How to avoid conversation/interrogation from chavs and other shady individuals

Good day, redditors

I would like to ask for an advice on how to handle a certain type of situation I've been getting myself into lately. I usually come back home from the evening shifts at night and I unfortunatelly have to draw my path through the dark and deserted alleys, sometimes "patrolled" by the fantastic beasts (you know the type, bald, posh, IQ equating to the number of stripes on their adidas pants) who yell at me stuff a la "scuse me, oi com here, sir can i help ya".

I solve it by walking in a quick pace head up and ignore them looking straight into the distance. But what should I do if they become aggressive and decide to attack or mug me?
