Looking for garter/leg holster advice. Anyone with experience using them?

I’m trying to help my S.O. find an alternative carry method for when she wears a dress. Her normal carry is an M&P9c IWB behind the hip. Whatever she settles on, it would need to have at least passive “molded” retention; soft elastic “pouch” holsters would be a no-go. We have a little guy running around now and they don’t seem to be able to retain well enough for the strenuous activity involved in the chasing/crawling/climbing after him when he’s out playing. Background:My S.O. has taken to wearing dresses often this summer, which means she can't carry with her pistol with the holsters we currently have. We're looking to get her a garter holster, but it seems like an alternative pistol will be needed to go with it.We experimented at home using ace bandages to strap the M&Pc to her thigh under her dresses (to see if it had any chance of being concealed before we went holster shopping for it) and we confirmed that it was too big. The rear of the slide and the bottom of the grip print through the dress even when it was as tight against her as we could get it. Its OAL is also too long: to keep the muzzle from peeking out below the hem of the dresses, the grip of the pistol has to be placed just about at her waistline. This means it only fits on the outside of her thigh, and not on the inside (as it seems most garter holsters are set up for).Has anyone used a garter-type holster to carry “larger” compacts? We’re thinking to look for something along the lines of an M&P Shield, as opposed to scaling all the way down to a BG380 or LCP sized pistol. She picked the M&P Compact because she wasn’t comfortable using any of the micro 380s she tried (too much snap and not enough grip). via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2txUreZ
