I'm looking for a IWB holster for a PCR. I had watched a lot of reviews on how good the stealthgear onyx was however they don't make it for the PCR. i would still like something light and breathable like a stealthgear if possible. Any suggestions? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/1TWuO1r

JM Custom Kydex...

...is absolutely worth the money. Everyone who recommended them is absolutely right, I have never felt a more comfortable AIWB holster. After talking to them I went with the "George" and it just disappears from 12 all the way to 5 (after 2 I take off the neoprene). I've sat, drove, and run with it for a few days now and it is hands down more comfortable and concealed than anything I've tried before, including a few hybrid holsters.10/10 would buy and wait again. Here is the pic, sorry for potato: http://ift.tt/1TIJy0s via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/1XdPvZG

Good Suggestions for Pants?

What kind of pants do you wear while carrying? I don't want to scream "tactical" with 5.11 pants but I want something more than just jeans. I'd like some more pockets or low profile cargo pockets. Any suggestions? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/1WXt6PI

Traveling to Missouri from Illinois in the next few days.

Hey Guys, I think I've pretty much read everything I need to read on the subject but I figured I would verify with you peeps specifically Missouri citizens. From what I've read or the way I understand them anyway. HERE it lists the 17 places you're not allowed to conceal carry a weapon. but then below that it saysCarrying of a concealed firearm in a location specified in subdivisions (1) to (17) of subsection 1 of this section by any individual who holds a concealed carry permit issued pursuant to sections 571.101 to 571.121, or a concealed carry endorsement issued prior to August 28, 2013, shall not be a criminal act but may subject the person to denial to the premises or removal from the premises. So, what I've gathered from that I basically can CC basically anywhere I want except if I'm some how discovered and asked to leave, I'm obligated to leave immediately. Am I correct here? I realize 99.9999999999999% are not lawyers here but I believe I'm interpreting the law the correct way here. anyway carry safe! via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/22weJl7

Some thoughts (and questions) after my first 24 hours CCW...

I picked up my first handgun recently; a S&W M&P 380 Bodyguard. I couldn't pass up the sale price, and I really liked the small size as I felt it would be the best option for both business and casual attire. I installed a Techna Clip on the side, and picked up DeSantis pocket holster for when clipping it into a pocket isn't feasible. I opted for the safety-less version at the urging of both Reddit and the salesman...It felt really weird carrying a loaded gun around... Does the "I'm breaking the law" feeling ever go away? I was standing in line at a coffee shop when a group of cops walked in and waited in line behind me. I was just waiting for them to start harassing me, and even though it didn't happen, I still felt like I was doing something wrong. I live in a state with permitless carry, so not having an official card or other evidence to put my mind at ease probably contributed to that. The Techna Clip is awesome for jeans with pockets that cut straight across your hip with little dip, but absolute shit for any other pants with pockets that dip lower down, such as those in dress pants. The gun just slides down and hangs awkwardly.Since the Techna Clip was awful in my dress pants, I tried it with the pocket holster, and that was no better. Sure, the gun was secure and no part of it could be seen, but it felt (and looked) like I had $100 in quarters in my pocket. With my phone in my other pocket, I felt like I was wearing a tool belt, and it looked ridiculous, with two big lumps sitting on top of my thighs. What's the Reddit-approved CCW for dress slacks with a tucked in shirt??I carry with a round in the chamber, and as noted above, I opted for the safety-less version. The trigger pull on this gun is HEAVY, and LONG, and safety enough, but I'm still concerned that I'm going to shoot myself in the leg fumbling around for some keys or change. Am I crazy? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/1Vt0gWk

Iwb mag carrier suggestions

Looking for suggestions/reviews for tuckable iwb mag carriers.I need to conceal well at work in business dress (business casual... a blazer would stand out) and currently carry a 43 in a crossbreed appendix. I carry an extra mag in an old Gerber pouch in my pocket but I'm looking for something different. I think I would prefer a metal clip that would slide over my pants and behind the belt. So what do you recommend, CCW? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/280UHmO

