Not sure if it's a good idea for me to CC

I already own a gun, a six inch S&W 686, so I'd have to buy a new one for carry but I'm not sure if it's a good idea. I have certain issues that make me overly jumpy and anxious, not to mention paranoid and nervous, and while I'm responsible and have self control, enough that I'm mostly comfortable with having a gun (under lock and key, which of course makes it useless for defense), but I'm on the fence about carry. But on the other hand, being defenseless also makes me nervous. I guess I'm here to see if I can be swayed to one side of the other.
