holster, but with soft loops instead of the usual "clip over" clips that most kydex holsters feature (I've tried them, they hang up on my shirts when I draw). I know JM Custom Kydex is well regarded, and this holster seems to check all the boxes of what I want, but even so I have a few concerns.First of all, there are some options that are not available with the "quick ship" holster, notably the "long" option. I don't use a proper gun belt (one reason I carry small guns is so that I can get away with using whatever belt my outfit dictates), so I'm a bit concerned about the so-called "roll out." I wouldn't worry except that the shield is the exact gun they use in the FAQ description of what the "long" option is. Can anyone weigh in on that?Second, what about ride height? I'm sure "long" has even more bearing on that. The quick ship shield holster doesn't specify. What it pretty much comes down to is this: I feel like I'll probably be happy with the quick ship, but I'd hate to constantly wish I went custom. But I don't even know what kind of custom I would want. Also, I know there are tons of other choices out there. I was looking at Dara Holsters, especially in light of how often u/daraholsters contributes to this sub, but I don't see that I can get the soft loops in the hip carry IWB holster. I'm not an appendix guy. If I'm wrong I'm sure u/daraholsters will sort me out. There are plenty of other choices, too, like Vedder, but I don't like the clip style (again, looks pretty similar to the ones that catch my shirt). Also, I've been doing this long enough that I don't really need adjustable cant. I'm a 15 degree FBI cant sort of guy.I'd love to hear any input. Also, I'll still defend revolvers for concealed carry. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2rcVAKD
VA campus carry penalties? [x-post /r/VAguns]
In the interest of knowing the law as fully as I can I have been trying to find both the violations a concealed carrier can commit in VA and the penalties for those violations. This has been pretty straightforward so far, but I'm having trouble finding the penalty for violating a public college/university's policies regarding carrying firearms in buildings on their campuses. Even attorney websites I've looked at (such as this one) don't mention the penalties anywhere (if they talk about campus carry at all). Does anyone know what the penalties are and, if so, can you direct me to the section in the VA code that lists them? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2r9Gup5
Want to share a little story about awareness
A while back I stopped to get some tobacco for a friend. Two places didn't have the kind I was looking for, and by the time I hit the third place, I was getting into a pretty shitty part of town.I go in and see the kind I need behind the counter. I get in line behind one lady. There's a young woman working the counter, and she's the only worker I can see, and she's about 100 pounds. So just me and two younger women in the store at this point.A fella shambles in wearing a hoodie with the hood up and his hands in his pockets. This was immediately weird to me because it was over 90 degrees outside. He also left his Challenger running and parked sideways across two spots. When he walks in, the cashier glances at him and I think she looks uncomfortable. All my alarms are going off now.I realize if I stay in line, then when I'm finished I'll walk out of the store and leave him alone with the cashier. Something just didn't feel right, and I always trust my gut. I got out of line and walked behind the guy to the humidor. The guy looks and me and seemed to want to wait on me, but I didn't get back in line. I watched him as he mumbles something to the cashier, writes something on a piece of paper and gives it to her, doesn't buy anything, and walks out. She reads the paper for a good 30 seconds after he left although he couldn't have written more than a few words. At this point she seems pretty visibly shaken.I buy the tobacco and ask her if everything is alright. She says yes. I asked if she was sure, she said yes. I didn't push it. I did check to make sure the guy was gone when I left.I don't know if I prevented anything that day, but a little awareness goes a long way. Plenty of folks wouldn't have given any of this a second thought. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2JG78wK

