CCW on university campus

Hi all,​So i work at a local University in the hill country of Texas. The doors all state the 30.06 sign so i know i can't carry indoors but the security dept. stated I'm not even allowed to have my firearm in my car on campus and i have to check it in at their office and check it out when i leave. Can anyone explain to me if this is right or can i still leave it locked in my vehicle while i work and take it with me when i drive off the campus.
