Flinching from sound of gunshot

If it’s been a while since I’ve been to an indoor range, I’ll flinch every time a shot goes off for the first minute or two, even with hearing protection. Then I get accustomed to it and it just becomes background noise. This got me thinking, since we use hearing protection all the time when we go to the range, wouldn’t that open us up to the possibility of not expecting how loud our guns actually are and possibly flinching while shooting during a self defense scenario with no hearing protection? How do police and military train for this? This is part of the reason I don’t plan on using any rifle, shotgun, or any loud handguns for home defense. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3bVYUOS