Carry Condition for Colt Mustang Pocketlite

New to this sub and hoping to glean some insight from fellow CCWers. I recently replaced my Glock 42 with the much more reliable Colt Mustang Pocketlite. This is my first SA handgun and I was wondering what's the "best" and safest way to carry.Condition 3: Nothing in the chamber. Hammer down. I would need to rack the slide to fire. Seems safest.Condition 2: Chamber is hot. Hammer is down. Requires some maneuvering on my part to slowly let the hammer down with firing. I would have to cock the hammer to fire. Seems hardest to maintain and I found that pulling back the hammer on such a small firearm makes me pull it to the right.Condition 1: Chamber is hot. Hammer is back. Thumb safety is engaged. This method is what many prefer to carry a 1911 on. However, I worry about carrying my Mustang this way due to the single safety. 1911 has grip and thumb. Mustang only has thumb.Thoughts on these? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/1PfINPT

Best IWB Holster for 3'oclock/Hip Carry?

Hey everyone,Was hoping to get some advice here. I recently purchased an XDS 4.0" and Alien Gear Cloak Tuck IWB holster. While the holster does it's job, I'm just not liking the 4:30 position. Unfortunately, as a slimmer guy that wears slimmer clothes, 3'oclock isn't much of an option with this particular holster because it's so wide.I used to run a bulgarian makarov in a minimal Desantis Insider IWB that I wore at 3oclock without issue. Starting to regret getting rid of that gun, but I digress...I just found the Desantis Slim-Tuk and it looks perfect but they're on backorder.Any other suggestions? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/25v6VC4

Kahr p380 vs Sig p938 pocket carry

I won't be able to do a live comparison in a gun store for a while, so I thought I would see if any of you can weigh in on the concealability of these two guns. The specs state the slide width of the Kahr to be .75'', whereas the overall width of the Sig is 1.1'' I'm not sure if the grip of the Kahr is much wider than the slide width, since in video comparisons, there doesn't seem to be much difference in width between the two guns. Can anyone weigh in on whether there is a significant difference in ability to conceal with a pocket holster? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/1sXTEUY

Heard this little gem while shopping for ammo at my local Cabela's.

I mosy on over to the ammo section and there's a store employee helping a seemingly new-to-firearms type of guy right in front of the 9mm section, which is what I need, so I stand to the side of them and wait for them to wrap it up. At first he was just giving your general brand recommendations but the last bit is what caught my ear. He told the guy "You always want to keep two FMJs at the bottom of your clips, you never know when you're going to need to penetrate a barrier or somethin', and a hollow point will not do it."Now, I'm pretty new to firearms myself but this sounded pretty funny to me and I thought you guys might get a kick out of it. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/1TThlHV

Did my first IDPA tournament

I know that some poo poo the IDPA as not really training for CCW, and I agree to some extent. But it is a chance to go out and move and shoot and just have a lot of fun.Everyone there was really nice and helpful. I scored in the bottom of my class but, heck, I was glad to just not get myself disqualified :)The very first stage they were yelling at me constantly because I was violating the rules, but after that very little.I missed one target completely in one stage; I completely forgot it was there. But all the rest of them I nailed. One of the other competitors said "You shoot really well, when you hit them", which was very encouraging. My wife went with me but just watched. She is going to compete next time. They have practice nights we will go to some of those. It was a ton of fun. Lot better than just standing and shooting at a paper target in a range. I highly recommend. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/25uvnnh

Storing a gun in a state where your CCW is not recognized.

