USPSA style drills?

HowdyDo any of you compete in IDPA/USPSA or other shooting competitions? If so, do you find that the pistol stages would translate well into regular training and self defense?Over time, my friends and I have been slowly evolving from handguns to rifles to long distance shooting and now we really would like to get into running pistol drills (more for fun than competition). For exampleNo matter how you feel about Lucas and his "tacticoolness" he does offer pretty good advice and is a pretty good competitive shooter. I have access to BLM land in California where I could set up multiple paper targets/steel targets in any way I want with barricades similar to this using construction safety barriers. Also, does anyone have any example stages I could set up and try? I tried to find them online on different forums and what not but I'm falling short.Thanks. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2z391zx

Sig P320 aiwb holster?

I’m looking to get my first aiwb holster for my p320c. What are your favorites and why? I’ve seen that T.rex and StealthGearUSA are good but I’ve also seen that people hate them. I know it’s mostly personal preference but I’m just trying to narrow down my options. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2iQdTUE

CCW-Friendly Tailor (Dallas)

So, this might be an odd question, but does anyone know of a tailor in the Dallas area who won’t raise an eyebrow at tailoring a suit to accommodate carrying? I would be willing to make a trip to Austin/Waco/Denton, as well, if there’s nothing in the DFW area. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2gRtUFy

Let's see your business carry!

Hey everyone, in my opinion, business carry is one of the hardest things to pull off well due to having to tuck in a shirt, and the general tighter fit of clothes we usually wear. I'd like to see pictures of business carry along with details about the belt, holster, and gun as well as how well it conceals and if you can avoid the dreaded pelvic mass when carrying appendix. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2gSCQdY

Looking for a holster for my XDS 3.3" .45, and does anyone have experience with the Foxx Deluxe Trapp?

This caught my eye and I didnt see much mentioned about it. It looks similar to a Vedder but cheaper.I have this for my Shield and love it but bought the same company's XDS holster and it was impossible to draw since it rode so low in my pants, I couldnt easily get a grip but I like this style and it works perfectly for my Shield so something similar for my XDS would be great.Im looking for a holster for my XDS 3.3" .45 and I dont want to spend a ton. My important requirements are full trigger guard coverage, mag release coverage and full slide coverage on the body side. I was thinking of a hybrid but Im nervous about anything that might wear to a point it might bend inside the trigger guard (Ive heard leather can do this over time). Are my worries unfounded? I like to carry at 3 o'clock and I have little issue with printing with my Shield there in the CYA holster above.Any suggestions? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2hsA5R6

In a 2012 interview Dr. Fackler said, “The size of the hole the bullet makes, the .45 is bigger than a nine-mill. But how much bigger, by diameter, it really doesn’t give you the measure of how much tissue it disrupts. What does is the area of a circle. Area of a circle, it was pi-r-squared. It’s the radius squared. So, if you take your .45, your point four-five-one and your nine-millimeter as your point three-five-five, take half, take the radius, square that, and what you’ll find is that the volume, or the area, of damaged tissue made by the .45 is about sixty percent more than made by the nine.” via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2A2Egut

Good belt for not offset with AIWB

I'm looking to add another belt to the closet. Non leather and I carry a 19 and spare mag appendix. What's a good belt (preferably in coyote or tan)that I won't have to offset the buckle to the side? Call me dumb but I prefer my buckle front dead center. Not to mention, should someone see my buckle above my pocket when I'm removing something, that can raise more questions than having a bulky buckle up front. Thanks in advance! via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2xHpXtW

CCW legal question.

Okay, so consider this hypothetical:I'm a resident of a permitless carry state. I'm carrying. A relative that lives out-of-state comes by and drives me somewhere within my home state in his vehicle, registered to another state. We get pulled over.Is there anything about this that could get me or my relative in trouble if that relative doesn't have a CCW permit for his state? In reality he does for his state, and it reciprocates, but I'm curious what would happen if he didn't. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2A4e3vx

DW Valkyrie or ECO?

