Trying to improve accuracy with Ruger LCR--can't seem to avoid using too much trigger finger.

I have the LCR in .327 Federal Magnum and am frustrated with my shots being less consistently good than they are with other pistols. I understand that part of it is obviously the short barrel, but I can tell that it's also because I can't seem to grip it in a way that doesn't make me use too much trigger finger. I'm shooting left all the time and I can just tell that I'm using the first knuckle rather than the fingertip. For one, the gun is small even with the Hogue grip, so it just doesn't fit my hand as well as a full-size pistol. To get my finger placement correct I end up holding the grip low. For two, the trigger is so heavy (though it is smooth) that it's not easy to press with just my fingertip.I shoot well enough with the gun, but knowing what the problem is yet not knowing how to fix it is getting to me. Anyone else have this issue with a similar gun? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2niTxVL

I am cross eyed dominant and can’t focus on my sights, makes shooting unpleasant

It’s been happening often that when I visit the range to practice, my left eye keeps focusing on the sights subconsciously while I consciously try to aim down them with my right (I shoot right handed). I’m a weird mix of lefty and righty; I write with my left hand, shoot with my right, use tools and knives with my left, etc. I’m not consistently using one hand.I keep trying to practice shooting with both eyes open to practice that good peripheral vision and have a good field of view, I don’t want tunnel vision when I’m in a life or death situation with others lives at stake. When I have eyes open, it gets blurry, I’m kinda seeing double and I can’t focus on which eye to put the pistol in front of. I tried moving the pistol almost center and lean my head to focus with my eye but it’s hard. I put the gun in front of my right eye but again, my brain is trying to focus with my left and it’s blurry. So today I was shooting with my right eye open and left closed, much better and improved shooting with good groups, but clearly I don’t want to get in that closed eye habit. What do I do? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2ivEIxo

First time Concealed Carry

Hello, I've never owned a gun and as a result have never carried concealed. I'm looking to at some point start and was wanting some advice. Arkansas honors non-resident permits?

A friend and I were looking at New Hampshire's permit application and it's crazy easy to get a non-resident permit from there. From what I can tell, no training certificate or fingerprints are needed.Everywhere I look, it seems to be explicit that Arkansas honors non-resident permits. The statute says "A person in possession of a valid license to carry a concealed handgun issued to the person by another state is entitled to the privileges and subject to the restrictions prescribed by this subchapter."So my friend asks his lawyer if that is sufficient enough to just get the NH permit as a resident of AR. His lawyer said, it doesn't say it's illegal but it looks ambiguous and I'd just get an AR permit. It's weirding me out. I don't see any ambiguity at all. My friend now won't apply for the NH permit because of what his lawyer said.I have a non-resident FL permit that I use in AR so I guess I am just wanting to touch base and see if I'm an idiot and can't read or what. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2it6Z86

Getting ready to start carrying, need some opinions on holsters.

I have a M&P shield and I'm looking for a good IWB holster. So far I've looked at the stealthGear revolution, crossbreed supertuck, and the alien gear shapeshift 4.0. I'm wanting a holster that is breathable and won't irritate my side rubbing against it. Which of these are better for that? ( I'm leaning towards the revolution ) via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2kc24Ja

Questions about IL, KY, TN, GA and FL.

(Legal) I will be traveling to Florida from Wisconsin in December. I'll be passing through IL, KY, TN and GA to get there. I understand my rights in IL but am not sure about the others (mostly stand your ground laws) I know I don't have a duty to inform unless asked (GA being the exeption), but would appreciate any other nuances or advice on these states. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2ipVHkV

Interstate Relocation and CCW Validity

So I’m not sure how to go about this, maybe someone has similar experience.I received my CCW in the state of Arkansas. I relocated to Louisiana and now have a Louisiana drivers license. My Arkansas granted CCW has not expired yet. Is it still valid now that I am a resident of the state of Louisiana? If it is not, is there a process to transfer to Louisiana or apply for a renewal in Louisiana? Or do I have to entertain the entire process again in this new state? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2BzlTyl

