Declaring firearm at United check-in Denver

On Wednesday at 6:30pm local time I went to United check-in desk at DEN. After getting my baggage ticket and boarding pass at the kiosk I approached the agent, who gave me the "what do you want?" look."I need to declare a firearm", I said. She literally jumped backwards! After fluttering around a bit she called for help (I don't think she knew what to do). A supervisor came over and got it sorted on the computer and gave me the card to sign and put in my luggage. Then, SHE HAS SOMEONE ESCORT ME TO THE TSA OFFICE. Normally (and I have done this a few times now, including on the outbound flight into DEN a few days earlier) they just ask me to wait in the area for around 10 minutes in case TSA had any issues. On this occasion, they carried my bag and had me follow them clear across the terminal to the TSA X-Ray room and had me wait outside while they discussed the situation in hushed tones before sending my bag through the machine.Has anyone else had this happen? I even got a TSA hologram on my luggage tag which I've never seen before. Guessing that means it's been X-Rayed? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/1MJEKKz