About to make my next purchase and looking into 9mm 1911s by Dan Wesson. I've narrowed my search down to the ECO and the Valkyrie but there isn't a lot of information online comparing the two. I'd be weighing the valkyrie with the officer size frame against the ECO for those interested. What I'd like to hear are some of the pro's/con's of these two handguns from people who have owned them and why one might be a better choice than the other. If it makes a difference, the one I end up going with will go into my carry rotation. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2hqEIeF

How fast it happens

While this involves LEOs and isn’t a civilian DGU it shows how fast an attack can happen and what you might be up against when an attacker has a knife and is close.Despite having drawn before the attack the LEO is still stabbed twice. Therefore I think this meets the subs requirements from a self defense standpoint.https://youtu.be/vOMNaJXparE via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2zTheFx

Just got my permit. First time buyer with some questions.

Howdy r/ccw,I recently was approved for my CCW permit in NY. I spent the wait time researching different firearms and reading up on everything I could. Since getting approved I've gone to a few local gun shops and held everything I could to get a feel for different guns. I've gone shooting a few times when I visit relatives in Florida, but I'm still very much a newbie. I own a 10/22 that I take to the range a few times a month, but being in NY means I couldn't even shoot a friends pistol until I received my permit. While on the range in Florida, I spent most of my time with glock 9mms (43, 26, 19 and 17) but tried a few other guns out as well (shield and a Springfield that's a similar size and configuration to a G19). I figured when the time came and I could finally get a pistol of my own, I'd listen to what everyone has said and just get the glock 19. Thing is...when I went to my lgs and held a bunch of different guns, I was quickly turned off to how it feels in my hand compared to the other guns I held. Now, I understand that I didn't get a really good idea of how they all function because I couldn't shoot them, but it just felt....bad...to me. The grip on the gen 4 and 5 wasn't comfy in my hand, and the trigger seemed less responsive to my ignorant hands. What I ended up preferring over all the other guns I held was a Springfield Range Officer compact (think it was the elite something model) in 9mm. I'm a big dude, 6'2" and 220lbs, so I'm not super worried about the size and weight of it because it didn't feel cumbersome at all to me. But what do I know...I've never done this before! Before I got my permit, I researched everything I could. Belts (got one!), holsters, carry ammo, laws, local training courses.....But I feel like everything I read about involving the actual gun has gone out the window since I got a few in my hands. So on to my actual question. Am I totally fucking up here?!I understand the benefits of a gun like the glock 19, but man....that 1911 felt gooood. Since I'm untrained (for now) and new to all of this, do you guys and gals think I'd be doing myself a disservice by getting that model of 1911? Or since I'm starting from square one anyway, will it not be a hindrance?Thank you all for the help. I appreciate having you here to help a newbie through all of this! via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2hpeQQj

semi wadcutters for self defense

I alternate between a M85 .38 special and A .44 Bulldog as my main carry guns. Both are loaded with hollow points but I was wondering about switching to semi wadcutters which was the bullet I carried years ago in both .38 and .44. What do you guys think about this? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2xBDTFW

Laziness put me in a bad situation

On mobile, so sorry for any weird formatting errors.

Something happened to me last night that makes me question if I could've almost been a victim of carjacking or mugging or something, and I want to know what I can do in the future to avoid this situation or react to it properly.

Last night I went with my fiancé (I'm a woman) to the grocery store around midnight to pick up some beer. I was too lazy to change from pajamas to regular clothes, so I stayed in the car while he went inside. I think this is something I will no longer do. While he was inside getting the beer, I knew I was in a riskier environment than normal, so I kept awareness of my surroundings. I got bored, though, so I started surfing through Reddit in my phone. The key was in the ignition, doors were locked.

A couple minutes later, this gold sedan-looking car (I have absolutely no knowledge of car makes and models) swiftly approaches our car from the other side of the parking lot, and before I know it, he stops right in front of my passenger door. Something in me just knew this wasn't right. He crossed an entire parking lot to get to me, and he was driving way too fast.

