Booted From Church

I CC nearly everywhere I go when I leave the house, which hasn't caused any issues in the two or so years I have been doing it....until this morning.I was visiting my parents' church as I have done 5-6 times over that time and today, after offering my sister a jacket my father suddenly ended the conversation and walked away looking pissed. I started walking towards a line for potluck when my sister walked up to me and warned me that indeed my father was pissed and would likely talk to me about the gun. I notified her that is fine and that if he wishes to talk to me he can easily find me.Fast forward nearly ten minutes and sure enough, as I am grabbing food and about half way through the line he simply says. "This church's policy is no firearms allowed so you need to go lock it in your car." I simply replied with, "that is fine, but in the middle of the food line is not the place to talk about it, let me set down my food."Fast forward another ten minutes or so and he makes it through the line, sits down a couple seats down from me and begins eating. I had finished my food so I turned to him and asked if he would like to step out and have a conversation about it, to which he replied only with, "I have nothing more to say and I should call the cops." I then turned to the rest of the table, two members of whom were pastors and excused myself, hopped on my motorcycle, and returned home.Advice? Suggestions on how I could have handled this differently? I love my dad but ee have many differences religiously and politically.
