How do I get to the point that I feel comfortable keeping a round chamberd?

I've grown up in a huge pro gun family, but it seems that everyone in my family Carrie's with a chambered round. I've been shooting since I was a kid and know all about gun safety. I carry everywhere I go , full mag, but not one in the chamber. I feel safe and comfortable if I had to use it in a self defence situation, I could rack it and chamber it in time. In reality though, I've seen videos, ASP f oi r example, that, that isn't always the case. Should I be carrying whith one in the chamber, and if so , what's the next way to do it comfortably?
