Comparing soviet ssh40 and PASGT kevlar helmets ive found that neither protect against rifle bullets, and both can take a direct shot from 45 acp(cases with soviet helmet could possibly vary depending on where bullet hit). I guess weight would be an advantage but kevlar isnt that much lighter especially not for the cost. I also dont believe they have much of a variation in deflections however that mostly depends on the helmets shape. Typical Kevlar helmets cost hundreds of dollars while you can find soviet helmets in the 20-50 dollar range.
