Question for Wisconsin Concealed Carry.

Hey Reddit, I may be moving to Wisconsin for work here in a few months and I have a few questions about the state's laws about gun ownership and concealed carry. Currently I live in the people's republic of Maryland, where the laws are what if call more restrictive. It's rare to be able to get a concealed carry for non-military, Non-police individuals. We also have an "assault rifle ban" for numerous firearms. Looking online I've found conflicting statements on various sites about Wisconsin and open carry as well as concealed carry and was wondering if anyone had up to date information. Cheers! via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2esSTkS

Concealment express holsters

Has anyone on here had any experience with IWB kydex holsters from concealment express? I have the AlienGear AIWB from my shapeshift starter kit but I think it is a little too bulky for EDC so I have been looking into cost effective kydex holsters. $35-40 seems reasonable but thought I would check with the experts here.Edit: More specifically, are there issues with comfort or how well it conceals? Or any quality issues to be aware of? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2wMvvG6

Carry While Backpacking

I just moved to Utah last week, and I'm already planning backpacking trips.I'm going to carry a G20 OWB most likely (I know this is CCW), but does anyone have any good ideas that won't totally be in the way with a big pack and big ass Glock?Any advice would be appreciated via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2xB1arQ

NDs during self defense shooting?

I'm looking for information about negligent/accidental discharges during or immediately following self defense situations.I'm not sure there's even really data on it out there. Do you guys take the possibility of compromised trigger control after an encounter specifically in to account? And is there anything in particular you should do to train against that? Just simple reholstering during drills? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2vMObkJ

Denver downtown Sheraton - posted or not?

In the near future I'm going to a convention at the downtown Denver Sheraton. The convention organizers insist on a no-weapons policy. Officially due to costume prop safety but explicitly extended to licensed concealed carry as well. They also claim authority to ban weapons everywhere on the hotel property. Everywhere! Including guest rooms. It's a disturbing trend among sci-fi conventions recently to make such extravagant claims, but I doubt the legality. When moving as directly as possible from my car to my room and back for the purpose of check in / check out / going to dinner I'm not actively participating in convention activities. So it's none of their business during those limited times. Also they have no authority over other hotel guests who didn't ask to be part of the convention. So the in-room weapons ban is bogus. Here's the problem. They claim it's as per hotel policy. This is documented nowhere on any of the Sheraton web sites, trip advisor reviews, or any hotel booking site I've looked at. Sheraton in Texas, yes, official info says no weapons. But nothing about Denver. Found some close up pics of the main entrance on trip advisor; didn't appear to be posted in any way at all. No proper signage, nothing in the pre-booking info. But maybe I missed something. So, anyone who's been there recently: Denver downtown Sheraton, posted or not?(Note: I'm not going to cancel the room or our tickets for the convention. That is my call to make, not anyone else's. But I would like to have reasonable self defense options while out for dinner in downtown Denver. Seriously, I'd say 16th street mall is a freaking zoo, but that would be unfair to actual zoological gardens.) via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2vN3Tw3

How can I carry while carrying a baby in a baby carrier?

I'm a 5' 4" female, looking for a good way to carry either a G43 or G19 while carrying my baby in one of these carriers. You'll note that there's a big strap that goes around my waist, plus a baby right in front of me, so anything on my hip (strong side, AIWB) is somewhat difficult.Any suggestions?? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2xa4dJC

Traveling with MI CPL

I'll be going to Las Vegas this weekend. I've already done a little research on laws regarding concealed carry in NV. NV reciprocates MI CPL, so no issue there. My question is this: Casinos are included in the gun-free zone list in MI, but it is legal to carry concealed in a casino in NV. Should I abide by my state law regarding GFZs or can I abide by the law in the state that I will be in (NV)? Any insight would be appreciated. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2eHlMa8

Best way to carry for a lady?

