Are carrying a weapon and standing up for yourself mutually exclusive things?

Just a quick question that popped into my mind today. Always talk of always deescalation on this sub. Legally as long as you're not chasing and be the provoker, if the other person commits the initial force, what is this community's opinion on that? I obviously understand that most things aren't worth it but can you politely hold your ground if you're not provoking or doing anything wrong? And I'm not talking draw a gun in an argument but if the other party strikes you first? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2laDPda
