Newbie here, turn 21 soon. Would like to carry AIWB. Is carrying with a sidecar more difficult than without?

Hi all, I'm turning 21 soon and hoping to start carrying after completing my CCW course. I've done research and decided on a CZ P-07 and I'd like to carry AIWB.I didn't know sidecar were even a thing until recently, but now that I've found them I feel like I'd like to have one.In terms of concealment, will it be harder to carry with a sidecar than without? I'm 5'8", 150lbs and am liking the offerings from JM custom Kydex. Thanks in advance. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2DRLh2O

Any drills to practice double feed malfunction?

As the title says i'm looking for a drill or two that will help me practice fixing double feed issues. Optimally I would be able to set up the drill so that I do not know when the double feed will actually happen. Anybody have experience with a drill like that? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2npXV2O

Stealth Gear Ventcore Scorpion?

Hey y'all,I'm looking at buying for first holster with the intentions of carrying soon after I get my permit. I figured I might as well go high quality for my first holster. And I had a question about a couple of them.I am looking at the Ventcore Scorpion and the Ventcore IWB Mini. I have tried to search for reviews of the Scorpion online but haven't really found that many reviews. So my question to anyone that has it. How do you like it? Has it met your expectations? Good retention? Comfortable? Any complaints? Thanks y'all! via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2Er2Pnt

Help me find a holster for my father

My father has been carrying a full size Berreta 92fs 9mm for 20+ years. He used to carry it in a fanny pack, but it broke recently and now he just sticks it in his pants. I tried buying him both an IWB and OWB and he just doesn't like them, probably because he has adjusted to the comfort of just sticking the think anywhere.Any recommendations on how I can stop him from Mexican carrying? Something minimalist. I think he currently puts it somewhere near AIWB (around 12:30/1), but much lower than most people because there is nothing supporting it. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2EsINJg

What do you guys think about carrying a pistol with no holster?

First off, this question isn't for me. I prefer carry in a hard kydex holster that completely covers the trigger guard, so don't hop on the downvote train yet.I have a buddy who I have introduced to conceal and carry and he plans to carry something like a Glock 43 or M&P Shield with a "clip holster" - http://ift.tt/2DN9UOd few questions I asked to clarify his intended setup:"Are you going to have a trigger guard?"No."Are you going to carry +1 in the chamber?"Yes."Do you intend to buy a pistol with a manual safety at least?"Of course, why wouldn't I?The point I tried to make to him is that I feel it is still an unsafe setup, although it is better he still wants to run his setup with a safety. Personally, I'd rather run a setup with a striker-fired pistol, hard kydex holster completely covering the trigger, and no manual safety. He sees this as completely negligent because "a gun with out a safety is unsafe." I believe safety comes from the user, not the tool. I think his setup is dangerous because his belt could accidentally disengage his safety and he may shoot off his baby dick. I'm trying to convince him to at least get a trigger guard. What are your thoughts r/ccw? I'm hoping I may be able to show him this post to convince him. Maybe we both may learn a thing or too. Thanks! via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2EqtctK

Arrested but never convicted in Florida, can I be rejected for CCW?

About two years ago in a younger, much more foolish state of mind I managed to get arrested for reckless driving, speeding and driving without an active license all at once.Come court time and all of my charges were dropped within the first minute, great! But tomorrow I plan on applying at my tax office and I'm wondering if even though I was never convicted, if I can be rejected for said arrest.Apologies if this is the wrong place to ask, can't seem to find a more suitable place. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2npltF1

Looking for videos to dry fire practice with.