So quick question I have after seeing another post here about storing a gun in the car. My wife and I are taking a road trip back to my home state. Now every state that I am traveling through recognizes my permit, with the exception of our destination state. So since I can't carry in that state, and keeping in the car is a bad idea, what are my options? Do I just not take the gun at all? Or risk keeping it in the car? In the hotel? Ideas about always storing a gun in the car

First off I am an Ohio Resident CCW licensees (for a few months now) living near downtown Columbus in a primary college campus area with a pretty bad crime rate for my liking.I am considering always keeping a gun in the car for the times that quick access to a weapon is needed, like an under steering column holster, for the times I've either unholstered in the car for some reason or am not carrying that day at all. It's very impractical to carry a gun to my car when I'm wearing basketball shorts or something similar and have no way holster it on myself. Yes it's just laziness but it's also inconvenient to carry a gun to the car in a hand just to be placed in the glove box where it won't have quick access. So with this situation in mind what's the general opinion on: 1) always keeping a gun in the car, not plain sight, but in a car parked on a street 2) where's a good place to mount a holster and any suggestions on a model? 3) how does the law work if a friend is driving my car and I'm in it. Is it still legal for a loaded gun to be in the car where the owner (and passenger) is licensed but the driver himself is not. (i.e. The designated driver for the night or long road trips)Thanks in advance! via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/1VoWKfm

Carrying in the Rain

I am very new to carry, being licensed recently. Yesterday, I carried my Walther PPS M2 to a popular auto junkyard in order to help a friend find some parts for his old car. This junkyard, the name which I will not specify, has a large sign that prohibits firearms on the premises. Thanks to Florida law, I can carry anyway with only worry of the trespass warning or being spotted. That being said, I really put my concealed kit to the test. While working in the junkyard, reaching in all different angles while working on the car, it began to rain. After about an hour of being in the rain, with no ability to adjust my kit, my shirt became drenched and very formfitting. I became worried that I would print because the shirt was hugging my side so much. I was carrying in a Galco underwraps belly band holster, and the slim profile of my Walther fit very well on my side. The bottom of my shirt was hugging my waist very tight and it was outlining everything on my waist, including my belt, pocket knife and pocket flashlight. I have no doubt in my mind that if I had been carrying in an inside the waistband holster, it would've been very obvious to spot.Thankfully, I had worn a baggy dark shirt that is not see through when wet and had a pattern which helped disguise the outline of my firearm. Nobody spotted me, and it built a lot of faith in my carry set up (My Walther got a good cleaning when home!). The Walther PPS M2 disappears well in my chosen holster. I like the belly band holster's versatility to slide the setup down to become a waistband holster, or keep it higher on my belly. You don't need pants with a belt, and it keeps the gun very close to your body for great concealment. Also, in the restroom, your holster stays on your side instead of around your ankles. Only downside is that it is a bit uncomfortable. So far, I've found it to be bearable in the Florida heat. It allows me to wear shorts and a t-shirt.Having researched carrying for months if not years, I had never even considered the possibility of carrying in the rain, and how it would affect my carry setup. My reason for sharing is to bring attention to carrying in the rain. If wet, will the garments that are concealing your firearm remain rigid enough to avoid printing? Will they be formfitting? Will they be see-through? These are all questions that I had not considered, but will definitely keep in mind in the future. I could've avoided the entire post by remembering my rain jacket, but it was a good learning experience for me. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/1TPsMPq

Work carry, regardless of policy

How many of you guys carry even though your work policy states you may not? Does the benefit of being prepared outweigh the consequences of possible termination? Adopting and CCW

My wife and I are in the earliest stages of the adoption process, and while I realize that having a child of your own or adopting a newborn would ease the process of raising a child around weapons, I began to wonder. As we look into adopting an older child (figure around 5 years old), how would I go about bringing a child into a home with guns? I won't have any idea what past experiences they might've had with them, and that's a whole separate issue, a bridge I'll cross at another time if I must. What about you? Anyone out there already adopt a child and acclimate them? Were there issues? Advice? Thanks. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/1TNLCGD

