I'm new to this, having moved to a constitutional carry state for the first time recently, and I've been wondering. I still have a lot of family and friends who live in much more restrictive states. What do y'all do when traveling to states with strict firearm laws?By "strict" I'm curious across the whole spectrum from minor inconvenience to basically no right to carry a firearm for a non-resident visitor (like CA/NY).If you plan on visiting a place regularly (taking care of elderly family, for example) where your current permit does not have reciprocity, but a non-resident permit is available, is it worth doing? How big of a hassle is it to get non-resident permits in general? If a non-resident permit or reciprocity is available, but the state imposes its own requirements on magazine capacity different from your home state, does that become an issue? Do you need to buy new state-compliant magazines, or can you do a partial load or temporary conversion with magazines you already own to comply as a visitor? If no permit is available and there is no way for you to legally carry in your destination, what do you do? If staying with family, for example, and if you are legally allowed to possess and transport your firearm, would you bring it with you for home defense use even if not allowed to carry it outside the home? Or just not bother? For concealed carry in public in restrictive jurisdictions, what other self-defense tools do you replace a firearm with when not legally allowed to carry one? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/cafuGFv
