Hello all, Please help. I am F/32/5’8/200 for context. Twice in the past month, I’ve been followed/harassed in my neighborhood. The first time, I was walking my dog when a homeless man exposed himself and began following me. I escaped harm by running across the main street to a group of women who were standing on the main street (my pup was oblivious).
Then again tonight. I was walking with my husband when a man on a bike passed us. We turned onto a nearby street and soon realized that he had doubled back and was now coming towards us. The street was poorly lit but in a nicer more affluent neighborhood. He stopped in front of us and tried to get me to approach him. The situation felt immediately tense and unsafe. My husband and I began backing away slowly and booked it after a few seconds. The man tried saying something as we were leaving but I didn’t stick around to hear it. I feel like we were very lucky in this situation and that if the person had been more aggressive/confrontational we could have been in a lot of trouble.
I run/exercise in my neighborhood frequently and am scared that I’ll find myself in a situation like this again and not know what to do. Aside from carrying pepper spray, what other tips or strategies do people have for dealing with these types of situations? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