I've got a projector, and sometimes I dry fire practice while watching TV shows. Not bad, but sometimes whole episodes or more will go by without my "trigger event" happening. My Google abilities have failed me in trying to find videos specifically for this kind of thing. I'm looking for any recommendations or just a push in the right direction, like the correct phrasing to put into Google. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2nnAQxH

Update: The bad day has ended

Or: No free gun for meOriginal PostGood news: Talked to the police because Washington state does have a finders keepers law and firearms are not excluded.Bad news: The owner has already been found and claimed it.To answer a few inquiries and address a few comments:There was always a no-guns policy at my job. I had merely missed it the last time I looked at the employee handbook. The office is taking it better than I thought with only a little alarmism.Though they couldn't tell me the owner's name, he was pretty much what I thought from what I gathered from the police: A CPL holder who made a big mistake and had no ill intent. That's why I handled it - everything about the totality of the situation screamed "not a crime gun, just a mistake" and I felt by handling it I could minimize the risk of someone untrained handling a loaded gun.I wasn't trying to be a hero; I was trying to keep my job. Possession of a firearm on company property is grounds for disciplinary action and I didn't want to conceal it from anyone since the group here is so open.I don't know everyone in the office and I don't know who is gun-friendly so I didn't feel I could figure out the owner on my own without concealing anything from interested parties.I turned it in to lost and found because I assumed it belonged to someone in the company and we could skip the police step. That turned out to not be the case.I didn't get to see the shame face of the owner. That is my great regret. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2GvHtpI

EILI5: Why take your gun off when going to the bathroom?

I see this a lot. I've heard it at gun stores, "Every few weeks we find a pistol in the public restrooms." There was a news story about a bus driver leaving a gun in a college bathroom. And now the thread in this sub about the lost and found gun.So, why do people take their gun off when going to the bathroom? I leave mine on my belt. Racking the slide with one hand?

I understand that shooting the gun one handed and manipulating the gun one handed is a very important thing to practice for numerous reasons. I have seen all of the techniques for racking the slide and reloading. Welp, I actually have one hand and have a question for you guys. Yesterday I was doing a ‘check slide’ and thought to myself there has to be a safer more consistent way to do this. It all boils down to this. Can I use an optic like a red dot sight to rack the slide? For example I have a nub, about two inches below the elbow and plenty of strength to rack the slide. If fact I was able to successfully rack the slide just using the iron sights on my nub, but it hurt and is not practical for me. Is there any risk or concerns to continuously using an optic to rack the slide? I believe that I would be able to position the optic behind my nub and rack the slide that way faster and safer. Thanks via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2E1cB28

How effective are Soccer Kicks in streetfighting (in particular against a standing opponent)? Especially compared to ¨martial arts¨ style kicks like roundhouses?

One of the biggest arguments you ever see in the ¨Streetfighting vs Traditional Martial Arts VS RBSD VS MMA/Sports fighting¨ is the effectiveness of the ¨soccer kick¨.

On the martial arts side, they always see it as lacking technique and thus one representing thugs and untrained fighters. They dont see it as being useful at all and say your better off sending a kick of such power such as roundhouse. The MMA side also looks down on it, viewing it as a cowardly tactic and even assuming rules allow it, I cannot tell you how many MMA pros and fans state that all you have to do to counter it is grab the feet (because they believe it will be so exposed due to its sloppy nature). Even if if youŕe being kicked while on the ground, MMA supporters state simply grab the leg while its hitting you with your arm or some leg pin and the guy is down for submission. The RBSD (as typical) say KICKS period are terrible technique and include this as one of the techniques you shouldn't do but also say its far more practical than most martial art kicks and one of the few kicks you will ever see them showing as an effective technique along with side kicks. They even encourage it as an endder in a fight when your opponent is down. The street fighting crowd however LOVE this technique to the point its one of the MOST used kicks by brawlers and street fights almost always end with the winner(s) kicking the opponent on the ground like a soccer ball.

More important, even cultures where kicking is traditionally frowned on such as England, even thugs who see kicking as unmanly make an exception for soccer kicks. I cannot tell you how many football riots I seen where English hooligans kick on people who are getting up from the ground. Its only the ¨gentlemen¨ and ¨upperclass¨ folks who saw even the simplistic soccer kick as a forbidden technique and I can point to you so many boxing manuals and publications made in the 1800s of upperclass boxing fans pointing out to the ¨English peasants¨ using soccer kicks as proof of how they lack refinement and class and why the aristocracy is so superior.