There are now (un)officially 16 million concealed carry permits in the U.S. - and compare how it's been since 1986

Hello /r/CCWYou may remember when I posted this spreadsheet showing there were 15 million concealed carry permits. Well now there are 16.1 million!I am always updating it, and one BIG change I've added if the number of permits, by state and territory, since 1986. Obviously not all the records are there, but it is pretty neat to look at.My biggest project for this at the moment is getting number from Alabama, Rhode Island, Nevada, and Missouri (I have to FOIA every since county). There are one main discrepancies from the Crime Research's paper that shows 16.3 million permits - Colorado. * CR uses the number of NCIS checks * I use number issued over 5 years minus revokedIf anyone can guide me in the right direction or wants to help out filling out that historical data, please let me know! via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2zRyS15

I'm interested in carrying a full size pistol.

Is this possible for someone who is 5' 11" and 160lbs?I've previously carried a glock 23 as a sheriff's deputy and now that I've moved on in my career want to upgrade to something more interesting than a department issue sidearm. Glocks work fantastically, but they don't fit my hand too well. Also, this is incredibly stupid but aesthetics are somewhat important to me and I just hate they way they look.I've been poking around on the internet and am interested in a Jericho 941 with a polymer frame. I also like the H&K P30, and the Sig P226.Anyone have experience with either of those three? Or suggestions for other handguns I may be ignoring? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2ALaDlf

Flying and TSA

So I just started a new job that requires some travel. I've flown with my CCW before so I'm familiar with the protocol and regulations etc. But I have a question regarding the communication at the check-in counter. Usually I just go up there and verbally tell them "I'm declaring an unloaded firearm" blah blah. And I don't really care what other people around me think because I know none of them. But now, since I'll be traveling for work, there's a chance a co-worker may be behind me/next to me etc in line, and I'd rather them not know I carry for obvious reasons. So my question is, is it acceptable to maybe just hand the TSA agent a typed note on maybe an index card with large font saying, "I"M DECLARING AN UNLOADED FIREARM. PLEASE PROCEED WITH THE CHECK-IN".... or something along those lines?? I know I'll have to show my case but if the co-worker sees me I can always just tell them its an extra insulin pump or something like that. Checking in won't be an issue because we would arrive at the airport separately at separate times. But returning we would most likely be together. Was just curious if anyone else has been in that situation and how you went about it. Would the index-sized card with the message typed on it be acceptable? Any other ideas?EDIT: I'll definitely be calling TSA just to make sure. But I'd like to hear any advice on here as well. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2zRLAwN

Looking for an easily adjustable belt

My current carry is a M&P Shield on a Vedder LightTuck holster. I use a cheap leather belt, but I need something better. My casual everyday belt is a canvas design with a toothed buckle that allows extremely fine adjustability, which is a feature I really like. So the Kore Trakline appealed to me, but most people here seem to say that they're great at the start but don't last long. The only comparable design I've seen in the RGB, which looks very nice, but is also a bit pricey. It should be noted that I normally only carry on the weekends, due to the illegality of carrying at my workplace, so I'd like to stick to "dressier" style belts that would be fine wearing to church. I'm just wondering if there are other options that I haven't seen mentioned yet that would fit these criteria. My pants waist is only 28" so I have a bit of trouble finding belts with holes that fit. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2jwA0Ms

Can’t decide between DA/SA or striker-fired handgun for first concealed carry gun

Hey y’all, so i’m looking into buying my first concealed carry gun, and i don’t have enough information to decide. i’ve been drawn toward DA/SA guns, but i don’t have enough experience to know if that would be a good choice over striker-fired options, especially as a first handgun. So, the guns i’m looking at that are DA/SA are the Sig Sauer P239, the CZ 75 P-01, and the Beretta 92 Compact. The striker-fired guns i’m interested in are the Sig Sauer P320 and the Smith & Wesson M&P 2.0. For whatever i choose, it will be in 9mm. So does anyone have any suggestions on the guns i’ve listed or have any other guns i should consider? Also any tips in regards to DA/SA vs. striker-fired in general? Any responses are greatly appreciated! via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2kc3ROf

I think I'm using the Alien Gear 3 holster incorrectly.