I'll be 21 soon and I plan to get my permit (PA). I feel like I have everything planned, but I'm not exactly sure what the best way to carry would be. I tend to wear tighter clothes, but I also will start wearing jackets as the weather gets cooler. Any suggestions? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2gsF6LP

Appendix Carry Holster, Walther PPS

Anyone have a good, low profile appendix holster for a Walther PPS?I've bought and tried a Black Arch with the adjustable ride and cant, but the damn thing is too thick and prints like hell in anything other than a jacket or sweatshirt. I recently switched to a Clinger Stingray, which ended up being more low profile, but the top cut of the holster rides high and makes bending over difficult. To be fair I'm 5'6" and 145lbs so im not huge by any means. Anyone got any suggestions on anything else to try? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2xOoz8j

Gun vs knife

Would you have a better chance drawing a knife on a gun as apposed to a gun on a gun, Because in a gun fight u have 50-50 chance of winning, If you draw a knife on them, They'll probably retreat for these reasons: -they arent looking to kill someone, only to rob someone, -if they kill a innocent person they'll likely be found and put in prison for life, -If you draw a knife on them, they'll probably yell at you to drop the knife, and if you dont drop it, just keep pointing it at them, theyll just run off instead of killing you. -if you draw a gun on them, it is a much greater threat and they'll shoot you to save their own asp.

Legality of maliciously outing a CCW holder

Is it illegal to out someone as a CPL holder with the intent to harm their reputation, employment status...etc? I'm not talking about accidentally letting something slip in casual conversation. Not sure where to even look for information on this, but it might be something I need in the not so distant future.I live in TN if that matters. On a related note, I feel like I have been careful about who I have told about my CPL, but I can't help but wonder if I could have done better in this particular instance. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2eGFAdM

Why aren't DA/SA compact pistols more popular?

It seems that DAO striker-fire pistols are the way everyone is going these days for a concealed carry. Why is this the case? Are they safer? More reliable? Easier to carry? Or is it totally personal preference? I would think that I'd want a quick follow-up trigger pull in a life or death situation, but I have a feeling I'm missing something!EDIT: Forgot about the Sig P938. I know that's a popular choice. Despite this, it still seems that DAO striker fire pistols have a firm hold on the concealed carry market. Could be just a trend I suppose though. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2wj9lKE

Need advice for finding a holster

Long story short, I acquired a gorgeous Colt Agent in .38 spl recently, and I'm looking to make it my carry gun for school. However, I'm having difficulty finding holsters specifically made for it. I'm looking for either an IWB with a retention strap on the top, or a proper sized pocket holster for it, as it's too heavy for a belly band, and I'm way too paranoid about my ankle holster showing. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2griVWz

FNS vs M&P

I own an FNS .40 more for winter carry/a home gun already but am thinking about selling that off and getting a M&P 9 full size. Was wondering if y'all had any thoughts on if I should hold on to the FNS or get the M&P. I have a M&P compact 9 and a shield 9 already so was just thinking uniformity might be beneficial too. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2wjbMNw

Might be a dumb question, forgive me I'm new. I ordered a box of 147 HST as my carry ammo, but notice several imperfections/marks on the casings. Completely normal?

Pocket Carry for Monster Hands?

I posted another thread about my unique carry challenges, and some of the feedback (thanks to those that replied, btw) suggested that I consider a pocket carry gun, and to start a new post on that topic.I hadn't previously thought about a smaller pocket pistol, mostly because I have monster hands: 8.5 inches from end of the middle finger to base of palm, and 10 inches from thumb to pinky with my hand spread. Think dinner plates. I have a frame to match those hands, if that helps.I know there's no substitute for actually getting a weapon in my hands, but I'd like to hear some more of the things I should be thinking about. The TLDR for the original thread is because of a combination of teaching at a high school, teaching at a university, and bartending at a bar, I need something highly concealable, that can be easily transferred among on-body carry, off-body carry, and lockbox. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2vF7Q6W

Durham, NC - any recent CCW permit experience?

Hi guys, Back in early April, I went to the Durham, NC sheriff's office to submit my paperwork for my carry permit. I understand that it can take a while for all of the medical records to be gathered but I'm now approaching 5 months and still nothing in the mail. Has anyone received their CCW permit recently from Durham county? Past threads have indicated that they are quite poor about handing out permits in a timely manner but I was hoping to hear about more recent experiences. Thanks! via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2wiwug9

When is it legal to use a taser?

