Tips/drills on how to raise awareness for people who feel anxiety

Brainstorming time!

Do you know any drills that help people to raise their awareness / vigilance? Any specific drills you have practiced? I am looking for mental exercises which you have practiced or you have been taught.

We are getting a number of questions on that issue. To be aware of your surroundings is indeed the cornerstone of self-defense, as it allows you to perceive danger. It's always better to see someone with bad intentions from afar than sensing his presence as they get hold of you. Right? Right.

You cannot realistically train this in a gym/dojo/training place.

The obvious goal is to try to keep your eyes open as much as possible and to pay attention to your surroundings.

Are you familiar with any specific drills on how to achieve a better state of awareness? Or how to prepare for raising your alertness?
