5.56 vs 12GA

So this obviously isn't about concealed, but this is by far the best sub I'm familiar with for discussing defensive use of firearma in general, so I hope you'll forgive a home defense post.12GA, or any shotgun really, is the first thought peopld have when it comes to a home defense weapon. We are seeing more and more people adopt carbines, so obviously people are realizing other options can be as good, but the more I think of it, the more I think that 5.56 or similiar carbines are objectively better. The main point shotgun fans make is stopping power, but we all know shot placement is FAR more important. Across just about all types of ammo, the average hits to stop a threat is between one and two: https://ift.tt/3icA69I this, since carbines hold much more rounds (typically), they give you more chances to stop the threat, and the ability to stop more threats. Ammo is cheaper, allowing for more practice. They're much easier to shoot for inexperienced, physically weak, or disabled. They're more precise, in case you need to make a critical shot, or have an exceptionally large home. They penatrate less, decreasing risk of over penetration. The only possible objective argument I can see for shotguns is that you can likely find a bottom of the line shotgun cheaper than a bottom of the line carbine, if you really can't afford anything else. Is there something I'm missing, or are shotguns really only still relevant for home defense because of "common knowledge" that they're the best.Obviously, none of this is talking about personal preference. If you just like shotguns, there isn't an argument against that, I'm only approaching this from an objective standpoint. Handgun vs long gun is also another debate to have, but right now I'm just comparing options for long guns. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3dzbunY
