CCW (Non-Resident) Question

If I obtain a non-resident CCW permit for IL as a current resident in VA, and then move to MO, is the IL CCW permit still valid? If so, could I renew the IL non-resident permit (as a MO resident) after 5 years? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2Snlysz

Storing handguns loaded vs unloaded

I was just having this argument with my cousins I was curious with what the rest of this sub thinks. Now I haven’t owned guns for all that long but when storing mine I keep it unloaded however I understand if someone lives alone or doesn’t have younger kids around then keeping it on a nightstand is fine. They were arguing that it’s not safe to keep firearms loaded in a safe even if you do live alone. What do y’all think? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2W9p5M4

How do i behave in a knife fight? What if someone throws the knife?

So i heard from a lot of places that you should just run away if someone has a knife. You dont have to tell me twice to run away from my problems im a master in run-fu but my question is what if someone throws the knife. This situation is never been handled and it kinda fuels my anxiety.

Can I get my CWP in Va?

Hello everyone I just have successfully completed my CWP training and received my certificate. My question is regarding have you ever had mental or substance abuse treatment. if i was voluntarily hospitalized from prescribed Benzo treatment after being prescribed it for 2 years would that disqualify me. I did the program for myself with no one forcing me to do it but to better myself and seek a healthy and better life without dealing with stress and anxiety by taking an anti-anxiety medication. I went to rehab late February so it has not been 5 years prior but much recent. I’m currently more than 70 days clean and still doing programs to like AA and any programs to help support myself. What are your thoughts? Should I wait 5 years then apply or do I have a shot? I do not want to get a denial over this so why take the chance if my volunteering into bettering myself isn’t enough to be justified in getting my permit. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3aUju1v

Effects of moving states and advice with Oregon

Hi friends,I'm considering moving to the east coast in the coming months, does anyone know how that would affect a WA and possible OR CPL? Will I have to turn them into non-resident licenses or can I just keep my existing ones?ALSO, I'm a WA resident with a WA Conceal Carry License and was hoping to get one for Oregon (Oregon may-issue to neighboring states). I called a couple of the offices and got the following responses: Multinational County is not accepting but NOT approving applications for now and Polk County is just closed.Any recommendations on counties that would be open and available to WA residents? Would love some advice. Thanks, friends! via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2YkKWmr

GA Residents trying to get a permit....read this post.

It is my understanding that due to the current closures Georgian's are being denied permits because they can't go into the Sheriff's office in person. Not that I think it will really work, but you should seek a permit WITHOUT having to go into the Sheriff's office. If they'll hand out Driver's Licenses without the need for any in person activities and they are waiving existing ones, they should hand out CCW permits the same way.It may also be worth a gun rights group filing a lawsuit on this basis.EDIT: GeorgiaCarry.org already has an action related to gun permit app suspension. Hope they'll update their complaint with this information. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/35kd2Q9

Should I carry my Glock 45 or go for the 43x? (Plus solicitation for new gun owner advice.)

New gun owner here. I purchased a Glock 45 in early March before the lockdowns really took force. Since then I've put about 700 rounds through it on private land, taken online training, and I'm currently 16 days into waiting for my concealed handgun permit (shall-issue state). Since the online training was kind of trivial and lacks practical application I also signed up for an in person defensive handgun course scheduled for July once the range opens back up. I decided to apply for the CHP on a "just in case I need to leave the house with it" basis, but the more I read the more I feel like carrying daily is prudent.I purchased a Bravo Concealment IWB holster and have tried it on around the house. The grip on the 45 is so big that it seems impossible to conceal on me. I'm 5'10" and 190lbs with the dad belly. 4 o'clock seems most promising, but still difficult. I also tend to wear slimmer button up shirts at work; that feels like it's working against me, and baggy t-shirts are just not an option. I know a significant amount of this is psychological and that it probably conceals better than I think. My questions are...As a new gun owner, should I just stick with the 45 until I can put it on target in all situations? Or is the smaller sub-compact profile worth it in general and should I be shooting both? With an oval-shaped dad bod who has to look nice at work how do you recommend I carry? What training and resources do you most recommend so that I am most safe and effective? Thanks! via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2KM3VON

Continuing to find my perfect belt, belt recommendations?

