Story time - Guy Scoping Out House at 2am

Background: I live in a city of about 200k, right next to a small college and it's usually very quiet (unlike the liquor store I work at but that's a different story). I have 3 guns, an AR which I usually keep locked in my safe, a VP9 with a flashlight and red dot that I usually keep in a quick access safe on my nightstand and my current carry pistol that usually sits next to it in its holster. That day I chose to lay out all my guns with their mags next to them and just left them on my bed next to me (they're all unloaded).Last week Sunday I was told by my roommate that somebody was walking around outside, scoping out our house. I happened to have woken up at midnight and hadn't fallen asleep at 2 when he came into my room and even though I wasn't recently woken I was still a little thrown off by his entrance. When he told me there was a guy outside I immediately grabbed my VP9 and loaded it then loaded my AR. I threw on different shorts with my gun belt and holstered my pistol then walked around my house to make sure the doors were locked and that he wasn't still walking around outside. We both went back to sleep afterwards and I never saw the guy.I noticed a few things when it was all over and I was thinking about it after. First, as I was trying to get my holster on the belt I realized how much my hands were shaking and took 1 deep breath to get me grounded. I'm glad to see that I could recognize and do that.Second, the idea of going out to confront the guy popped into my head but instead told myself not to go looking for a fight and stay inside instead.I also realized I chose my V9 over my AR because it had a flashlight so I just ordered a light for my AR. And on that note I made the conscious decision not to turn any lights on on my house because I thought it gave me a tactical advantage of knowing the house and made my WML more disorienting.TL:DR Guy was walking around outside, I grabbed the gun and made sure the house was secure. Nothing happened and we went back to sleep. Reinforced the knowledge that I can be cool under pressure and discovered I'm more conscious about myself than I thought. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3a9sP71