Idiot at home depot
Standing in line, next up to register, when a guy comes up with his merchandise. An associate is with him, tells the cashier his stuff has a discount. Customer stands there for a second, then says something about he better go to the end of the line. The guy behind me says, with a chuckle, "yeah, or the might have to be some trouble ".Guy with cart says, loudly "I hope you're packing, because I am", directed at the guy behind me.Ok guy, we get it, you have a gun. So do I, and probably several others. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2HDb0xP
Looking for advice: First handgun
Hello all!New to this subreddit, but I love what I've read so far. I've been planning on getting my carry license and buying a handgun for a while now. I figured this would be a good community to get advice from.I want to carry in a shoulder harness or appendix carry. I don't mind spending more for ammo if it makes a big difference. I understand there's a 9mm vs. 45 ACP debate. My price range is anywhere from $500-$600.Sorry for my lack of knowledge when it comes to handguns. I've owned and used long guns all my life. I am only recently delving into the world of handguns. So thanks for your patience and advice!I also welcome any other advice or considerations I may be missing! via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2HCo9LA

If you're even a little careful, no one will know
I'm relatively new to concealed carry and like many of us starting out, was constantly concerned about printing/exposing the firearm. Over the weekend I attended my dads funeral and had initially considered not carrying at the service but figured my dad, who was a strong proponent of carrying would've appreciated it. My dress shirt concealed relatively well but what I hadn't anticipated was the amount of physical contact in the form of hugs, reassuring pats/rubs etc. Not a single person who inadvertently came into contact with the gun (many people did) seemed to notice at all. No curious or strange looks, no questions, I mean absolutely nothing. I thought this might help folks new to carrying get over their initial concerns. Relax, if you're even a little careful, chances are, nobody will have a clue. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2r4bsPB
AIWB Holster Modification
This is my first holster I had ever purchased for CCW. I've been carrying for a little over a year now and I had made some modifications. My holster originally came with one wide clip across the slide. I've since ditched it for a slimmer single tuckable clip across the trigger guard mounted on top the wing claw. The holster is molded for the wide clip, and while it prints so much less without the clip and isn't as bulky anymore, I still do not like the bulky protrusion that is molded into it. It also hinders the tuckability of the holster now.My question is it as simple as taking a dremel and removing it? I would only be cutting around the rectangle leaving as much of the holster material as possible just to take away the bulge. I'm assuming this won't be a problem as there are holsters that exist that only cover the trigger guard, but any advice would be appreciated.Pics for reference P.S. in the last photo, thats my homemade wedge made out of velcro, duct tape, and an old cut up shoe insert. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2r9GkgE
Asking about what other people are carrying.
I was at work, going to get a customers vehicle to bring it into the shop. He was walking with me when he mentioned he was going to put his pistol away then changed his mind. And me always interested asked what he was carrying. Well thinking he was just going to tell me, he proceeds to unholster and thankfully clear his Glock 43 before asking if I wanted to see it.I now looking back said sure when I should have asked him to please re holster. So I grabbed it re cleared looked for a second time then handed it back.I went from excited to pretty nervous as soon as he unholstered as I always like to talk with people about what they carry and how they like it.Now I’m a little more hesitant to ask because I really don’t like someone I don’t know or how much training they have pulling there weapon out and showing me.How would y’all have handled it? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2Km5i5i