Before I was using a $12 Uncle Mike holster and I felt it was too loose in my pants, that if I were to fall my gun would come right out.I ordered a Alien Gear 3 as recommendation by a co-worker and read a lot of reviews that were absolutely praising it, but I'm having an issue with it and I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong or if I am the idiot using it incorrectly. For practice, a little more than half the time I go to pull my gun, regardless of direction or angle I pull it at, the holster will come out with it and the gun will still be in the holster, so if it were a life or death scenario, I'd be dead and look stupid dying. The only time it comes up with these every time is when it's not in my pants. I thought I was tightening my belt too tight, I'll loosen it, and I'll still have trouble pulling it out at times.I feel as if when I get it out without issue, I'm doing nothing noticeably different from when it sticks in the entire holster comes out.Am I doing something wrong or is this at least a slightly common issue with these holsters? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2BA8Oov

Carrying in Delaware???

Hey guys,I'm new to Reddit and this is my first post in this forum. The gf is getting a new job and we may be moving to Delaware from Pennsylvania. Ive been reading up on the gun laws there, obviously not as friendly as PA. As I understand, its a "may issue" state. I'm new to this iwb and hybrid holster thing and I need some help!

Background: Ok so I've been carrying my 1911 owb for a year now and I recently got a CZ PCR (which is roughly g19 sized as I understand) and I wanna carry it iwb if possible. I'm 5'6", 200 lb, have a gut, and I have pretty aggressively forward rotated hips which makes my gut stick out even more. I put my belt the only place it'll go, with the top of the belt at the bottom of my gut and the bottom of the belt at where my legs bend. Appendix carry is impossible, even for a magazine. 4:00 and farther back throws my hip and/or back out (previous injury). So I need to carry at 3:00-3:30. I have a beltman horsehide belt with internal stiffener. The issue: I got a Black Arch Protos M holster (see link below) for my PCR and while it seems great, the holster clips are so long that they go below the bottom of my belt and past where my legs bend and stab me in the leg when I bend my leg to walk or sit. Apparently I wear my belt a lot lower than most, but it's literally the only place for it to go. Adjusting the ride height doesn't help because the clip is still the same length. I got their assorted clips set, but none are significantly short enough to make a difference. Is there a solution for this holster? I thought about seeing if there's another brand that makes shorter clips, but then I still have the rest of the holster wing down there at my leg bend point to deal with too. I can still return it for a reasonable restocking fee.Do I need a different style of holster? I was concerned that a single clip holster wouldn't spread the weight around enough (I can't wear my belt snug due to the back injury).Any suggestions welcome, especially by short people or people who wear their pants low. If I can't get iwb to work I guess I'll just owb the rest of my life or something. via /r/CCW https://www.reddit.com/r/CCW/comments/7g8xov/im_new_to_this_iwb_and_hybrid_holster_thing_and_i/?utm_source=ifttt

Being confronted by retail store management

Let's say you are in a store, with your CCW on you, properly concealed, and you are approached by a member of staff who tells you that a customer has informed them that they think you have a gun, and they ask you if this is true. Let's say it's one of those stores where their "policy" is to forbid weapons on the premises, but it's not technically illegal - the worst case is that they ask you to leave, and you leave. Say, somewhere like Costco. So, the questions...Am I required to tell them upon asking whether or not I am actually carrying? Would you simply deny it, since concealed is concealed and they can't see it at this moment, or do you come clean to avoid a scene? Do they have any right to frisk me or lay a hand on me if I refuse to confirm or deny that I'm carrying? Do they have a right to lay a hand on me while "escorting" me from the store?I'm just curious as to what exactly my and their rights are in this situation. Thoughts? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2nbIr56

Concealed carry for hiking advice/suggestions?