Reposting with the situation removed since I did get some useful information but no real answer to my question.

When is it legal to use a taser (in a state that allows them)? When is it considered unnecessary force? All I can find is information on when LEO can use them.

Another almost DGU (Dog).

Hi all,  My previous submission here was a near DGU incident with a dog, so I apoligize for the redundency. I will try to keep it short. Walking at dusk with wife and dog. Wife is holding dog.. Adult Rotweiler rushed out of yard, across street, and tried to flank around/behind us to get to our dog. . I heard its claws on the pavement, spun and drew, wife yelled and briskly walked away.. I yelled while backpeddling, nearly tripped, wife kept retreating. Dog began to growl and kept approaching. I continued to backpedal and yell "go home" and it finally walked back into it's yard. . Takeaways:. Positive . My draw was very fast. I have been practicing, but not enough from concealment, however the gun came out before I even thought about it, and I didn't fumble. . No one ran, and I didn't fall over. . I was carrying a VP9, and felt somewhat safe with a fullsize and 15 rds. However I would have preferred a 10mm, I fet more safe than with my p2000sk in the last situation. I didn't hesitate and was assertive. . Negative . I need more training.. I need to practice walking and keeping my gun aimed. Also need to work on walking while not looking, tripping and falling would have been very bad. . I need to carry mace. I love dogs, and it would have been heartbreaking to shoot a beautiful dog defending its property. Also, due to an uphill slope, the backstop was a house and I don't want to think about that.. I couldn't find the sights. I had tunnel vision on the dog. I had a good grip and was on target (I think) but I need more training to practice acquiring sights under stress.. I need to practice shooting 1 handed, in case something like this happens while I am alone. . Thanks for listening! via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2wSu7lP

How to find out when I'm legally allowed to tase someone in my state?

I can't find anything on this except articles about LEO.

I live in VT, conceal carry is legal here (firearms and tasers) without a license. I don't think tasers require a license either, guns don't.

Are you allowed to tase someone who's threatening you? Just flipping out in public in general and acting like they're going to get violent? What are the laws, exactly? I was in a pharmacy earlier and some crackhead was going berserk wanting drugs. If I had a taser on me I would've tased him. Cops ended up coming and taking care of it. In the minutes before the cops came I was having to weigh whether or not I should tackle the guy, who was twice my size and not remotely sober, before he decided he was going to hurt someone. Fortunately, he didn't. But what if?

Part of me wants a taser because guns make me a little nervous, I'd worry about hurting myself or an innocent bystander. Another part of me feels that I would be more likely to use a taser inappropriately and improperly assess a situation, and get in enormous trouble, whereas I would only use a gun if absolutely necessary.

I do know I don't want to feel helpless like that again.

Only been carrying for a few years. Found the BEST weapon for concealed carry.

Situational awareness.I can't count the number of times that swallowing my pride led to de-escalation of conflicts, albeit extremely small ones. Or how even completely avoiding some places known for rowdy crowds led to a more uneventful, trouble-free life.At the end of the day, when compared to potentially losing your life, a lot of things are not worth it. Confronting someone, going to an extremely bad area just for good food, etc... It's just not worth it.The reason why I'm inclined to write this post is because what happened yesterday. At a Barnes and Nobles no less. I guess somebody decided to get up to use the restroom, and another person took his seat while moving all of his stuff to the floor. Guy comes back, becomes extremely angry. Starts a bit of a ruckus when I realized that he was carrying IWB. Anyways, the ccw guy threatens the other person saying "let's take it outside." Barnes and Nobles security had to break it up and kicked out the licensed CCW person after a long conversation and the CCW person claiming that he was "vetted by the Sheriff's department with his license and considered a good guy."I'm glad I carry. However, I realized that carrying gave me the capacity to judge different situations and read people and react accordingly. On a day to day basis, that is what I use the most and what pays off as opposed to the firearm that I carry. Also, don't be a dick. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2wHw0kZ

Where do you keep your carry gun while asleep?