Even here in America, before the martial arts craze came in the 60s soccer kicks was probably the only technique your average untrained Joe (who lacked real fighting experience) could think of doing along with stomping as far as ¨leg techniques¨ go in street fighting. Its a telling thing when angry white collar weakers and blue collar workers in the less physically demanding jobs were throwing soccer kicks (and stomps) on policemen during riots and on black people during lynchings. And this was when SOCCER was practically unknown in American society outside of European immigrants!

One thing I will note though is that real fighters with experience I noted-even those with lots of experience and training in MMA and traditional martial arts- will often throw soccer kicks, often as a first resort when they decide to use their legs against a standing opponent, and as one of the primary techniques on a downed opponent they are trying to finish. Just watch so many prison fights to see what I mean.

Even in mainland Asia, when fighting gets too cramped to throw traditional martial arts techniques or when the circumstances prevent proper stance and leverage (such as say a staircase), Asians streetfighters and trained martial artists can be seen throwing soccer kicks in footages in brawls against STANDING combat-ready opponents (even though their specific styles don't teach soccer kicks and other dirty techniques).

So I am curious of how effective soccer kicks are?

Also I have to ask why do so many Western martial arts schools and practitioners look down on it? I understand most Asian styles and their texts don't show anything about how to do soccer kicks, not even mention it at all, but for Christ sake trained Asian martial artists and experienced street fighters are shown doing it in LIVE FOOTAGE!

Also what makes this technique so natural along with the stomp that even cultures that tend to forbid kicking (such as 19th century America and Britain) give leeway to soccer kicks and even untrained people who are unfit and never been to a single brawl in their lives do it out of instinct on stomping opponents and even in the middle of their first fight?

Keep in mind by soccer kick, I don't mean kicking on a downed opponent but the typical way soccer players kick the ball in their sport. Yes as a footballer myself, I know technically soccer has a lot of variation on how to "kick a soccer ball" however I am referring to the standard manner that soccer players kick to shoot a ball straight forward. And I am specifically asking against a standing opponent, not someone trying to get up from the ground.

My CCDW application got denied, now what?

My Kentucky CCDW application was denied due to "involuntary hospitalization" . The "involuntary hospitalization" occured a year and a half ago when I found my self in a bit of legal trouble (the only legal trouble I've ever had) and drunkenly smarted off to a cop about being suicidal. This resulted in a 72 hour baker act where I was sent to a mental facility but released upon being found to be competent. P365 ran great today (so did the G19)

Alright, I promise last one of these. I'm sure a few folks are saying, "enough with the damn P365 already!"In case you missed them, here's my first range notes where I describe multiple FTFs with the new gun: http://ift.tt/2rO2IzH that outing I immediately field stripped and cleaned, removing as much trace of the factory grease as possible. I left a generous coating of CLP in all the important places (inside mag included). Today (a couple days later) I hit the range again. I shot 110 rounds and not one FTF. I did discover that if I let my thumbs ride too high they can interfere with the slide lock lever or the slide itself and prevent the slide from locking out of battery at the end of a mag. But consciously keeping my thumbs down resolved this issue.Shout out to the Glock fans that have been tracking my adventures. My buddy showed up with a never fired, fresh in the box G19. We got 40-50 rounds through it no problem. So, ok, reasonable to expect a gun to run reliably out of the box. But it also did not have the ridiculous amount of white grease that my P365 had from the factory.Given the experience the journalists had at the press event in Exeter and now my own experience with the factory lube, I'd say this gun is sensitive to the amount and viscosity of lube used on it. They taught me to use CLP on my P320 at Sig Academy, so that is all my P365 will be seeing going forward.Last note, shot my BG380 today as well. I could not hit the broad side of a barn with the damn thing today and my hand was sore after a couple dozen rounds. Not dissing this reliable, affordable little gun, but it did highlight how great a fit the P365 is for me. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2GuEgH4

