Any way to defend against bites?

I'm working as a Social carer. I'm taking care of people with special needs. Some of them can be aggressive and some of those tend to bite. So, is there a way to like interupt the bite when their teeth are stuck in my leg, without beating them? I've never been bitten though, I know how to keep my distance ^{^}
