NY state law, University with public roads.

So I know the laws regarding bringing a firearm on school grounds. But in my city in NY state, there is a major university that sits at a junction of thruways to get between towns. Such that, to access malls and to get into the suburbs, you have to get off the thruway at the university exit and drive the large six-lane ring road that resides on the university's property around to then get onto the suburban roads.How does this correlate with school firearm laws?NY law states "A person is guilty of criminal possession of a weapon on school grounds when he or she knowingly has in his or her possession a rifle, shotgun, or firearm in or upon a building or grounds used for educational purposes, of any school, college or university.Ive been reading NY state laws, and I cant seem to find anything.
