Story Time - How my concealed carry saved my butt

Throwaway for obvious reasons.Located in one of the larger towns in South Carolina, CWP for 3 years in SC, raised by a cop of 30 years.Last night at 11PM, my wife let me know her SUV had the gas light on, and she had a lot of errands to run today, I decided to go fill it up to be nice! She told me to wait till the morning...We live in a decently nice area for our city, 400k+ houses in a state with an average house price of 200k. I drove about 10 minutes to a small gas station near the entrance to our city, a pretty busy intersection even at 11pm. As I was pulling into the stall, I noticed two patrons filling up staring intently at these two guys, so I rolled down my window and heard them arguing about crack and money. At this point they were still about 30 feet from me, and they were a good 20 feet apart from eachother. I felt really uneasy, so I grabbed my handgun (holstered) from the center console and put it into my shorts. (AIWB) I turned out, pulled out my wallet, watching both of them, and inserted my debit card. By the time I pulled the card out, they were running at eachother and the 'dealer' threw the other dude into the back of my SUV (physically on it) and was pushing him with his shoulder yelling "I'm going to fucking kill you.... you fucking coke head" and the other dude didn't back down, yelling back at the dealer. The dealer then said "I have a 44, Ill bust a cap in your ass" at which I point I realized I was right in the middle of what was about to become a messy situation. I yelled at them to "back the fuck off right now and calm the fuck down" to which the dealer replied "I'll fucking kill you, I've got a 44" at which point I drew and placed him down sights. He let the other guy go, who stepped back with his hands up, but the dealer kept yelling he was going to kill me, and placed his hands in his coat. I told him to get his fucking hands out, and to calm the fuck down. I was teetering the trigger when, thank GOD, two deputy sheriffs rolled up followed by four city cops. I re holstered as soon as the cops got out and placed my hands on my head, they were yelling instructions and were drawn on all of us. I kept my hands on my head until an officer approached me, asked me if I was lawfully carrying and if he could disarm me. I said yes to both, and he asked where the gun was and if it was loaded and chambered. Yes to both, I kept my hands on my head and he removed the weapon, dropped the mag and cleared the chamber. At this point there were 15 cops there, so he took my handgun to his car and then came back and asked for my information.Four different cops took my story, and thankfully one of the patrons who took off came back and corroborated by story. They made me hang out for a hour while they pulled footage, but about 20 minutes in one of the SGTs. told me I was justified and they would have done the same thing and they weren't worried about me. Both of the crackheads were handcuffed, the dealer was hauled off, the other they released and he thanked me for saving his life. It truly looked like he was a victim, as if he had previously bought from the dealer but was trying to get clean.Morals of the story:Always be aware of your surrounding, don't put yourself in a situation where you would ever need to drawAlways keep your weapon loaded and chambered, and don't pull it out unless you intend on using it.Cops don't have any idea what's going on when they pull up, so chill out and let them work the scene.Still shaken up, just thankful my wife or kids weren't with me or I might not have hesitated to fire. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2DC1hLo
