Teetotal-ling into the New Year. What's on your hip tonight?

http://bit.ly/2QctZms via /r/CCW http://bit.ly/2Vl9p74

Walked away from a fight, feel bad.

I got in an altercation with a guy on a night out. I was walking down the street with my friends and I wished some random guy a happy New year's, thinking I was spreading some holiday spirit. It's something I usually do, people usually reply in kind. Won't do it anymore though.

He smiled, saying thanks and approached me. Then pushed me unexpectedly and I fell to the ground, with him screaming abuse and that he'd lost his phone and credit card. He hit me in the face, so I sweeped him before he could land a second and got back to my feet. Then I held my friend back who was about to jump in for me as the guy was getting up. (There were four of us, he was alone).

I apologised to the guy and told him we were leaving, he pushed me a few more times as I was doing so but he didn't really move me, now that I was aware of what was happening.

I really wasn't looking for a fight, I'd never been in a street fight. I honestly wasn't trying to mock him or push his buttons in any way.

I feel bad for what happened, I'm disappointed I fell to the ground. I feel like I lost somehow and my pride hurts. The guy was heavily intoxicated. A part of me wants some type of street justice, though I know that this all could've ended far worse in a health and legal sense, and I'm thankful that I spent the night at home, and not in a hospital or cell.

I wish it hadn't happened, and now I'm feeling guilt and anger. Thoughts?

Are shot timers good to have?

I saw a deal on a Pact 3 shot timer on /r/gundeals and was wondering if it's a good purchase for a newbie to have? Are shot timers useful for someone who plans on training in mostly indoor ranges and as a newbie, how can I train with them? Or should I put off the purchase until I get more training and experience? via /r/CCW http://bit.ly/2LJ0vfb

Why I carry.

I originally started carrying because I work in an area of town that can be sketchy at best.Well my wonderful wife and I are not in the best position and there is the distinct possibility that we might divorce. She thinks I’m mean to her and she’s verbally abusive to me so it is whatever. So to the story we had to drive a few hours to visit with some of her family that has not yet me met our baby girl. On the ride home in the midst of all her yelling at me she said she was going to tell her uncle how I’ve mistreated her but the only reason she didn’t is because she didn’t want her daughter see her dad get his ass beat. I might like her uncle but I will defend myself if I have to. So the moral of the story. Be prepared for anything and be careful out there. via /r/CCW http://bit.ly/2TqfgGL

Carrying Cross Country

Howdy all, recent Texas LTC holder here.In about 5 days, I will be traveling cross country with my family. I will be driving out and flying back (to make it back in time for school - also, my family will be returning later in January, so leaving my EDC with them is straight up not an option) I don't intend on carrying during vacation (as most of the places I will be will prohibit carrying anyways)Question for you all; carry or no? We will only be going through states with reciprocity, and going out is not an issue, my concern is flying back. I have the TSA lockbox and called the airport I will be flying out of (small airport, MAYBE 10 gates) but I am just wondering if anyone has any advice on whether or not I should even bother. Thanks! via /r/CCW http://bit.ly/2R1KwPz

Advice on type of self defense training for someone living alone?

Can anyone recommend a type of urban survival training or course that goes beyond combat training? Something that includes improving one's situational awareness, for instance? Or even provides some teaching in home security? I'm female and not that strong, so I would like some training on what to do and how to act to avoid a home invasion or physical confrontation. Thanks for any help.

New to carrying- G23 w CrossBreed Super Tuck

9 year USMC vet. I have been shooting for years and am very comfortable with firearms.But.. I have not carried before. I am register to take my class in two weeks in the great state of IL (read that as you wish...)Anyhow... I have been carrying my G23 around the house with jeans and a CrossBreed Super Tuck. I have even wore the holster by it self to the store and it feels fairly comfortable.A few questions / looking for tips.1) it doesn’t seem too big, but who carries a G23 or similar in hot weather?2) the holster is comfortable and easy to take off, but kinda a pain to put on. I’ve tried it in about 4:00-4:30. This seems like it would be a pain to just run to the store real quick.3) tips for carrying a G23 in “bumming” (ie warm up pants / shorts) clothes or golf shorts (don’t judge me... I’m not carrying while golfing, but I wear golf shorts a lot because they’re comfortable... the cooler ones, not the super short khaki old man ones...)Thanks!!! via /r/CCW http://bit.ly/2StqXMJ

How did your gear evolve through 2018?

