My dad was in a DGU situation that saved my life 10 years ago today

For a little background, I’m 23. I was 13 when this happened. My dad just got off his 3rd deployment to Afghanistan 2 days prior. And it was a beautiful Saturday. We went to Chick-fil-A (we both love it), had a lot of food and was going home. Our city has a drug problem. We have 2 main people doing it. Both competitors. My dad drives (still does) a beautiful 1998 Camaro. Pitch black with slightly tinted windows. This is important.A car pulls up beside us. Some sort of brown car i don’t even remember the name off the top of my head. A man in his 30s gets out and fires twice into the car. Hitting the window once and me in the shoulder. My dad immediately pulls out his own pistol and shoots all 7 shots. 6 strike the man, killing him instantly. His training went into action. He tore part of his shirt with his knife and wrapped it around my shoulder while calling 911. Police showed up took his gun into custody and himself while I was taken to the hospital. He’s let out a few hours later when the cops reviewed the footage from a Home Depot this happened in front of. No charges were filed. I had to stay in the hospital a week though because when it hit my shoulder it went into the bone and shattered and doctors were worried about metal poisoning. If he didn’t have that pistol I would be dead today. We know why the man shot us. We were new to the city and did not know what happened. His rival drives a similar vehicle to my dads. And because of some beef he said he would shoot the rival when he saw him. It was pretty cool having a scar when I started high school. I made up all kinds of stories of how I got it.I would have posted this on my normal account but it had too much identifying information, via /r/CCW http://bit.ly/2K2qTTm
