Sharing a Family Member's Story

So I recently found out this happened to a family member of mine when visiting with them. They were very embarrassed about the story, so I will alter certain details to further protect their identity. If you find the news story with the correct details, please respect don't share it here:After his kids and wife go off to school/work, my family member, we'll call Paul, gets in his car and starts heading down the road. Paul realized he forgot a bag at home, he is only a few minutes down the road, so he turns around to go get it. Paul can't carry at work so his gun is in his glove box already. He gets to his house and goes in. When he gets into the kitchen he is welcomed by a man with a gun. The man is saying things like 'you aren't supposed to be home' and other details of Paul's family and life. The man holds him at gun point for a while then takes Paul to his safe and tells him to open it. Paul thinks if he opens the safe, the bad guy no longer needs him. Paul acts like the safe regularly has issues opening and puts the wrong combo in over and over. Eventually the bad guy gives up on the safe. Bad guy isn't giving Paul a good chance to fight back. (Paul is a large, strong, accomplished fighter). Bad guy tells Paul to get in a closet, and get on his knees. Paul say no. He says 'you are not going to shoot me somewhere my kids will find me, no, no way.' Paul realizes his time on this world is limited if he doesn't do something.Paul begins to talk to the bad guy, try to get bad guy to see Paul as a person, not a opportunity. Eventually he brings Paul to the shed in the back. He tells Paul to get in, Paul has limited options so he does it. Bad guy locked Paul in and leaves in Paul's car. Paul breaks out of the shed, and starts running down the road to both find a neighbor and try to see direction of travel of the bad guy. Turns out bad guy had been living in Paul's boat in his driveway for a while learning the pattern of life of his family. Police did find and arrest bad guy. He is serving time in jail to this day.Moral of the story is stay armed whenever possible and harden your home. I hope this helps, I hope there are lessons here. Paul made a few mistakes (leaving gun, and as it turns out not licking his door), but he came out alive, and that is the overall goal. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/35rirng