As 2018 is coming to a close I got curious seeing as how my gear evolved a little bit.I started carrying this summer with my M&P Shield 2.0 9mm in a Cross Breed MiniTuck IWB holster. My initial carry position was around 4:00 but I switched to appendix 1-2:00 a couple months ago and haven’t gone back. After my first month of carry I put some Talon grip tape on the handle since the 2.0 OEM grip texture was like sandpaper on my skin. I also just got some Tritium night sights that are being installed as we speak.I know its not a crazy amount of evolution but it comes from trial and error and seeing what works best for my daily life. Future additions are a Black Arch Protos single clip appendix holster that I’m going to order as a birthday present to myself sometime in February. I also want to get a holster to carry my full size Magnum Research 1911 sometime soon.Happy New year, stay safe! via /r/CCW http://bit.ly/2EYvsux

Carry at work

Hey all, I've got my options for my first concealed carry gun narrowed down to the p365 and p938. Love em both but am leaning heavily towards the 365. I, as I'm sure some of you do, have a job where I could potentially get fired for carrying at work. This is my career but I am willing to risk it as sometimes I feel that's when I may need it at most from getting out late at night, by myself, in a not great part of town. What advice do you all have? What kind of holsters do you use, concealment tips, what not to do or maybe just general advice for someone who has never carried before?EDIT: I am the highest ranking person in this building and am close with my higher up who does carry, but it stays in her car. Not sure if that matters. via /r/CCW http://bit.ly/2EYSH8G

Any Leather Light-Bearing Holsters Around For The VP9?

A bit of a niche, I guess. I know Galco and Desantis have a light bearing holster, but their selection of guns to choose from is pretty slim.I could always have a custom one made, but was wondering if there were any other options before I threw down a few hundred dollars. via /r/CCW http://bit.ly/2ViFRaa

Something I was having 'shower thoughts' on: How much of a culture shock would it be for an officer from an anti gun region where carrying is virtually banned to a pro gun state where he/she first encounters a legal carrier?

I ask bc I've read forums of NYPD officers who lateral to Florida, Texas, Arizona, Vegas or a closer pro gun state like Pennsylvania or Ohio. I can imagine how shocking it'd be to see an open carrying citizen or someone who hands you their permit calmly during a traffic stop. I wonder if the FTO will warn them in advance that this activity that's 10000% illegal in New Jersey or NYC or Maryland is perfectly normal here. via /r/CCW http://bit.ly/2TjJLOd

Self defense classes

For back story I’m a 5’ 2 woman 125lbs. I workout regularly but am not aware of any self defense.

My job over the years as a bartender has gotten more and more violent. With at one point being pulled across the bar top by a man who grabbed my arm. Last week I was jumped by three women when leaving and just really didn’t stand a chance. Though there’s been many recent assaults and murders in the area I’m in the police force just doesn’t stack up to any help.

Would maybe learning self defense courses such as BJJ maybe help me defend myself better? I’ve always been nervous about classes geared towards woman just due to things I’ve heard from other women who took them- but at this point I’m curious.

What makes a good gun belt good?

I'm looking into ccw'ing for the first time with a Glock 19 (Gen 5) + a light. I'm looking for a gun belt that would help me carry AIWB daily but also OWB for training. I know there are hundreds of threads out there on gun belt recommendations but not many have information on what makes a good gun belt good?Is it the material (leather/nylon/etc) holding up the stiffness or the buckle material? Or are all gun belts made out of the same internal stiffener and I should just go with what looks good for my taste? Or do certain gun belts work best with certain holsters/carry methods? via /r/CCW http://bit.ly/2Vi9DMe

CCW Advice for New Years Eve

I've had my carry license about four months now and am still getting comfortable with it. I want to find out from you experienced carriers what you do for parties like on NYE? I will be at a house party probably in close quarters, lots of people shoulder to shoulder, lots of hugging and close contact as is the nature of a NYE party.Do you carry to big parties? What type of carry do you find is best for this sort of event? I want to have my weapon, but I don't want it to be discovered by accident and cause a scene. I'm a fairly big guy and was thinking maybe a shoulder carry would be easier to hide, but looking for advice.Thank you! via /r/CCW http://bit.ly/2CHOdRL

Any opinions of Fort Scott Munitions?

So they’re the folks with the “our ammo doesn’t expand, it tumbles” approach. And yeah, I know, knee-jerk response is to dismiss it as a gimmick. But, once in a blue moon, something new comes out and it has merit. Also see: shootingthebull410’s review of the Polycase Inceptor ARX in .380 and 9mm.So I’d guess the benefit here - if there is one - is that the bullet cannot be impeded by essentially any barrier or clothing because it creates a similar or better wound channel as a traditional hollow point without the possibility of running into the traditional JHP Achilles heel(s). Sounds neat. Assuming it tumbles as designed within the target and assuming the tumbling creates a similar or better wound channel, we have a winner. Right?A cursory YouTube gel test search shows promising results, presumably by non-biased third parties. Here’s one comparative test: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GgG4aKhUl14Anyone have thoughts? I’m currently happy with my tried and true Hornady Critical Defense 115gr, but it’s always fun to try new things if there’s merit to it. via /r/CCW http://bit.ly/2CFIVWN