When to fire, in a non-threatening confrontation - mind experiment

This is a hypothetical question intended to explore the limits of when you draw and fire your weapon. Here's the scenario:You are in a public, but secluded place where someone you don't know approaches you. You warn them to keep their distance, but they continue to approach. They are not acting in any way that is overtly threatening. They haven't said anything to you, or made any action to draw a weapon (none is visible). They are looking at you, and clearly hear what you are saying (this is a theoretical situation, so let's just say that they make some kind of indication that they hear and understand you, just so we can eliminate the obvious "what if they are just deaf or foreign" reply). Let's also say that you are in a place where you can't retreat any further or simply walk/run away.At what point do you draw your weapon? At what point would you fire your weapon at someone who is simply continuing to calmly, deliberately approach you despite your telling them not to? They are not holding any obvious weapon that you can see. They are not threatening you directly. Would you really just shoot them? There is a point where a person would be too close for you to be able to successfully draw and defend yourself. So you want to draw before that point, obviously. And yet, there is something... weird... about the thought of shooting someone who hasn't actually attacked, or made any overt threat. They are just continuing to approach. This in itself could be seen as a threat, but do you get what I mean when I say it would seem weird to shoot them for that?Drawing a gun on someone is a serious thing to do. Most people say you shouldn't draw unless you are feeling like your life (or someone else's life) is in imminent danger. So, this is about where do you draw that line. In this mind experiment you're not in obvious, imminent danger, there's been no overt threat, and yet this stranger continues to approach you. So do you draw and shoot a person just for approaching you?Why do I ask? Predators are good at making their prey feel non-threatened until it's too late. I have seen videos of attacks where the attack doesn't happen until the attacker is too close for the victim to really do anything. I would assume that in a real world situation, a person who is intent on doing you harm wouldn't be broadcasting it in obvious body language. They would be trying to get close without raising suspicion, until it's too late.So what do you do?Before you say "Yes, I shoot them", consider what you're saying. A person is simply walking toward you, no sign of a threat, but they are ignoring your commands to stay back. So you kill them. Does that seem right? At the same time, consider the "do nothing" answer: The person is then able to get close enough to completely negate your gun. This seems equally ludicrous and wrong. It's kind of messing with my head, and I wonder if you guys can help me out with reasoning how to handle such a situation. Hope it's not a stupid question, I think about scenarios in my head when taking a shower, when would I draw, when would I shoot, etc. This was one that kind of stumps me. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/1qTIcb4

After a request, my Beltman gunbelt. Belt comparison images included

Please read before clicking the link! Are you still reading?Good.Howdy. I'm Feral. How are you? Good I hope. I'm great myself because my EDC was just improved a great deal. I've been carrying for a few years now. I almost always carry OWB openly carry, therefore I need a belt with excellent support. You may be asking, "But what does open carry have to do with conceal carry in regards to a belt?" A lot! When I conceal carry I want to comfortably carry my hefty SIG P250c. I want it as comfortable as my open carry rig. That requires a strong belt to take that weight. Now I've been using a nice hand crafted gun belt for a few years now. But it did not have an internal stiffener. It is included in the album coming up. After it started to soften I looked into the Beltman and a belt with an internal stiffener. I ponied up the money and made my choice. My waist size is a 30, based upon the guidelines I ordered a 35. I was given the option of 5 or 7 holes. I chose 7. And most importantly, I wanted the internal stiffener. It is a 1.5 inch bullhide belt.Every picture is the same pistol (SIG P250c) and OWB holster. Each belt is looped to the same hole I use. They are all genuine leather. The first image is the Beltman. It speaks for itself. It is supporting that weight like a champ. The second image is my old gun belt. It's trying its hardest but it just can't hold up the gun. This made me have to tighten the belt more to support that weight. The third is your off the shelf genuine leather dress belt. It's so embarrassing it almost needs a NSFW tag. (Mods?)And finally a nice glamour shot of the Beltman belt. Here we are!I don't speak highly of many things, but I love this belt. I'll definitely be adding another to my wardrobe.TLDR: Images. Beltman holds firm in first images. Old gun belt sags in the second. Off the shelf dress belt is a limp noodle in the third. Also paging /u/JTswift via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/20PSe9j

