I'm confused about belts. (please check my disclaimer)

Up-front disclaimer: I know that gun belts are talked about extensively around here and people tend to ask the same questions. It's basically moot at this point. I've read the FAQ (and the posts linked to it) and I've searched a couple combinations of keywords on the subreddit. I'm still missing some clarity.Gear/Person: I have a Walther CCP M2 (single stack 9mm, about 24oz loaded) and I'm probably going to get a LightTuck. I'm a 5'10" 145lbs male and I wear pretty tight clothes (stretchy super skinny jeans or stretchy shorts above my knees, and medium tees usually). I've already tested and reconciled that AIWB right at 12 o'clock is the best position for me, for a couple reasons. This is not a question about clothing. My tight jeans actually help with the comfort and support of carrying at 12.The actual question: I've read a LOT on this sub about the significance of a gun belt. I have a few recommendations to work off of (a clone of the Vedder quick release one, and Hank's belts for when I need to tuck in a button-down) for gun-belts. Not the problem. My dad, who served in the army for 7 years and was a city deputy for several years as well, and has been carrying for like 30 years, told me that most gun belts are marketing gimmicks (paraphrase, not his words) and a decent, reasonably heavy leather belt for less than half the price will do the trick, especially since I'm packing a compact (right? CCP is compact not full size?) on appendix. This man also carries SOB a lot, uses sticky holsters for pocket carry, as well as an ankle holster. His opinions diverge from the general consensus around here, in most areas.I think that my main concern with picking between a "sturdy leather belt" and a much more expensive hank's belt, is if my holster's claw will protrude instead of using the belt for leverage to push the butt into my belly.I have no doubt about the need for a good gun belt for basically any other carry position, and/or a larger/heavier gun.Can someone shed light on an expensive gun belt for compact AIWB? From experience, not principle. "Could you trust that cheap belt with your life?" does not help me. I've heard it both ways around here: "a gun belt makes no difference for me AIWB, but it does for every other position", and, "a gun belt made ALL the difference for me with AIWB."I just really want some honest, practical examples from people that carry a similar compact (not sub-compact) at about 12, give or take, with a regular heavier belt versus a purpose-built belt. The conflicting advice tells me I'm missing some objective information. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/34NYLLr