Hi CCW, I've been CCing since 2017. In that time I've tried several different belts from regular leather dress belts without any stiffening to stiffened leather belts etc. I've tried High Noon leather belt, currently own a G-hook belt made with scuba webbing (MiHolsterCo) and own/use a Hank's gun belt. I've been looking at a Nexbelt because I really like the ratcheting concept but would prefer to have leather as an option. I've found I don't care for the g-hook style very much. I like Hank's Leather belt but it is a bit bulky. My priority goals are to reduce printing while maintaining stiffness. Decent comfort from the belt would be an added bonus. I've seen Blue Alpha Gear belts highly recommended but feel as though they are still ultimately the g-hook style belts. I don't prefer those because they take too much effort to hook/unhook when I use the restroom. I carry a CZ P01 and occasionally M9A3 AIWB. Eventually I'd like to use OWB holsters for practice. Is Nexbelt gtg or any other recommendations? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/35kAs8f

Hey y'all, Is there a subreddit for Ladies who carry? I know there are a few posts here and there within this sub but I don't see a dedicated subreddit for women who carry. If there isn't one, I'd be happy to make one but I'm very new to carrying and firearm ownership in general. I just think it would be nice to have a place for clothing recommendations, relatable scenarios and tailored advice. In no way do I mean to offend anyone and please don't shout at me about Political Correctness or Gender bais / lack of inclusion or whatever. I'm not meaning to make a big hoopla.p.s. Carrying in other’s houses morality

So, looking to get my ccw soon but the kung flu had to crush meh dreams. However, when things open back up i will start carrying. My question, what are everyones thoughts on conceal carrying in other people’s home? Especially if they have no clue you are carrying and YOU have no clue how they feel about it. And what if you know they don’t like it or are against it? Because part of me says “it is their home, their property, their right so respect that”. Not sure on the legalities. But, the majority of me says “their home might be their business but me carrying is my business and not theirs”. Anyway, i digress just curious via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3aW0nUZ

Refuse to be a Victim: Online Personal Protection Seminar

Hello everyone, I am here to promote that I will very soon be offering the Refuse to be a Victim (RTBAV) seminar, a nationally recognized seminar on personal protection, online via video conference. I was intending to start offering the seminar for in-person instruction around this time, but due to the current pandemic, I will instead start by offering RTBAV online, at a highly discounted price.

What is RTBAV?

Refuse to be a Vitim is a 4 hour seminar created by the NRA to teach the community the basics of personal protection. Topics include: Criminal Psychology, Physical, Home, Automobile, Travel, and Technological Security, and Personal Protection Devices. RTBAV focuses on developing mindset, habits, and preparedness. It is NOT a martial arts, fighting, or weapons class.

NRA? Is this a political or gun thing?

NO. RTBAV does not discuss politics AT ALL. Firearms are very briefly mentioned, as an option as a personal protection device, but RTBAV does NOT have any sort of firearms training.

Are you an NRA employee?

No. I am a private contractor, who is certified by the NRA to teach their curriculum. You are not paying the NRA. A portion of your registration fee will go towards covering the cost of a student packet, but outside of that none of your money goes towards the NRA.

Who are you?

My name is Levi Adams, and I have a passion for personal protection and self defense, topics that I have been enthusiastically studying for over seven years. In 2016 I was certified as a Basic Pistol instructor by the NRA. Later that year, I enlisted in the United States Army, where I served for three years as an infantryman. Currently, I work in security at the World Trade Center. And I recently completed my certification process to become an RTBAV instructor. With this announcement, I am finally kicking off a dream I have had for 5 years, of teaching others how to protect themselves from the dangers of the world.

How much does it cost? How do I sign up?

For a limited time, I will be offering spots in the seminar for only $20. To sign up, leave a comment below stating stating that you are interested, or message me directly. Once I get a rough number of people who are interested, I will order the student packets. As soon as I receive them, I will contact you with further instructions, and to begin scheduling seminars.

Please feel free to leave a comment or send a message with any and all questions. Stay safe, and stay healthy.

Help with holsters

After a while researching different holsters I think I’ve narrowed down my selection to 2. I’m looking at the ANR appendix lightbearing IWB with claw or the Black Rhino ACS. Questions about casually wearing a gun belt without a gun

I don't carry a weapon and don't plan to.But while shopping for a new belt for casual dress wear, the most attractive options I've found are gun belts.I'm just wondering if someone with some experience wearing a gun belt can help with a few questions before I buy an expensive belt. Are gun belts noticeably bulky compared to normal belts? As in, might a casual observer spot it and think the belt is oversized? Does the belt fit comfortably in most pants belt loops? How does wearing a gun belt feel compared to a normal belt? Is it stiff and inflexible? Does it restrict your range of motion any more than a normal belt? Can you recognize when someone else is wearing a gun belt? If so, would you immediately assume that person was carrying a weapon? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3aOjrEu