Florida Stand Your Ground question

I finally took my CCW course today and the instructor said the FL Stand Your Ground law is not applicable anymore, is this true? He said in Florida, you have to retreat or make an effort to retreat. This is the first time I’ve heard of this. I always thought FL was a stand your ground state. I mean, if you can’t stand your ground, what’s the point of having your CCW?The whole course was 3 hours long and I didn’t feel like I learned anything. He went over the laws of what not to do but I feel like I’ve learned more from this subreddit. After all the laws and classroom work, we each shot 2 rounds into a target 5 yards away. I left a little disappointed. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/1UchoKH

Wondering what Wyoming's laws are about keeping a loaded pistol in a car. I'm traveling there but my MN CCW permit isn't recognized by Wyoming.

I was looking for an answer on an official Wyoming website but wasn't able to find it – even while searching their statutes. I prefer to have it loaded and in a locked case in my car or have it loaded and in my glove compartment considering I can't carry concealed. Would like to know if either are legal.handgunlaw.us (wy) says:RV/Car Carry Without a Permit/LicenseNon Residents of Wyoming must have a Valid Permit License to Carry that Wyoming honors to carry a concealed handgun in a vehicle. Anyone who can legally own a firearm can carry a loaded handgun anywhere inside a vehicle as long as it is not concealed on your person and is visible. Wyoming law only covers the concealed carry of a defensive firearm in a vehicle. Wyoming Residents who can legally own a firearm can carry it concealed on their person in a vehicle without any type of permit/license. Wyoming Residents who can legally own a firearm can carry it concealed on their person anywhere that someone who has been issued a permit/license to carry in Wyoming can carry. This is the Permitless Carry Law passed recently but this law only applies to residents of Wyoming. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/1RAUKKl

Self defense against 12-year-olds?

There are some kids in my neighborhood who have been causing trouble. One stole a car a few weeks ago and crashed into a bunch of stuff, but because he's so young, he got out with no punishment. Lately he's been speeding up and down my street in another stolen car, broken into several homes, thrown bricks at peoples' windows, and peppersprayed a neighbor before hitting him with a metal bar. The kid's mom cried and begged the officers to take him to jail, but the officers told her that he is her problem and they can't do anything. If the cops won't do anything, is there anything I can do to defend myself and my property without getting in trouble? Could I pepperspray them back, for example?

Map of boundary lines?

I'm a student at University of Louisville, recently started carrying. No campus carry here sadly. You're allowed to leave your gun in your car even if it's on school property, but obviously I can't carry my gun on campus. My question is, is there a place I can easily look up the legal lines that I can't cross while I'm CCWing? Question on CCW Non-Resident Process for Arizona and Florida

Hey ya'll, recently attended a gun show and received the packets for Arizona and Florida to send off to get my permits from those respective states. My question is the fingerprints: the instructor stated it's better to do a LiveScan set of prints instead of ink to send in with the packet but how exactly does this work if the states require you to do them with law enforcement? Florida specifically lists their sheriffs for submittal of digital fingerprints but would they accept anything from any other law enforcement agency or even the local post office? Road to Concealed Carry Part 3 - M&P Shield's first ~285 rounds