To start off with, I carry an Osprey Stratos 24 hiking backpack. The backpack has a waist belt, as well as waist belt pockets around the hips. This limits the ability to attach a concealed holster pouch (or does it?).I am thinking of either sticking to pocket carry, or buying a 5.11 Select Carry Pistol Pouch (if it can be worn at the same time as my hiking backpack and waist strap ~~~ Suggestions)Edit: Are there concealed carry pouches with large and wide clips or a loop that could fit over a waist pocket that is just under half an inch wide, ~4.8" height? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2zNQDOA

Am I the only one that wishes CZ would make more small pistols?

I know they have the RAMI but it is too bulky for me. With my size (5ft 6in - 135lbs) and location/climate (Texas) I'm really limited on the size of pistol I could carry. Options that fit me best are single stack .380s which CZ doesn't have a line of. Also after shooting full size CZs I'm hooked on their controls and ergonomics. The best next thing would probably have to be a colt mustang/sig p238 but I haven't got my hands on one of those yet. Any other suggestions? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2By1NnV

Just got an M&P 2.0C with Apex's FSS kit in a trade. Questions about the trigger...

Warning: long post with questions from an ignorant person looking to be spoon fed some knowledge. Stop reading now if you don't care or don't want to waste your bathroom break time on reddit (it is precious time after all).So according to Apex's site, the FFS kit can be adjusted by swapping between the 'heavy duty' and 'duty/carry' springs to achieve between 2.5-5.5lb trigger pull (pull weight info obtained from their video). I also understand that this trigger is different from their DCAEK kit as it's flat faced instead of round, and it reduced the take-up, over-travel and improved the reset even more than the DCAEK. Now the questions:1a) is the FSS trigger compatible with the stock 2.0 trigger internals? Correct me if I'm wrong but it is my understanding that this is possible with the DCAEK trigger, which is why they sell the AEK internals and the DCAEK trigger shoe as separate products.1b) is the trigger shoe the only thing that makes the DCAEK kit different from the AEK kit? The trigger is what makes it applicable to 'Duty and Carry' use?2) does anyone know which combination of springs in the FSS kit yields the highest pull weight? Preferably over 5lbs.3) if there are any defensive-gun-use (DGU) lawyers reading this: does carrying a firearm with a modified trigger make you easier to wrongly prosecute in the event of justified DGU? If yes, does the trigger weight play any part in this regard or does the fact that the trigger is modified negate any possible defense against arguments like "he modified the trigger because he's a blood thirsty killer"? i.e. Configuring the FSS to have a 5.5lb pull as opposed to making it as light as possible for comp.PS: 9mm model. Located in OK. Curious about the legal implications when applied to AZ as well. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2zwDVjk

Magazine Spring Upgrade -- Yes or No?

This is something I've been pondering for a while and I wanted to hear your opinions on the matter. Thanks in advance for your responses! As you all know, there are certain states in the U.S. (California, Colorado, New York, etc) that place limits on the number of rounds a magazine can hold.If someone were to move to a new state that does not have these ridiculous mag limits in place, what do you think would be the better option?Spend the money and get all new mags for their guns (may not be feasible for folks that struggle financially)Save some money and simply install standard OEM springs for the sub-standard capacity magazinesThe reason I'm curious is because while it's generally a bad idea to CC a heavily modified weapon (custom sights, trigger job, etc), there isn't much discussion on magazines or the situation I described in the second option. On one hand, your mag only holds the "normal" number of rounds. On the other hand, is this something that could be effectively used against you in court if you were involved in a self-defense shooting? Obviously, the magazine would still appear the same prior to upgrading. What are your thoughts? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2BhNhQ8

The Springfield XD Mod. 2 4-inch in 9mm for EDC

Hello:I’m having a considerable inner debate on whether my Springfield XD Mod 2, 4” would be too big as an EDC IWB, 4 o’clock position. Those with experience EDCing this pistol, please check out the links provided and comment.http://ift.tt/2qSnoT7 http://ift.tt/2iYJMHQ details on my situation. - Work constraints: I work from home at a home office, so I don’t have constraints on the “work” front. - Garment limitations: I usually wear shorts, not pants/jeans. - Confort/Printing: I’m wondering if printing with this pistol would be too much? I’m about 5’6”, 170 lbs. - Extra cost: This is the only pistol I currently own, buying a different make and model for EDC is an option although only if it’s necessary. - holsters: I’m thinking a smaller, IWB, kydex holsters with one belt loop? Will it work? I don’t think I would enjoy the big holsters, I.e. Alien Gear via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2BiBp0s

