Today, I applied for my Pennsylvania LTCF (License To Carry Firearms), and received it within 30 minutes of submitting the application in person. The process was super easy. The staff was friendly.I live in Bucks county. So, I applied for the license via the Sheriff's Office in Doylestown. You can apply elsewhere in Bucks, but rumor is that it's fastest just to go to Doylestown. Before going to the Sheriff's Office, I downloaded the application form from their website and filled it out at home. It's just one page. I could have just as easily filled it out there. All they require is basic personal info plus the names, addresses, and phone numbers of two references. If you recently had your drivers license renewed/issued, you'll also need to bring some proof of residency (e.g. 2 utility bills, mortgage papers, etc). There is no cell reception or wifi in the wait room. So, if you fill out the form there, make sure you have all the neccessary info with you.I showed up at the Sheriff's Office at about 8:30 am. The Sheriff's Office is in the basement of the courthouse, floor B2, take a left out of the elevator. There is a TSA style checkpoint that you have to go through to get into the courthouse building on the main floor. There was only one other gentlemen in the Sheriff's Office before me. There was no line or waiting once I got past the security checkpoint on the main level. I just walked up to the reception desk in the Sheriff's Office, told her that I wanted to apply for a firearms license, and handed her my application. Without hesitation she said, okay, wait here. In about 15-20 minutes my name was called. They took me back, snapped my photo, and immediately printed out my license and handed it to me. It was super easy. Now, when I walked back out into the waiting area after receiving my license, I saw the room was starting to fill (i.e. 3 to 5 people showed up while I was being processed). I could see some of them filling out LTCF applications.I had asked the lady who was processing my application if they get a lot of applicants. When I asked, she flashed me a look that said I had asked a question with an unbelievable answer. Then she proceeded to explain that processing LTCF applications keeps her busy all day long. It sounds like it's basically her full time job. She also said that, since the recent Florida shooting, they've had days where over 75 applicants come through. That's almost 10 people per hour. So, it sounds like the wait time (time spent in the lobby) can be much longer. It's probably best to show up first thing in the morning, as I did. That said, they appear to be trying to process these applications as quick as possible. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2FXsZPN