I apologize if this is the wrong sub for this, but I figured I would post it here anyway. My friend is about to turn 21 and is buying his first handgun, slated for CCW gun on his birthday. He's trying to get a hold of a Glock 19 Gen 5 MOS, has a TLR-1 HL 1k lumen model secured, and will be getting a Holosun 507c with Ameriglo Suppressor height blacked out sights. He has a holster picked out, and has a few belt options he is deciding between.I am trying to think of some gifts to get him that are things that would be nice to have as a Concealed Carry holder. My ideas so far include Cat Crap for his optic, Clens covers for his light, and extended WML controls since he has tiny Whopper hands. So, aside from my ideas listed, I would like to hear your thoughts on a few things that I could get him with regard to concealed carry that would be thoughtful. I'm going for small items, as I have a novelty container to give him his gifts in, and I'm not rich anyway. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/35gqPaE

Sig 365XL Vs regular “Compacts”

Hi guys! To those who have carried & shot both:I am being offered a trade right now: a new Sig P365XL for my trust M&P 2.0 Compact carry gun. Comes with a holster, ready to carry.I’ve had my eye on the XL for a long time but have never shot one (only handled). My M&P is fantastic but I know that it prints just a tad sometimes, therefore the XL would replace my shield as my “non-permissive” or deep concealment gun without being as puny as the regular 365.So my question is this: if you’ve shot the 365XL, how does the recoil compare to a G19/compact size gun? Does it shoot more like a compact or more like a “shield” sized gun?Have you guys had any problems bumping the slide stop and stopping it from locking back (that’s a huge pet peeve of mine in a gun)I know that I’ll be able to hide it fine because I can already hide larger guns on a regular basis. So, thanks in advance for any feedback. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2Sf9wBa

I'm kind of concerned.

I don't even know how to flair this. I chose "Training" because it seems to be the closest thing to what I'm referring too. Mental training is just as important as physical training. So, to get to the point, I am really concerned with the frequency of posts that seem to present a person lawfully carrying, yet seemingly looking for a way to use their CCW. Not like they are going around waving their firearm around, but we are seeing a lot of, "Almost shot a dude today," or some variation of the same.Responsible gun ownership and especially CC, requires a mentality that is prepared for the bad, but looking to avoid the conflict first. The gun is the last resort! Let me say that again. THE GUN IS THE LAST RESORT!I understand that there will always be misunderstood situations and so on. That is exactly why the gun needs to be your last choice to settle any difficult situation.I also realize that for the most part, I'm preaching to the choir. Then again, those that know what I'm saying already don't usually have a problem with this being brought up.We have seen too many posts with little to no context and the entire thing appears to be looking for a demon under every bush. If we are seeing it here, I'm scared to think of how often it happens without it being advertised. My simple statement is this:Settle down, Rambo! Stay alert, but don't actively hunt for problems. We have problems enough without searching them out. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2KIjQ0t

Carrying with suspenders?

I know this question has been asked before but I didn't really find a solution to my specific situation.I wear suspenders every day; not clip-ons, but the kind that button into your pants. Not only because I like them, but being diabetic, belts tend to put pressure on/irritate where my insulin pump goes into my body.Between the discomfort of a belt, and having a very thin frame (22yo, 145lbs) I'm scratching my head at the best way to conceal would be.I'm leaning mostly towards some kind of shoulder holster to wear over my suspenders, or wear CC suspenders by themselves. I also wear jackets daily so that wouldn't be a problem with concealment. Before I start buying shit though, I thought it might be wise to seek out the more experienced, and perhaps get some input from those who may have encountered a similar dilemma. What are y'alls thoughts? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2SeKouq

Reasonable dry-fire par times from concealment

Hey folks, I recently got my hands on my first shot timer (yay!) and being quarantined, I've taken to dryfiring throughout the day, everyday. I'm usually drawing from concealment and dryfiring at 3x5 index cards about 5 yards away and I wanted to ask you all what reasonable par times from the buzzer to the shot for different skill levels should look like and what I should be striving for.Every time I've looked on different forums, I see this blazing fast times for setups like that about how people are pulling this off in 1 second and I'm like ... how in the world is a novice like me gonna get close to that? Where would I even start? I guess I'm glacially slow because for me it's closer to 2 seconds if I'm really pushing myself. In any case, I hope the rest of you all pick up a shot timer as well! It's been remarkably helpful already and it adds an additional element to dry fire practice at home. Thanks! via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/35le6U4
