Situational awareness saved me from robbery

Was talking about this with a friend today and figured I would share as its a great example of how important situational awareness is.A while ago, in the evening time, when the sun was starting to go down but not dark enough to struggle to see, I pulled into a gas station close to home to fill up.Before I exit the car I take a quick scan and notice nothing out of the norm. Exit, prepay, start pumping.I do the usual; back to the car with head and eyes up. Not expecting anything but just lightly scanning my sorrundings as is second nature. My plan was to go inside and pick up some milk and a few extra items when the pump was done. As it was close to being finished I see an older model car pull in with four young (possibly teenagers) passengers inside. They stop right beside the door. I notice all of them start frantically looking around. I take note of this as its odd behavior.30 or so seconds later my gas is done pumping but all the passengers are still in the car. Who pulls up to a gas station just to sit in the car? I notice a lot of movement inside the car and all passengers continue to look around. I made eye contact with two of them. Something seemed off.I placed the pump back and continued to stand there for at least a minute or two more. Something did not add up with their behavior and presence.I decided I could wait until tomorrow to pick up what I needed and left. A boring non-event.Next day I found out that those four passengers ended up robbing that gas station at knife point just a few minutes after I left. Not as cool or exciting as many defensive gun use stories posted on here but still a good reminder of why situational awareness is important.Stay alert. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2Vpb5Pi