I backed out of Reddit on my phone and switched to recent calls in preparation to call my fiancé and tell him to get the frick out here. In those few seconds the two possible plans I had formulated (in case any shit went down) were 1) Try to bolt out my passenger door and just run for it 2) Clamber into the driver's seat and get the hell away.

I have no idea what prompted what happened next, but after those few seconds as the driver just sat there looking at me and I at him, he suddenly sped off really fast and careened out of the parking lot. Never even put his car in park.

Maybe he thought I was his potential drug dealer, or he was casing me out for some unsavory action, or he just suddenly decided he didn't want to go to the grocery store anymore.

Thankfully my fiancé came out right after that. And thankfully this story wasn't anymore "exciting" than that, but I'm just wondering what the best thing to do would have been if it had turned ugly. I mean, obviously, don't sit alone in a parking lot late at night.

Your experiences with Trex's NOVA belt or the Atlas Cobra belt for EDC?

I've used Hank's gunner belt for a year, but the huge belt buckle often makes me look like I have a belly, even if I place the buckle at the 1 o'clock position. I also don't like that I can only adjust the length where the buckle holes are. I'm interested in purchasing either the NOVA or the Atlas Cobra belt, both of which are easily adjustable, but couldn't find any good reviews. Anyone have opinions on these items? Looking for Concealable OWB for Springfield XDMc 9mm?

I am searching for an easy to conceal OWB for my Springfield XDMc. I am finding lots of options but none of them look very concealable to me. Living in the Dallas area I dont wear a coat very much so I need something that pulls in very tight to my body. I really like the Bravo Concealment OWB but they dont make one for my model of Springfield. I like the StealthGear Flex but that price tag is so steep. Hey all,I moved to a new state for a year and moved back to my original state (Ohio) where i received my CCW. I was going to renew it this month, and was told i need to take a re-certification class since i changed residence. Does anyone know what a re-certification class entails? I hate to waste an entire weekend going through the course again and pay again for the class considering I just did it not too long ago. Thanks EveryoneEdit: So i may just tell the person at the sheriffs office to go ahead and run my application anyway and risk the 50$ and get denied instead of going through the entire class again (my class was taken 4 1/2 years ago). For cleaning, I've taken the advice of some friends who shoot shotguns once or twice a year. Incog vs Eidolon

Got a new Glock 17 and have started to holster shop. Was rocking a crap tier "uncle mikes" POS holster and Im ready for something actually quality.Pretty evenly switch between and train side and appendix carry, so a holster that can do both is a big sell, and the reason i settled on one of these two over the stealthgear which was highly reccomended.Anyone carry with either or both incog or eidolon that can tell me which on fits better/is better. Im a fairly fit guy so no muffin top to worry about.Or is the stealthgear so good that its better to get a different holster for iwb vs aiwb? Thanks! via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2lsfjFG