The Beltman belt review: A rookies perspective.
So I’m not very new to the gun game, or even the handgun game for that matter however I am new to the holster and belt game, as well as most other aspects of CCW. I decided I wanted to AIWB my CZ P-01 (fantastic gun) so I got a vedder lighttuk and ordered a Beltman reinforced horsehide belt. Well the holster came about three weeks before the belt. In that time I messed around with some leather belts that I already owned, some cheap some expensive, but none very stiff except for one old gun belt I had that was too short for me. Honestly those three weeks sucked, carrying the gun was not awfully comfortable, especially while sitting or moving in and out of a vehicle or from sitting to standing. It shifted around a lot, I had to cinch my belt so tightly around my waist in order for me to feel confident the gun wasn’t going to move around on me. I was honestly kind of dreading clipping the holster to my belt the times I wanted to take it with me. I was considering changing the gun to maybe 4:30 or 3:00 but I liked the way it concealed right up front for me so I decided to to tough it out until my Beltman came. Well fine folk, all that has changed 4 days ago when I received my Beltman belt. Firstly I’ll start off by saying David (the owner along with his wife whose name I do not know as all my interactions have been with David) is great, and his customer service is top notch. Knowing the people making the belts are good honest and hard working makes spending more than $100 on a belt a little more palatable for me. Secondly the belt is beautiful, the leather is high quality, the stitching is perfect, it’s easy to tell this is a well made piece; one that should have no issue lasting many many years, again making the price more bearable. Thirdly, holy crap is this how a belt is supposed to feel? Why have I been keeping my pants held up with these limp leather noodles for so long? The thing does its job perfectly. Even without a gun strapped to it I plan on wearing this thing, it’s just so much better than a regular belt. The why is hard for me to really explain, but I’ll give it a shot. The main difference between this belt and any other I’ve use is the stiffness for sure. Because the belt is so stiff, it is able to carry the weight of your pants and gun on top of you hips. This means the belt does not have to be tightened as much to keep the gun in place, as the weight is being carried laterally on both illiac crests (hip bones). This also means there’s no more sagging of the gun up front, as the weight doesn’t even feel to be where the gun is, the weight like I said before is situated on the sides of my body over my hips and spread evenly between, which is fantastic. I would say I’ve you’ve never tried a very stiff leather belt for carrying you should go for it, and if you don’t mind spending the money, I’d highly recommend The Beltman, in my mind this belt was worth every penny spent and I know I’ll be saying that years later. Keep in mind though, this is the one of the only actual purpose built gun belts that I’ve tried (besides a stiff yet very short one), the rest were simply your run of the mill leather belt. That being said, now that I’ve felt how important a gun belt is, and how big of a difference it makes as far as concealing the gun, and being comfortable while doing so, I would never go back to anything that is less than this, and I would never recommend anyone else do so either. The hype surrounding The Beltman is real people, and I’m happy I got onboard this train. CCW holster for a HK P2000
Hi, everyone! After everyone's great suggestions on my last post, I decided to go with a HK P2000. I got to use it yesterday for the first time and absolutely love it.I'm taking the CCW class soon and my county in CA is pretty CCW friendly, so I now need to find a holster. I have been reading the info on the sidebar, but could really use some advice.I like the notion of inside the belt holsters, but they seem like they'd be uncomfortable. I wear a suit for work, so the jacket would cover up most holsters.I was thinking a hybrid for my suit when I'm at work that would then convert to inside the belt if I'm wearing shorts or jeans. Any suggestions would be appreciated. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2r8oM4r
[Home Defense] Best way to keep a long gun for quick access?
Hello, since I’ve been better at home carry my pistol box (ft. Knox) in the bedroom feels a little superfluous. Still, I’d like to keep something on hand and the reasonable choose seems to be a long gun of some sort due to its massive superiority with regards to self defense. In addition with a long gun upstairs I can stage something else in the pistol box elsewhere in the house. So how should I store it?I have two small kids so access control is an absolute, 100% non-negotiable.So what’s something reliable, quick and secure? Ideally it should also be somewhat discrete, but that’s a tertiary concern. Thanks! via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2Fqlfnl

Was denied purchase of a handgun this week.
Hello all, Some quick background: I'm a college student from Colorado who is going to school in Texas. The address on my license is that of my parents. I currently share a room with a buddy of mine whose name is on the lease and I pay him half rent. Anyway, I walked into Academy a couple days ago; I'd done my preparation, brought my school ID, driver's license and a printed copy of ATF rule 80-22 stating that a person who splits time between multiple states is a resident of the state in which they currently reside. Anyway the short version is that he told that they won't sell to me without a Texas ID and then continued to say that I cannot put an address down on the FTR that is not the same as my driver's license (ie. My address here in Waco) or it is a felony. Am I just out of luck till I return to CO? I'd like to purchase from academy as it will save me $60-80 also, I'd like to begin training with the firearm as soon as possible so I can be proficient enough that I feel I am responsible in carrying it. I'd prefer to be capable of protecting my loved ones sooner rather than later. Thanks as always,J Edit: made a typo it's 80-21 not 22. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2Km9XEg

