Up until today my mom had never touched a firearm. She mentioned in passing a while back that while she was married to my dad that he had never included her in his interest in hunting and that he'd never taken her to fire a gun. We both had the day off from work today so I took her to the range. The range I frequent is maintained by the county using trustees and honestly is just an empty lot in the middle of nowhere and is completely unsupervised. It was a beautiful day and we had the place to ourselves. We took our time and I walked her through the 4 rules, parts of the handgun, loading magazines, proper stance, grip and site picture. After about 30 rounds she said that she was done shooting. She enjoyed shooting but was a little overwhelmed with the idea that a handgun, in the context of CCW, is a defensive weapon and that the targets we were shooting at basically represent real live people. She completely understands and approves of me carrying, it just isn't something that she would personally feel comfortable doing. It was a great day and a great bonding experience for us. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/1YLKm7Z