Hello again /r/ccw, this is the third installment of my "Road to CCW" series where I record beginning my journey of carrying a concealed pistol. You can find my first post here, and my second post here.At the end of my second post I made it pretty clear that I had decided on the Shield. So last Sunday I went out to my local gun shop and picked it up.Here is the obligatory "glamour shot", taken immediately after cleaning it for the first time. Unfortunately not pictured is my Pearce Grip extension that I immediately went out to Amazon and ordered. I did get the grip in time for the first range trip though. I find the Pearce Grip extension necessary to get a decent grip on the gun.The thing I love about the Shield is how great it feels in my hand. I am extremely comfortable holding it and manipulating the trigger, mag release and slide stop. One thing I did run into is the magazine's don't seem to want to seat. I have to really angle them right and not-quite-slam them into the grip in order for them to seat properly. It's probably user error, but I feel I've heard others talk about this before as well. I will have to spend some time practicing and making sure I can properly seat the magazine on the first try every time.Speaking of practicing, I have a lot of that to do. As can be seen by the targets from my range trip.By using this graphic as a reference, I seem to have a tendency to do the following while shooting:a) Jerking the triggerandb) Pushing forwardI know I have a flinch, but have as of yet been unable to overcome it. I will have to work on that. What is most frustrating for me is that I appear to be able to hit the target, but cannot group my shots consistently. There's a couple handgun and self defense classes coming up that I am planning to sign up for. In the mean time I'll be doing dry fire practice and logging as much range time as possible. To be honest I'm not yet comfortable enough in my shooting ability to say I am capable of carrying. I'm not sure what other standards people hold themselves to, but I'd like to be able to shoot 4 inch groups at 7 yards consistently.Of course there are additional milestones I'd like to reach, including a draw and fire time under two seconds, placing shots on multiple targets given a certain time frame, 4 inch groups at 10 yards, 15 yards, 20 yards, firing from cover, etc, etc.Baby steps. If anyone has any additional advice I would appreciate all the help I can get. Right now my focus is on improving my accuracy.I'm looking pretty seriously and a G-Code Incog Eclipse (with the standard mojo) and a 5.11 1.75" belt to complete my edc "system".Thanks again /r/ccw... it'll probably be a while before I post again... but the next milestones will be:ClassesHitting my 4 inch groups @ 7 yards goalHoslter & BeltCarryEDIT: Completely forgot the most important thing to mention: the Shield performed flawlessly. Narry a hiccup when it came to firing. I shot some old crappy ammo that ~2-3 years old that I had purchased during the "ammo crises" a couple years ago, back when finding decent federal or winchester boxes was a pipe dream. I also shot 2 100 round boxes of winchester 115gr FMJ range ammo. No issues at all. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/1sDn75Y

Recommendations for first handgun

I know this question has been asked hundreds of times and every person is different for what works for them but I’m just looking for some suggestions. My father is wondering what handgun to get. I personally have a Sig P320 Carry and I really like it. My dads job sometimes takes him into less desirable neighborhoods and he’s in his 60s so not exactly youthful anymore. He owns an A/C company so conceal carrying anything all day would be pretty difficult since he’s constantly doing physical work.I’m trying to steer him towards a Sig 938 but I’m wondering what others might think. I know a lot of people on here like the M&P Shield so that’s also another option. A Glock 19 is not an option. Thanks for any input via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/1NTmS0z

StealthGear Onyx - 3:00 Cant Challenge

My body shape truly prevents me from wearing IWB anywhere but 3:00. Outside this area and the grip is protruding severely regardless of clip settings. So I've come to the realistic conclusion that my only option is 3:00. My challenge is that the cant at this position seemingly makes it difficult for me to draw given that my pulling up against the cant almost feels like it's locked in there, versus my pulling with the cant. With the cant at this position is very uncomfortable to me and my wrist.Yet I run into an issues when I try to remedy this problem. When I place one clip at the lowest hole and the other clip at the highest hole to reduce the cant angle as much as possible for this holster, there is much more pistol exposed above the belt line that this promotes even more printing given my "extra love, love handles."The second is even with a matching deep conceal clip setting, placing the holster beyond 3:00 to make the cant work for me, doesn't seem to help either. I cannot wear awb given my body shape. Is there any other suggestion to address my problem? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/1sDna1A