G43 Holster advice

Hello all,A friend suggested r/ccw for holster advice. I did read the side bar holster suggestions, but to be honest, I have a bunch of those holsters already. A little background. I’m a LEO, but still take concealment very seriously when off duty.I find awib the best cc method for me and my body type. Issues I have, most of the holsters I own for the 43 just have so much extra kydex, it really seems a bit too much. I’m currently using a Harry’s Holster, which is great, but again, for such a small frame gun, the holster to gun ratio is off. Same with Trex Arms, and a few other random brands. the claw with a 43 is just adding extra material that I don’t need to conceal it. Not hating on the claw, I find it works wonders for my 17 awib, but that’s not preferred off duty carry.I really just want a minimalist style holster with no bells or whistles. Slim profile with just enough kydex to cover the gun, and trigger guard. Obviously sturdy enough not to cause a ND.Maybe this holster sounds too good to be true, as I’ve yet to find one. Maybe someone here has one through the same experiences. Thanks for your time, and glad to see such a big community of private citizens practicing they’re rights. I can’t speak for all LEOs, but from my experience, the responsible armed citizen makes my job much easier.Stay frosty fellow CCWers. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2DNiekW

What permits you can obtain to carry in the most states (re-issue)

A correction and follow-up to this post. I've studied reciprocity quite a bit since then, and the problem is much simpler than I originally thought. Again, the permit holder is assumed to be 21 or older.Resident permits from Michigan and North Dakota are recognized in every state that recognizes out of state permits. For those who do not live in one of those states, North Dakota issues non-resident permits. A North Dakota non-resident permit is recognized by every state except:The ten states that do not recognize out-of-state permits: California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, and Rhode Island; andThe four states that do not recognize non-resident permits: Colorado, Florida, Michigan, and South Carolina.Once you have a North Dakota non-resident permit, it is merely a matter of which of those last four states recognize your home state's permit. Michigan recognizes all resident permits; it is included in the lists below for the sake of clarity and completeness.Holders of resident permits from these states can carry in Colorado, Florida, Michigan and South Carolina: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming.Colorado, Florida, and Michigan, but not South Carolina: Alabama, Colorado, Delaware, Indiana, Iowa, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, and Utah.Florida, Michigan, and South Carolina, but not Colorado: South Carolina.Colorado and Michigan, but not Florida or South Carolina: Wisconsin.Florida and Michigan, but not Colorado or South Carolina: Maine and Nevada.Michigan, but not Florida, Colorado, or South Carolina: the ten non-reciprocating states listed above, Minnesota, and Washington.None of these states: Vermont, as the state does not issue carry permits. To achieve maximum reciprocity, we shall delve into further non-resident permits from the fourteen states that do not honour the magic ND non-resident permit.Connecticut, Florida, and Rhode Island issue non-resident permits to any US citizen or permanent resident. (Massachusetts does also, but requires that non-residents demonstrate a tangible threat to their life, or else the permit will be restricted to hunting and target shooting.) Oregon issues non-resident permits to residents of the states that border it (California, Idaho, Nevada, and Washington) and Illinois issues non-resident permits to residents of Arkansas, Mississippi, Texas, and Virginia. (Reference, under the heading 'How can I find out if my state's laws are considered "substantially similar?"')Thus, the maximal states with minimal permits for residents of every state are:Arkansas, Mississippi, Texas, and Virginia: 43 states with 5 permits (home, CT, IL, RI, ND).Idaho: 43 states with 5 permits (home, CT, OR, RI, ND).Michigan and North Dakota: 42 states with 3 permits (home, CT, RI).Alaska, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Wyoming: 42 states with 4 permits (home, CT, ND, RI).California: 42 states with 6 permits (home, CT, FL, ND, OR, RI).Alabama, Colorado, Delaware, Indiana, Iowa, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Utah: 41 states with 4 permits (home, CT, ND, RI).Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Oregon: 41 states with 5 permits (home, CT, FL, ND, RI).Nevada: 41 states with 5 permits (home, CT, ND, OR, RI).Wisconsin: 41 states with 5 permits (home, CT, FL, ND, RI).Washington: 41 states with 6 permits (home, CT, FL, ND, OR, RI).Connecticut: 40 states with 4 permits (home, FL, ND, RI).Rhode Island: 40 states with 4 permits (home, CT, FL, ND)Maine: 40 states with 4 permits (home, CT, ND, RI).Minnesota: 40 states with 5 permits (home, CT, FL, ND, RI).Vermont: 39 states with 4 permits (CT, FL, ND, RI).TL;DR Get a North Dakota non-resident permit, it's recognized in 36 states. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2nnvNwA

