I had to pull my CCW this weekend. Did I screw up?

IL CCW Permit holder. We live in populated area near a bar & restaurant scene. It was after midnight, my wife heard screaming outside and asked me to check it out. I had a few beers earlier in the evening, but was in no way drunk. I always carry, whether at home or out. So I go outside and a couple are arguing next to a busy street, two houses up the street. I observed the situation, and wasn’t going to intervene. Then he began pushing her into the street. The street is semi busy, no traffic at the exact moment, but I yelled for him to stop and get outta the area. He was obviously already in fight mode, asked me who the F$&@ I think I am, and starts charging toward me. She’s screaming at him, my wife makes it to the front porch at this time and I tell her call PD, get in the house go to the bedroom. About this time, the offender makes it to the corner of my porch and is now 5 steps from being in my house. I pulled my weapon. Screamed for him to get the hell away from me. He yells I’m lucky something something and takes off. PD shows up a few minutes later they find him up the street. The girl ran away, leaving her shoes. The wife didn’t know I had pulled my weapon nor did she tell PD on the phone. I sat in shock at how fast the situation went down. I’m in no condition to fight someone. I keep thinking I did something wrong, because I had a few beers in the evening. I legitimately felt threatened. I didn’t pursue charges. The PD doesn’t even know I pulled my weapon. The offender was stopped and questioned about the arguing. He was released. Did I fuck up? I feel guilty for having alcohol in my system, so I didn’t pursue the charges. I do think without my weapon things would have gone south fast. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3eBttxY
