Suppose you're carrying concealed and are faced with an apparently empty handed belligerent who is intent on fighting you, despite attempts to deescalate. Drawing and brandishing or shooting is obviously inappropriate, right? However if this individual closes distance and attacks you, you're now at risk of your weapon being discovered and taken and/or used against you, possibly falling out of the holster. Not to mention the fact that you could simply be beaten to the point of death or permanent disability.
