How to deal with gang of potential attackers following you?

Hey all,

Had a weird situation tonight which has only happened to me once or twice before but I'm a little shaken and wanted to know if anyone else has successfully dealt with this before and can give any advice.

I just moved to Las Vegas recently, I was walking down the street after hours, and had a group of about 5 very big dudes just randomly step out next to me, one of them feigning punching me as I was walking by. I did not expect this at all and flinched, not knowing what was happening. The group started howling laughing, and it seemed to really get them going. I immediately heard, "HAHAHA! YEAAAAH BRUH! YOU GONNA GET IT BOY!" and the group of dudes surrounded me and started following me down the street, very close, laughing and talking about how I was scared.

Like I said, I've had this happen once or twice in the past, and I've always just tried to defuse the situation - just laughing with them and pretending like I was in on a joke or something. But these guys seemed like they were just out looking for someone to attack or intimidate for fun, and it didn't really seem to be doing much. They stopped following me after probably a full minute or so, but then they kept showing up wherever I was after that, causing a small scene and essentially repeating the same situation each time (about 3 more times after the first one).

Was thinking I'd have to call the cops for a second, but luckily I didn't see them again after the last time, and was able to make it home ok.

So yeah, has anyone had any experiences similar to this and know how to deal with it? I think I'd be able to talk my way out of a group of dudes who felt disrespected or something like that, but a group of guys who seem like they're just looking to have fun by surrounding and beating someone, I'm not sure what the protocol is in that situation.

Any advice would be much appreciated.
