Traveling with a gun in TX and CA

I’m in Texas for an extended stay and will be driving this weekend to CA to visit family there for a few weeks. I drove to TX with my Glock 19. My home state’s permit doesn’t have reciprocity with Texas.Doing some research, I have found some information that says that you can carry a gun in your car in TX without a permit provided you do not carry anywhere outside of your car. Is this true? If so, does it apply to non-residents of Texas? If you can provide it, the law where this is written would be appreciated. I’ll be driving through some very isolated areas near the border so if I can carry in my car, I would love to.Now California. I know I cannot carry my firearm in the state. However, I would still like to travel there with my gun. I will only be being 10 round mags with me from Texas to California so I don’t bring in mags that break CA’s capacity limit. My G19 is not on the state’s handgun roster. It is newer than a gen 3. Will I face any issues traveling in the state with an off roster gun that is unloaded and locked away? It’s my impression that the roster is for preventing the sale of certain handguns, not possession and therefore shouldn’t impact me traveling with it.Could be wrong about any or all of this. Any guidance is very much appreciated! via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2DBNRiN
