I'm a young female currently living alone in a muli-level townhouse (it takes two flights of stairs to get to the main floor which is also where my bedroom is). Although I believe a home invasion is not likely, I want to be prepared. I have no self-defense weapons, and looking to invest in one as I tend to sleep in my bedroom with the door closed, therefore I wouldn't be able to hear whether someone has broken in until they are already knocking my bedroom door down. I'm thinking of the pros and cons with each type of weapon, and can't really narrow down a logical solution. Pepperspray: I would have to allow the suspect to get 5 feet in front of me before the spray can reach him, and it would only temporarily disorient him. What am I supposed to do while the cops take 20 minutes to arrive to my place? Knife: I would have to stab the suspect to stop him from attacking me, potentially killing him, and me being liable. Gun: Too expensive, and don't want to be taken to jail for killing a suspect. Baseball bat: The suspect will be stronger than me, and can possibly take the bat out of my hands. It just seems to me that a home invasion is win-lose situation, with the victim losing unless they have a gun. Any advice?