Shield/LC9s vs P938

Hey guys, so I posted a topic a few weeks ago when I had a limited idea of what I wanted in my first CC pistol. Since then, I’ve been to many gun stores and I’ve handled tons of pistols many times over. I think either the Shield, LC9s, or the P938 are for me. I can get the Shield or the LC9s for $280 out the door, OR I can get a P938 for $550 out the door.I’m 5’7” and 150lb and I’ll be most likely carrying AIWB. When carrying, I ABSOLUTELY cannot print. I loved the Beretta PX4 Compact, but could never carry it for this reason.BTW I need to say that the LC9s is the Honda Accord of the group aesthetically speaking. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2na1zjX

Carrying spare magazines

The world seems to have become an increasingly violent place and seems to show no signs of slowing down. Because I live in an area infested with gangs and hard drugs, I have become more concerned about multiple attackers and individuals hopped up on meth who refuse to go down when shot.I'm trying to figure out a way to carry more ammunition on my person to be prepared for these situations. My current carry setup includes a SR9 at 3:00, a shield 9 in a crossdraw holster at 9:00, and a LCP either in my front right pocket or on an ankle holster.I am currently only able to carry one spare magazine for each gun on my belt due to space issues. I feel that this leaves me vulnerable should an extended gunfight break out and am looking for more options. I have considered a low profile chest rig hidden under a flannel shirt and jacket, but this would only work during the coldest days and could more easily lead to me being made. Other options I've considered have include a homemade thunderwear style magazine pouch and shoulder holsters. Obviously I can keep them in my truck next to my AR but I need to have them immediately accessible. What would you do? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2hWinW0

The simpler and smaller they are, the more chances that people will read and follow the rules. We are going to take the stance that our rules are an addition to reddit's rules. The enforcement will be the same but we feel we don't need to call out reddit's sidewide rules:Reddit's sitewide rules are enforced and below are /r/CCW specific rules.Content Not Applicable: Any post that does not relate to (a) the carrying of a weapon in a legal manner; or (b) any post that does not relate to self-defense.Spam: (a) Any posting, including self-posts, links, and comments, posted to this subreddit for the primary purpose of getting pagehits for personal blogs, e.g. "clickbait". (b) Posts for the sole purpose of soliciting business for private interests. Bloggers and Sellers view this page to see what you can and cannot do.Harassment: (a) Posting material for the sole purpose of inflaming the users of this subreddit. (b) Personally attacking other users of this subreddit. (c) Posts containing racist or otherwise inflammatory material towards a particular group of people.Politics: Any post that is political in nature must be directly related to self-defense. General "gun control" or otherwise political posts are prohibited.Post Descriptions: All link posts must contain a description in the comments. This description must contain, at the very least, 10 words describing the content and how it relates to CCW or self-defense.Firearm Images: Pictures of just a firearm are not allowed. If you're posting a picture of your firearm, it must contain another piece of your carry equipment (holster, belt, etc). This change removes:Illegal Content (covered in reddits rules)Link Shorteners (covered in reddits rules)Vote Brigading (covered in reddits rules)As mentioned the enforcement will not change. You might have noticed that some of the rules we are keeping are still called out in reddit's sitewide rules (harassment and spam) however those rules are exercised often and we prefer to use our definition instead and keep them as a reminder. So, what say you /r/CCW subscribers? There are 50k now, so it shall be quite a discussion! As always, this is a proposal and we will not implement unless we get the go ahead from our members./r/CCW Mods via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2hlPhz9

I'd like to get R/CCW's opinion on this bear charge video. I think it illustrates that it isn't so much which caliber you have but if you can get a shot/shots off in time.