Ultimate Holsters Review

Recently I got the chance to try out several products from Ultimate Holsters. I am in no way affiliated with the company and am here to share my personal opinion since I don't see much about them on the sub.Ultimate Holsters: Cloud tuck beltless IWB hybrid Ruger LC9sThis hybrid holster utilizes the fabri clip. I spend a lot of time in workout clothing, traveling to and from the gym. I do not wear a belt with these clothes and thought this might be a better alternative to pocket carrying my Ruger LC9s in a remora. The clip slides over your pants and you just snap it down. It will stay in place until you purposefully try to take it off. It is pretty hard to get off when you are trying. It has always stayed on my pants in the hundred or more draws I have done from it. I think, over time, it will rip your pants before it comes off. Simply, this holster will stay wherever you clip it.The kydex front completely covers the trigger guard. There is a small gap in trigger guard coverage on the back of the holster, it is so small that I cannot fit my pinky in it. This is a none issue for me.The retention of the holster when it is off body is not great even with the screws tightened all the way. You can flip the holster upside down and give it just a slight shake and it will fall out. When you are wearing the holster it has plenty of retention with the added pressure from your body. The spacers could be changed to a smaller ones, which would solve this issue easily. On the body side, it utilizes a silver infused soft backing. This makes the holster incredibly comfortable. The silver is used for anti microbial purposes. I am an ICU nurse and we use a similar silver cloth to help treat and reduce the spread of fungal infections. A thick piece of leather is sewn to the back, adding enough rigidity and support for your gun.I will continue to carry in this holster.Ultimate Holsters: Cloud tuck hybrid HK VP9This hybrid holster has excellent retention. It utilizes the same silver infused soft backing. It is more comfortable than my stealthgear ventcore, stealth gear revolution, and crossbreed super tuck. The HK VP9 is a fairly large framed gun, but it conceals just as well in this holster for me as my glock 19 in the stealth gear ventcore. The trigger coverage is an issue for this holster. The front kydex side completely covers the trigger. On the body side, there is a gap large enough for me to reach the trigger with my index finger. I am not to concerned with this since it is pressed against my body while holstered. This holster utilizes the steel clips, which I hate. They are hard to get on and off. They also are easily bent to a point that would render them useless. I will likely replace the clips with some polymer ones.Ultimate Holsters: Low profile OWB belt holster HK VP9I love this holster. It rides tight to the body. I adjusted the belt loops so that it rides a little higher and now it conceals well enough for me. There is an obvious bulge on my hip, but it doesn't look like a gun. The retention is excellent, I can hold it upside down and shake it as hard as I can and its not going anywhere. Yet, it draws smoothly. The trigger is completely covered on both sides. OWB is obviously more comfortable.IWB Magazine carriersSingle stack and double stack mag carriers have plenty of retention to keep your spare in place. It utilizes the standard polymer clip you find on most kydex iwb holster. They have the same silver infused soft backing over leather, making them very comfortable carry. Even with the large backing, you can get a full indexed grip on the magazine for a quick reload.http://ift.tt/2xxXk22 via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2zZBYw8

Recommendation for Glock 33 with Streamlight TLR1-HL attachment?

I am starting a job at nightclub which requires leaving work at around 4am. I plan on conceal carrying my Glock 33 during work but I'm mostly concerned for the walk back to the car at night. Safety

Hey reddit,I was wondering what the general concensus is about carrying with the safety on. I've heard a couple arguments but I tend to see more stuff about Israeli carry than anything else.I carry with a round in the chamber but I also keep the safety on. At the range, I practice drawing and switching the safety off as I get on target. It doesn't seem to slow me down but I know better than to think that a real life situation would be anything like a couple shots at the range.Do any of y'all carry with the safety on? Why or why not? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2idubmu

For folks in a state where you don't have to declare, what is your legal responsibility if you're asked?

A few months ago, my wife was pulled over for rolling a stop sign, and the interaction was pretty straightforward. She was carrying, but we've discussed the laws in Pennsylvania, and she didn't mention she was carrying. It did get odd, though. After the conversation was over and she got a warning, he walked halfway back to his car, but then came back to her window. He said something to the effect of, "I forgot to ask... are you carrying your firearm right now?" Flustered, she said she was, and he responded, "ok, no big deal... I just have to ask and forgot."So, assuming that the officer was being straight up, and I have no reason to believe this guy wasn't, does anyone know what the legal requirements are when an officer asks is you're carrying. As I see it, there are three options to respond with... Yes, no, and declining to answer.I would think the last option is pretty much a confession you're carrying, and I'd honestly lean towards saying "no", since it would seem that my right to conceal the existence of my weapon from an officer implies that he's shouldn't expect me to answer truthfully if asked. However, logical consistency is not a regular feature in our legal system. Also, if you say you're not carrying, and for whatever reason, the officer attempts to arrest you, his discovery of your weapon could go badly for you.Does anyone have any explicit legal references or cases regarding how you're required to answer the police if asked in a state that doesn't require weapons be declared? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2gSasMB