Backup magazines Glock 26

I bought my first handgun (glock 26) almost a year ago. I thought I made a mistake and kept thinking I should’ve gotten a 19 but I know I made the right choice for my situation.Anyways, I wanted to hear what more experienced ccwers carried as backups. Right now I dont carry a backup but I was thinking about getting either a 19 or 17 mag with a pachmayr mag sleeve.Anyone have any experience with the pachmayr? Also I’d definitely get OEM mags. Do you trust using the larger mag in the smaller gun for carry? Thanks via /r/CCW http://bit.ly/2EW2ZG0

Has anybody here used their gun in self defense and if so how much of a pain was it to get it back from evidence/did the police confiscate it?

I think the title sums it up nicely. I saw somebody bring this up as a (downvoted) comment on why he didn't carry a nice gun and I just thought I'd ask if anybody has experience with it. It probably won't effect what I carry and it definitely won't effect my decision on drawing, but I was still curious if anybody had experience with it. via /r/CCW http://bit.ly/2ET6LQa

Held up in a parking lot, could I have used a weapon?

Not sure if this belongs here, but here’s the situation. I am a young female who just moved to a city. Yesterday, as I was unloading groceries into my vehicle, a large man came up behind me and blocked me between the cart and my car, and demanded my purse. He threatened to kill me several times, and held something to my back from under his sweatshirt, but I’m not sure that it was an actual weapon. I don’t carry a purse, and repeatedly told him I don’t carry cash, only a credit card. Eventually, after realizing he wasn’t going to get anything from me, he walked away.Since moving here, I’ve been thinking about getting a handgun (I’ll obviously get some training etc. before carrying it). Had I had one, would I have been justified in using it in this situation, since I didn’t actually see him carrying a weapon? Also any suggestions on type to get? via /r/CCW http://bit.ly/2s0Ghof

Torn between what to buy

So I'm looking at getting a carry gun for when I get my ccw. I'm looking at the glock 19 or vp9sk. I'm torn between the two. I've shot the g19 gen 5, and I'd definitely get a gen 4 over a gen 5 because the cut out kills my pinky. It was a rental gun at a range and it jammed twice within 100 rounds (might just not have been cleaned enough). I haven't shot the vp9sk yet but it feels good in my hands. Are there any glaring issues I should know about either? The only thing that concerned me was the fact that the glock jammed twice. via /r/CCW http://bit.ly/2EVqlfC

I know some states like Florida don't reciprocate out-of-state concealed carry permits (like if I had an AR driver's license and a TX concealed carry permit), so I was wondering if it would be okay to get my permit in Arkansas before I move. P365 first range trip

Picked up a SIG 365 a couple weeks back from Bass Pro and just took her to her first range day.Manufacturing date: November 18Put 300 rounds of S&B FMJ through, with zero issues so far. Was going to do more but the range is only for 1 hour, then you have to pay for another hour so I said screw it and concluded early. Also tried various hollowpoints and same story. Hopefully the good shooting continues. I understand that 300 rounds does nothing to prove the reliability of any firearm, but it’s a start. Some notes:Little difficult to get a solid grip on the gun due to its size, I was having difficulty with follow up shots because it would shift my support hand after each round, specifically my thumb since there is very little surface area to rest it on below the slideRecoil was not bad for how small it is, but I still shoot my 320c a little better. That said, the 365 points naturally and feels great in my handJust for absolute peace of mind while carrying, I may swap out the striker for the aftermarket steel one later on, but I’d like to test the original first. I have only noticed minor primer drag so far, stopping well before gouging into the brass casingThe mags are VERY hard to load initially, but hopefully it gets easier as I break them in furtherStill waiting in my Tier 1 Concealed Axis Slim so I intend to grab some more bulk ammo and continue testing. I have a Ruger SR22 pistol that I love, but I've noticed when I manually charge the hammer it feels like there is a spring rubbing against itself or something else. I'm not sure if it's always done that, I just noticed it recently. I tried looking online to find people who had a similar issue, but Google failed me. CCW in Dressing Room?

I'm about to get fitted for a suit for a wedding and this thought came across my mind. How do you or should you carry in this instance? If this was a normal trying on a pair of jeans in a room by myself then the obvious answer would be to abide the firearm safety rules and go about your business. But in this case I will have to leave the dressing room to have the tailor measure everything. In my mind my choices are:Get the suit on and strap up, running the risk of having the tailor incidentally patting me down, discovering my firearm, and possibly making a scene of some sort.Leave the firearm in the dressing room. I'm also going to have my kid with me today so this is an obvious and blatant NO.Leave it locked in the car and just go in without it.In all honesty I'm probably just going to leave it in the car today, but I still wanted to know others' thoughts on this. via /r/CCW http://bit.ly/2EQDypf
