The wife had a close call and may finally choose to carry. Stuff to learn from

My wife and I have been together for almost 10 years. She had some negative experiences with an ex boyfriend back in the day, he thought it was a good idea to wave his gun around all the time. I respected her choice to not want to handle or shoot guns and she tolerated my growing collection of firearms. Without understanding firearms, she had the all too common fear or them randomly going off.During 2020 when the world was basically tits up, she finally went to the range and was actually a pretty decent shot and took to it really well. She picked out her first handgun, a ruger security 9 compact, and she went through the classes and got her permit. Since acquiring it, she has not carried once. Which I think is unfortunate since I work nights, she's home alone alot and runs errands with the kids while I sleep.Since then we dealt with a violent dog attack from a pitbull in the neighborhood that tried to attack my our dog with the kids in the yard. and almost killed the neighbor's golden retriever which required multiple stitches and surgery. Long story short.... Cops did nothing and she still didn't understand the need to carry.I'd always get shit like "why are you bringing a gun to the zoo" or "a family reunion" or "the grocery store" you get the idea.So today she's coming back from yoga class with her friend. There's a 4 way stop. On their side is a left turn lane and a straight/right turn lane. Some guy is in the right lane to go straight and is screaming at her with the windows open and flagging for her to go around and turn right even though there isnt space for 3 cars. He flips her off, she flips him back off. MISTAKE #1- engaging this weirdo. She waits and turns right and the guy whips around in the intersection and floors it to get behind her. Despite being followed she decides to turn and get in line at a drive through, effectively trapping herself and her friend. MISTAKE #2The guy pulls up next to her outside the drive through line and rolls down his window. She rolls down her window also. MISTAKE #3He then begins to yell and scream and get out of The vehicle. He's making threatening gestures and sexual gestures (you know the classy one with the v shaped fingers and tongue in between)Hes out there screaming in the middle of the parking lot. His wife/girlfriend corrals him and yells at him to get back in the car.He argues with his wife and then gets in and speeds off.My wife and her friend did not take down the plate number and call the police. MISTAKE #4So thankfully nothing truly bad happened. This was a good eye opener for her. We are now shopping for holsters since the kydex IWB holster I bought her doesn't work with leggings or whatever kind of fashionable elastic pants she chooses to wear lol. Who would've thought there were fucked up people out there? Really shatters that suburban middle class false feeling of safety some people have.So some good takeaways-no point having a gun and permit if you dont carry it-don't engage the weirdos even if you do nothing wrong-don't flip off a crazy guy who's road raging. Just ignore it.-be situationally aware and have an escape plancollect information to give to law enforcement via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2SMdC70
