Do you think wearing boots makes you look more powerful than regular shoes?

Last year, I took a couple of "vacations" where I didn't really stay anywhere for most nights, to the Los Angeles area (roughly 8 days each). The first time I wore regular shoes, there were several instances of people being threatening, half were direct half were more borderline. The second time, when I wore boots, there were none. I don't know whether to think it was all coincidence or not.
