I just traveled from Texas to Ohio (through detroit airport) and decided to take my firearms since I'm now used to my glock 43 always being on my hip. The trip was a success with no real issues.Picked up a hard case at sams club. It was $20 pelican knock off. I bought the pelican 1450 and the sams club one and decided the $100 difference wasn't worth it. Exact same dimensions, only one I couldn't scuba dive with. (Pro tip, make sure the pressure release valve is open otherwise your case will get sucked in from the pressure)Locks. I paid a premium for some abloy PL330's. TSA would have a fun time trying to pop these with bolt cutters.Printed out the TSA and Southwest guidelines for flying in case they gave me any shit and kept them inside my hard case. Didn't need them but are good to have on hand in case they tried to tell me something that wasn't in their rules.Ohio is more gun friendly than Texas. Everywhere I went I looked for any gun signage since I'm used to Texas 30.06, 30.07, and 51% signs. A guy was open carrying a full sized 1911 in Costco so I figured I was fine.So the airports were easy. Flying out of Texas the southwest employee just asked to open the case to put the declaration paper inside. Then she tossed it on the belt and that was it. The flight back the southwest employee called the TSA and I had to bring it over there after they put the declaration inside. She swabbed it for stuff and I asked if I needed to open it for her to check that the guns were unloaded. She said this I shit you not "I don't know anything about guns so it doesn't matter". After the machine beeped she took it behind the doors and off I went through security.TSA didn't say anything about my holsters which was nice since there seem to be mixed reports. I made sure all my magazines were in my locked box however. So that's it really, no hiccups, no cavity checks, my guns arrived with locks intact. Figured this info might help other people know that it's not taboo to fly with your guns even if the people next to you go pale when you say you're there to declare a firearm and see a few glocks and massive pad locks. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2u5v20m
