Do you try and scare a wild animal off, or shoot to kill immediately?

So, basically as the title says, I'm curious what you all think on the subject of animals. Most conversation on here discusses CCW where humans are the most dangerous creature around.As summer is coming again, I'll be spending more time and generally carry a slighter larger gun in the outdoors. But if I truly came across a wild animal that could fuck my shit up, and seem particularly inclined to do so, do you unload immediately or try to scare it off?My inclination would be to unload everything I have. Generally I would have 30+ rounds of .40 S&W, but lots of factors play into running into animals, and that might not be enough against a large enough one.