When to Draw

I while back I was walking on a bridge with a friend and a ne'er do well menaced us. He never got closer than 10 yards. He first asked if we could spare money and then suggested he could kill or rob us, saying that we didn't know if he had a gun or a knife. We wandered away and that was the end of it. Being on the walkway the only directions we could move were directly away or directly towards the antagonist.Obviously a weapon was not necessary and I'm glad but at what point would it be justified to introduce a weapon? Also, how do I add the scenario flair? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2zfa8iF

Pulled over in Indiana

So to keep it brief, I was leaving a friend's birthday party (no drinking) to go meet a girl. I was pulled over for going 65 in a 50 (not another during morning an evening traffic) around 10 at night. I was carrying my M&P m2.0 and as soon as I was asked about my licence and registration I informed him about my weapon being carried at my 4 o'clock. He told me to proceed with getting only my licence. After he ran all my info, he let me off with a warning because I was prompt with informing him about my weapon and because I was prompt about my concealed weapon. It was a very positive experience. My state isn't required to inform, but I chose to for both our safety. Just wanted to share my positive experience with a LEO while concealing. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2gWczyR

Any self defence tips or advice you can give me for this specific scenario.

Over the past few months i've had assholes trying to steal my dog. Trying to bait her outside having opened the gate without me hearing, repeated drive passes from suspicious vans and more brazenly, actually removing a metal grid i had covering a part of my fence. This has been annoying, police aren't being helpful and due to the budget cuts they can't even send a patrol out at the times i'm requesting. Give them regs of the vehicles and descriptions and i'm basically being told to be careful if you know you're being targeted. Like i'm always with her when she's in the Garden so this doesn't bother me as much, honestly i thought once they realised i stick to her like glue they would fuck off, i tried to confront the asshole walking past my house at 1am using a weird ass whistle and he just jogged off. They aren't being subtle. The problem is now, I've had to really vary my dog walks to avoid weirdos in hoodies and it's actually escalated to being actively followed in the street (not always, but a few times). There's been some dog fighting in the area that they're looking into which could be a part of this, but maybe they just want quick cash. I gotta walk my dog and apparently i can't arm myself cause in uk you should just be a victim. The only scenario they could feasibly get my dog is when i'm walking it, which i guess is why it has escalated to this point. How would I A: Avoid the confrontation if i spotted it going to happen B: Act if it did happen and i'm threatened to give over my dog. Any advice would be appreciated.

Ankle Holster Advice

Greetings! With it getting colder here (in GA), and jeans being more common, I'm looking for my first ankle holster. I'll want to carry outside my right ankle as that's the most comfortable place for me to reach. The two guns that'll likely be carried are my LCPII and (maybe) my G43.Also, with this being my first ankle holster, any and all comments, feedback, and advise is greatly appreciated. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2gKvJ71

Holster recommendations for a Jericho 941

Like the title says, I'm switching from a 1911 EDC to a Jericho so I can keep that sweet sweet .45 on my hip, but I'm having a tougher time finding holsters for it. What recommendations does this sub have for me? For context, I'm 6'3" and ~280lbs, and I'm mostly looking for an IWB unless you guys have something else you highly recommend. Thanks for any help. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2ibWYYO

“Active Shooter” mall Halloween costume

Shooter costume at mall kids event stirs outrage http://ift.tt/2lovnZb a guy dressed in all back and open carrying a black AR style rifle (fake) as a Halloween costume. Thoughts on what to do as a CCW? Lots of people were freaked out, mall security and I’m guessing the cops were called. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2ydtynE

Some kind of padding between holster and body?

Hoping you guys can help me out here! I have a kydex holster that is uncomfortable against the skin. I’ve tried undershirts but don’t always like to wear them. Wondering if such a product exists that is just a piece of material that goes between the kydex and skin? Is there a way I could jerryrig it if not?Tried the hybrid style holsters and they just aren’t for me so this would be my best bet in adding some comfort. Thanks! via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2ibgTXz