Glock 43 baseplate recommendations?

Like many others (I suspect), the announcement and release of the p365 has me eying my g43 longingly. I currently carry it with the stock pinky extension base plate. it fits in my hand okay and the biggest reason I carry it over something bigger is how well it conceals.I recently saw a family members g43 with the hyve +2 extension and got curious. id like an aftermarket baseplate that adds some capacity, but at the same time, some of the products add noticeable length to the gun's grip, which is the part most likely to print.so with that said, do any of you g43 owners have a +1 or +2 baseplate you like that doesn't stick out (much?) farther than the pinky extension stock plate? there are lots of videos on YouTube comparing various baseplates but I haven't found any good comparison shots of aftermarket plates to the stock pinky extension.help me sate my desire for an increased capacity without being an early adopter! via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2Grko7J

Just took a great ccw course

TL;DR: If you are within 5-6 hours of Birmingham; sign up for a class with Talon today.I got my ccw license in TN 5 years ago. For five years I’ve strapped up and thought I was good. I have some flat range time a few times a year to keep up etc.A friend of mine gets me to sign up for a course by Chase Jenkins with Takon Defense in Birmingham, AL. Two day concealed carry training course. 8-9 hours sat. 8-9 hours Sunday. Kicked. My. Ass.If any of you cats are near bham (I drove about 2.5 hours to get there), consider doing one of his courses. He mostly does LEO/MIL/FBI training, but his open enrollment courses are legit. I cannot recommend highly enough. The best part about it was that it gave me the chance to see how unprepared I was (particularly with my equipment setup). It wasn’t that he told me it was crap or told me to buy this or that; it was actually running the handgun didn’t cut it with what I had. From the holster, to the rail mounted safety/decocker on my beretta, to my mag holster, to my belt (which isn’t a carry belt); IT DIDNT WORK.People can tell you in person or online that this or that is better, but I’m hard-headed. Until I saw my equipment make me take an extra couple of seconds to get in the fight compared to other people who had their gear down, I wouldn’t have listened.Chase is super legit and, though he says he’s impatient, he was crazy patient with many group of 7 that came down. We were mixed in with people who had been to his courses many times. None of us had had this training, so there was a huge gap in skill level. He handled it like a pro, and gave those vets a good class, while giving us a good class too. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2nhZZtU

Older M&P Shield Performance Center vs. newer Std. M&P Shield 2.0

Looking for a CCW. Cannot decide if I should get the older Shield model with the Performance Center setup or a standard M&P Shield 2.0 and throw new sights on it. There are good deals on the older PC models right now, but I like the grip, trigger and stiffer frame (supposedly more accurate) of the 2.0. I’d have to add new sights to the 2.0, so it’s a chunk more $$. Money is not a HUGE issue, but it’s a consideration. I know S&W will eventually make a 2.0 in Performance Center config. but who knows how long that will take.Thoughts on either of these weapons? Which would you choose? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2DU688Y