I have a SnapSafe in my nightstand in which I keep one of my larger handguns for home defense purposes. I have Pelican cases locked under my bed where I keep my other guns. But I am wondering what to do with my carry gun. I've been unloading it, putting in it's Pelican, and pulling it out and reloading it in the morning. Is this you folks normal way of doing it? Another pulled over while carrying - TLDR; positive experience

I was driving to work and pulled over by my local agency (medium sized city). I was alarmed when it involved not one car, but two police cars. So when the first officer approached my window, I was a little bit nervous since I hadn't been speeding or otherwise.Normally my gun is concealed and I place my wallet in the cupholders specifically so I don't need to reach behind me to get to it in the event I get pulled over. This day was an exception. In this case I was in a hurry, so I left the wallet in my back pocket when I had gotten in my car earlier. I was also open carrying because I was heading to my part time job where open carrying is encouraged. I informed the officer that I was carrying a firearm - the Sergeant from the second vehicle approached my passenger window. She asked for my drivers license and carry permit. I let the first officer know my wallet was in my back pocket and asked her if she preferred me to exit the vehicle to remove my wallet. She told me that it wasn't necessary so I let her know that I was unbuckling my seatbelt to get to my back pocket and then did it slowly. After providing all of my information, she informed me that my license plate was not registered in their system. Turns out, I renewed my license plate online and for some reason DMV deleted the plates prior to mailing my new ones. I showed her the DMV receipt on my phone and a copy of my registration confirming my current plate was valid. So all things considered. Two cars pulling me over for a license plate that didn't even exist in their system - for them, it could have been a stolen vehicle running on fake plates etc. Here I am dressed in all black (work uniform), with an open firearm, and needing to reach around my back pocket to get my wallet. My particular city is not open carry friendly and you actually need a permit to open carry, which I do have. The entire time, the officer was alert but not jumpy, and very respectful. She informed me the issue with my plate, noting it was a DMV issue, thanked me for cooperating, and never batted an eye about the firearm. Very positive experience considering the circumstances. I did contact DMV and gave them and earful though. I also contacted the agency to compliment the interaction with the officer.TLDR; pulled over, open carrying. Officer was polite and composed. Always communicate what you're doing, ask for permission before reaching for anything, and be respectful. If you can, keep your wallet out of your pocket - it's uncomfortable to sit on and reaching across your gun isn't ideal for you or the officer involved. Lastly, if the officer does a good job please contact their agency and let them know. Those show up on their reviews! via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2wf8SZS

(Im)perfect Storm

I would like to begin carrying concealed, but I find myself in a very complicated situation. The primary barrier is financial: I just don't have sufficient disposable income to justify purchasing a weapon and the necessary accessories, ammo, range time, etc. Even assuming that I get that figured out, though, my lifestyle makes being a CCW carrier tricky, to say the least.I don't want to get terribly specific, but my situation is unique enough that I'm sure someone who's interested enough would be able to recognize me, so I'll just lay it out. I live in Kansas, which has constitutional carry, including (as of this July) college campuses. My combination of jobs requires me to travel to 2 different university campuses (one for teaching and one for [less frequent] administrative meetings), a public high school (for teaching), and a bar (for bartending). To complicate matters further, I am a regular (but not exclusive) bicycle commuter, so there is every combination of travel between university-high school-bar in both my motor vehicle and on my bicycle. Carrying on the university seems okay, the HS is a definite no, and carrying at the bar is a maybe (I haven't broached the subject to that boss, yet). What are some solutions to this and/or pitfalls I'm not seeing to becoming a CCW carrier with these complications? Can I leave my weapon locked in a car on a high school parking lot? What about parked a block away? Does disassembling my weapon and wrapping it up in a shoulder bag while biking and/or consuming alcohol matter at all? What options do I have here, if any? I'd prefer to retain a lawyer specialized in this stuff for my jurisdiction, but that is prohibitively expensive, as well.If it helps, I completed the required CCW training in Texas (but never applied for a license), I am an army vet, but have no relevant training there (rifle only), and have spent very little time on the range with a pistol. As for weapons and accessories are concerned, I'm prioritizing (fantasizing at this point, really) concealability and ease of off-body carry transfer. I don't care how well my big frame hides a sub-compact, spending a few hours at a stretch with dozens of people focused on me makes any kind of printing unacceptable. My preference would be a 9mm-ish SA/DA decocker-only. The Beretta PX4 Storm G compact/sub-compact has me the most interested, currently, but again, this is a bit of a pipe dream, at this point.I feel a bit stifled and lost right now, so any advice is appreciated. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2xJwXWU

