I just ended a pretty long legal fight. Not cheap, and not fun.I've been involved in 3 instances where I was required to pull my weapon, the first two were bad, this was the worst. To start off, my parents live in a very rural area, nothing wrong with that, but I learned that late night can be odd out there. So I pull up behind a pickup at a stop sign, pretty much in the middle of no where USA....on my way to my parents house (I'm in my 40's btw).Pickup is just sitting there, engine running, can't even see the drivers head in the window. The aforementioned shooting I was involved with about 15 years ago started when almost the same situation, it started when I honked my horn, so I felt like that wasn't going to happen again.... so I backed up and started to drive around the truck.Apparently this was a huge bad move and insult to the driver. He opened his door, and stumbled out of the truck. Unbeknownst to me at the time he had a 38 in his right hand....which he then fired a round into the asphalt after losing his balance. He then turned my way and fired another round about 270 degrees up left when he stood up.I usually carry a P2000psk, but that day I was working with my USP LEM....not much practice, but felt OK with it....After those shots I decided to get the hell out, but straight road, deep ditches on each side.... I couldn't turn around or go forward.... so I backed up an angle and pulled the USP out.Side note, if you're not used to an LEM trigger, DO NOT CARRY ONE.I get out of my car and pull to aim and pop a round through my door....adrenaline and lack of practice with that trigger. The guy then points his pistol at my car and fires another round, I saw the muzzle flash, so it was in my direction, but must have gone high.I got my bearings and didnt think to aim, and just pointed and fired. Hit him in the pelvis and right arm.Cops showed up.....pretty much immediately after that, like 3 or 4 minutes. I told them what happened, and requested a lawyer, said that I'm not talking to anyone without my lawyer. This was several years ago and I'm finally legally OK. I had CCW insurance coverage that handled most of it. Some of those companies are OK, some are NOT.Get CCW coverage if you carry. I will not endorse or shit on any of them. Telling this story is meant to get you ALL to look into that kind of representation.Oh, some details to help understand some loose ends ---> My insurance company (car and CCW) did NOT cover the damage to my door, understandable. The Sheriffs were so close because several cars had already passed by the pickup and thought someone was in distress. The shooter passed away before his trial, he chugged some kerosene and choked. No civil suit, the guy had no family to come after me. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/31BNX2Q
