I got jumped by 3 guys

Last night, I was out on my evening walk smoking a joint (I live with my parents and cant smoke inside). One guy comes to me and asks me for a lighter. While I look for the lighter, he starts asking me if I live around here... I get kinda paranoid and loose confidence whem I’m high, so my answer wasnt confident. As soon as he heard that, he told me to empty my pockets.

I refused and all three started jumping me. One guy was trying to put his hand in my pocket, so I had to struggle with one hand securing my phone in my pocket, while two other dudes were hitting my head (the back of my head as well) and ribs.

Somehow, i got out of that situation and ended up on the other side of the street (its a small street), phone in my hand, with two of the guys yelling at me to hand over my phone. I realized that I had lost my keys on the ground during the fight, and one of the guys took them. I told them that if they gave back my keys, I will give them the phone. Now the third guy comes back to with a long wood thing that are used to make steps and stuff (he found it on the ground) and starts smashing me with it while the other two get the phone out of my hands.

Eventually, two other people come, so the three start running away and drop the wood thing. I couldnt get home without my keys so I decided to follow them, to try to talk them in giving back my keys. Two blocks away, when they saw I was still following they threw my phone and keys as hard as they could towards me (its a shitty iphone 6).

Safe to say this little event ruined my high.

Anyway, I didnt throw one punch, because I thought it would make it worse. All three guys were smaller than me, but two of them were still pretty tall. Should I have thrown punches ? These guys live in my neighborhood, so the situation might come again. What should I do next time it happens??

Ive never been in a fight and would appreciate any advice.

Thanks