Insight, advice, or considerations for pistol retention
So, I gave the Moronic Monday post a shot, didn't get any bites, so here I am, on my very own thread (so exciting, isn't it!!) seeking help from all you lovely people.the tl;dr:9 Shield, 7+1, spare 8rd. Short, fat (medical issues not cleared for exercise), struggle with printing through uncomfortably loose clothing and finding a comfortable holster. Tried Kydex, leather, and hybrid. Considering a bellyband, want input from users (overweight, average, or underweight, matters not though I would appreciate insight from a bigger guy or gal who uses a band the most) on brand, clip type (magnetic, snap, elastic ETC) and material build (neoprene vs elastic, ETC)The long version:After trying a number of kydex and leather holsters, i'm struggling to find a retention solution that fits my body at the moment (tl;dr: some biomedical issues, i've gained a reasonable amount of weight and can't actually actively participate in exercise (due to some lingering factors of the cause) at the moment to begin working the weight off). 5'8, 210 lbs, my BMI classifies me as overweight, and most of the fat is stored in my gut. Previously a mesomorph body type, but appear to be shifting towards a endomorph as I cut calories further and further and continue to gain weight.Several of the holsters that I have collected in my venture to find one that works, should work just fine once I am cleared to begin exercising again and am able to get back to a normal weight. Until then, though, I have a feeling that a bellyband is going to be my best bet, and who knows, I may end up liking it best!Do any of you larger guys (or gals - I don't judge) have any experience with a belly band, positive or negative? In regards to everyone that uses, has used, or liked a bellyband, did you have a particular brand that you preferred? I can only find one store near me that has any for sale, a mom-and-pop gun shop (my local gun store that I try to run as much business through as I can) and their selection is one model from one brand - Kaylle, so my tri-before-you-buy options are limited.Thoughts on neoprene vs elastic? magnetic retention vs snap? anything else I may be missing?I'm not closed off exclusively to a bellyband, i'm open to any suggestions (and i'll let you know if any have been on my already-purchased list), but I kind of have the one-two punch going on; i'm a relatively short stature guy, with a little too much weight on him (more specifically, most significantly around the gut as well, unfortunately) at the moment via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2HRZfXZ

Issues with my work.
I've recently relocated to start attending barber school in the fall and was lucky enough to find a job working in successful semi-local chair of barber shops at the front desk. Today informed that employees are not allowed to carry after being spotted while moving boxes overhead in a store room. Now I'm debating if I should start looking for a new job. The city has been hit hard by the meth and heroine waves in the Midwest, large numbers of homeless (who are known to be violent) in the area and an employee was literally threatened at gunpoint less than a month ago. Meanwhile the owner and head of maintenance both carry and the shop has pictures and blueprints of guns displayed on the walls. Between the safety concerns and angry of the hypocrisy I think I need to find something new for work. Am I being unreasonable? I think if either the safety or hipocrisy weren't a concern I could look past it, but with both I'm just not sure. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2r0T9dc

Holster question
Hi folks,I've been looking online for a holster that works like this:OWB conceal carry holsterE.g. 3-4 o'clock positionsimilar to a paddle style design (holds gun close to body)made of leather (doesn't have to be, I just think leather would be nice)has a thumb breakhas the open-top area for an RMR (vortex venom)for a Glock 19I've emailed a few companies and the responses are some variation of "no we don't make that." One example is De Santis which almost looks like it would work but I can kind of tell there is not enough room for the RMR. Their response said it wouldn't. Same type of answer from Mitch Rosen. I might try El Paso Saddlery next because two of their holsters do look like they would work: Strong Side Select or Dual Duty Three Slot.Does anyone know of a holster like I'm going for?Is there any company that might be able to add a thumb break to a holster that already works with an RMR? I guess it doesn't need to be leather but that would be nicer I think. Thanks in advance.PS - here is a pic, not my actual pistol but I have the same grip tape and RMR so it looks just like this.https://ift.tt/2HAxWOk via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2r3GXJE