Duty to Inform - Texas

I had personal property stolen and called the police to file a report of theft. The duty officer responded and I met him at the location of the crime and filed a report regarding my property that was stolen.Only AFTER this encounter ended did I realize the officer had asked for my drivers license to include in the report I was filing. As Texas is a "duty to inform" state, was I in violation of the law to not disclose to the officer at that time (when he asked for my drivers license) that I had a license to carry a firearm and to provide my LTC card?At the time, it didn't cross my mind since I was reporting a theft and was not asked for the license regarding any criminal activity (by me).I just don't know and the Texas code didn't seem to make it clear, (or I was unable to find it).Thank you for reading and stay safe. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2vAdjMn

Footwork VS sprinting and Utilizing Straight charging Footwork VS positioning into blind angles

Found this post.

http://ift.tt/2wkzsPQ

With that said, I recommend everything he wrote from my days living in the ghetto and being member of a local neighborhood gang. Indeed a common response in the altercations I've been in was rather than using footwork to move on the offensive, the actual common thing was to quickly sprint and knock the person down ASAP before they were pumped up.

In addition a lot of the "footwork" that was being used in local gang brawls that I participated in was more often than not placing yourself in a blind angle and striking the person from there. Rather than going in with slippery Muhammad Ali style footwork and directly hitting the person.

Hell the quote the OP makes towards MacYoung which I will post below for purposes of this thread:

He looked at me and said "Are you ready?" Lesson number one...if, in a physical confrontation, an old fat man ever asks you if you are ready, you are going to learn a very unpleasant lesson. All of a sudden I saw a look come over him like a hood being drawn over his eyes. "It" had surfaced. In the blink of an eye, that fat old man was gone, replaced by something that was way, way out of my league.

He blurred.

I am not exaggerating when I say this old, bald headed fart turned into a cartoon streak to indicate speed. He moved so fast that I couldn't see what he was doing. Now with many more years of training and experience, I could probably see it; but at the time, he was there one second and gone the next. In that second, I felt myself being jerked to the side and his knife simultaneously crashing into a kill zone. I knew it was over. If this had been real, I would have been dead and there was nothing I could have done about it.

That was pretty much how most every brawl ended-especially if the opponent was far less skilled-where suddenly a sprinting attack came out of nowhere towards a spot the opponent was blind such as his rear or from the right while he was focusing looking forward in a la tunnel vision. The sprinting attack towards a bind angle was enough to quickly knock down someone .

I am wondering why most commercialized modern martial arts-especially sports fighting-is so insistent on moving towards your opponent in a path where they can easily see you and your attacks and that is slower than simply sprinting in track in field style running with a simultaneous attacks? This is what we used in the streets and it was the most effective first attack to use especially if your opponent hasn't pumped himself up to complete commitment.

I mean almost every MMA match I seen involves movement directly going at your opponent. Why not quickly sprint towards your enemy from left of his face while he is rushing towards you with a roundhouse which makes him so exposed? While he's charging at you in an attempt to do a takedown on you, why not simply quickly dodge his mass and go at him from behind to submit him with your own takedown?

I mean all the attempts in modern martial arts and sports fighting to go directly at your enemy seems like a needless waste of energy. I mean with how wrestlers directly charge at each other headon, back in the streets they would have reacted by moving to the side and tripping a charging opponent.

First time being stopped by a cop with my CCW.

