Want to get a really fast, smooth draw? Add a metronome. Professional musician for 10 years, and metronome practice is the single best way to train in smoothness, muscle memory, accuracy and speed. I've taken this same concept from music and applied it with great results to bjj and mma, and now with my dry fire and holster practice. I'll break it down:For those of you that don't know, a metronome is a machine (an app these days) that accurately and consistently divides up time through clicks. It's the little triangle monolith thing that swings back and forth that you see in movies or shows that include a scene with a musician practicing. These clicks obviously help musicians keep the beat more accurately than our brains are naturally inclined to do, and any musician worth their salt will tell you that the metronome is your best friend. The idea is that you start a passage very slowly (60 beats per minute), make sure you can nail it perfectly while relaxed repeatedly in a row, and then incrementally increase the speed of the metronome. I usually do 10 bpm increments, some musicians will say I'm moving too fast, whatever. Any time you consistently mess up, slow the metronome back down to the last measure you got it correctly, and then work your way up by 1 or 2 bpm at a time. So, if you take your draw and divide the motions into clearly identifiable beats, the concept translates very nicely. I carry AIWB and have been dividing my draw up as such:1 - lift shirt2 - strong hand on weapon3 - draw to low ready4 - present5 - acquire sight picture6 - fireDo this in front of a mirror to monitor your form, this will be especially helpful during the slower speeds. I have successfully used this method to shave off some time and struggle from my draw, as well as improve my body mechanics during my draw. I can go pretty smooth now up to about 210bpm, but I still have a ways to go before I'm getting at quick draw speeds.Let me know what you think, as well as any suggestions on how to cut down on "beats" during my draw. Hope this helps! via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2PB65TN