Just happened, about 30 minutes ago. The Mrs. and I were heading back from a late night Walmart run for some last minute groceries. I saw a cop pull out in front of me, and then he slowed down, turned into a parking lot. I joked with my wife, "Watch him use this lot to get behind me." Sure enough, he did.I pulled over into a well-lit parking lot, put my truck in park, and put the keys on the dash. A young officer walked up, and we made small talk about how we were this evening. He let me know I had a headlight out, and I informed him that it does that randomly, but if I flick it off and back on, it'll pop right on (HID issue in new trucks). He asked for my license and insurance, and I said, "Yes officer, but before I reach for that, I would like to let you know that I have my concealed license, and I am carrying." "Absolutely, where is it on you?" "It's at my appendix, and I've got a revolver in my center console with my insurance." "Alright, if you'd please step out of the truck, I'd like to get your wallet for you, it's in your back pocket, correct?" "Absolutely officer."I got out, turned around, with my arms well out to my sides, so he could get my wallet, and he handed it to me. I got my licenses for him, he ran his checks with dispatch, and then he sent me on my way, not before letting me know that us "conceal carded guys are good guys, that are usually well trusted."Now, this is only my second encounter with an officer with my CHL, with the first encounter had the focus on somebody else, so it was more of a "oh, cool, thanks" and then after, we talked about our guns. I thought this situation was weird in that he retrieved my wallet for me. But, for me, whatever I can do to make the officers feel safest is what matters most.Just wanted to share my short story with an encounter with a cop, and nobody got shot! via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2xIxNmL

BUG on opposite side of main carry?

Would a BUG be better on the opposite side of your main carry in case your main carry arm is pinned/disabled/shot? Or would it be better to carry on the same side because you would be more accurate with that arm? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2vzGuPu

De-escalation training

I understand that de-escalating a potential risk can mean life or death to CCW'ers. I'm surprised to see that there is little, to no, official training on this topic. I see this as extremely important because in times of emergency you resort to the lowest form of training. Any suggestions or help with this topic? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2vFxh7y

Did anyone get the shield/single stack and wish they went with a double stack (say G19/26) instead?

I bought my shield 9 last May and have been carrying it when I can and have about 500 rounds through it. It feels nice, performs well and all that but I just can't help shake the feeling I wish I went with a Glock 19 or Glock 26. Initially I went with this single stack shield because of the rebate, and that it was thin. I have a smaller frame as a person and I figure the thin single stack would be easy to prevent printing, I realize now that the extra thickness of a double stack would hardly have any effect on my personal printing. I like the idea of having more rounds ready to go not only for self defense but for the range too. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2vn3o0k

Martial arts class with private training?

Hey y'all, this may sound a bit nuts but I was wondering if I could take a martial arts class where I train one on one with an instructor? I have performance anxiety and feel I'd do best with private training just with the instructor or a friend, but I don't even know if it's a thing?

EDIT: I ask because I've always wanted to take a martial arts, yet I suffer from a seizure disorder. They are controlled and I am on medication, yet it's not exactly recommended to get pounded on often.

The best training for self-defense.

Is it Krav Maga or cross-training Muay Thai, BJJ, and Arnis? Explain why, keep it civil.

LCP sight improvements?

I recently acquired an LCP (first generation) and absolutely love the size and weight of this pistol. My only complaint is that the sights are minimalist at best, it is incredibly difficult to accurately fire at night. Seeing as the sights are build into the slide, I'm curious if anyone has found a way to increase sight visibility. I'm unaware of any aftermarket sights, perhaps glow in the dark paint? Any experience or suggestions are appreciated! via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2vyVzAH

Regarding CCW or Open Carry At Protest events.

Don't do it.Better yet: Don't go.Putting your self into intense situations where you may have to defend yourself is dumb.Using guns to intimidate people is dumb. Open carrying at a protest has no other use except intimidation. You're not a cop, a navy seal, or Rambo. It's not your job to go confront perceived evils.Live or work in the protest zone? Avoid if possible. If not, conceal and gray man that shit. In and out. Limit your time on the street. Avoid all confrontations. If something interesting is happening, split."Its legal": Doesn't mean it's not stupid"Mah Rights": Cool. We're all about 2A rights. Taking a rifle to a racially charged event will do more harm to our 2A rights than good.Be smart. Be safe.Your brain is your primary weapon. Avoiding trouble is your first layer of defense. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2wNkkgT
