Carrying on-duty (FF-EMT)

Hey y’all, recently had two very sketchy calls where PD wasn’t present. My employer allows concealed carry on duty, so I was looking for options as far as recommended firearms as well as carry options. I wear a well-fitting uniform, so if possible recommended alternatives to IWB carry are appreciated!Note: I am not a LEO, I plan on acting as I would carrying off duty (avoiding conflicts at all costs, escape and deescalation, etc.) I don’t want to argue about the ethics behind EMS “creating more patients,” I just want to go home :) via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/RUeQgdx

New Set up

I just bought a Springfield hellcat and ordered a tier 1 holster….is there like a cheaper option for holsters so I have something while I wait the 5 weeks on t1c? Just something I could grab at small town gun shop or academy/bass pro via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/e4OKkwF

P365 Advice

Looking for some advice from those of you who carry a P365. I recently gifted a P365 to my fiancée for her protection and my peace of mind. I took her to the range and told her that I wanted her to shoot it to see if she feels comfortable with it. Long story short - I ended up with the P365 and she now has a hellcat. No worries, I needed a smaller CCW. A little background: I have been shooting my entire life and hit the range about once a week. I consider myself a fairly good shot, nothing special, but I know my way around firearms. I seem to struggle quite a bit with my accuracy on this gun. Shooting way low, no tight groups, having to aim almost at the ceiling just to hit where I’m aiming, etc. This definitely troubles me, god forbid I ever need it, I’d like to feel confident in my ability to defend myself. I cover as much real estate as possible with my grip, and feel in control of the recoil, but I can’t seem to figure it out. I shoot 147 grain (my other 9mm seems to only like that grain). Can anyone give me some tips on how you remain accurate, or am I SOL and should consider some other options? Going to the range later this week and would be more than happy to take a video of me shooting it for anyone willing to help. Thanks! via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/DqL3gPs

Drew my weapon in the thought of a threat presence today

Why I’m writing this, I’m surprised by my reaction time to the moment I knew something wasn’t right. Mainly because I’ve always thought about how I’d react in such a situation. It was stressful in the moment but ended with relief.I went to the store with my son, I remember closing and locking the door. We get back and I unstrap him from his car seat. As we head to the door I’m looking for my key to open the lock, once I found said key i look up and see the front door cracked open. Unfortunately by the time I saw, he was already two steps in. I immediately grab his shirt, pull him back, and draw to a low ready to check my immediate surroundings. My wife had gotten home without her car and didn’t tell me. She was getting it worked on in the shop. I asked her from then on to tell me she was home if she didn’t have her car in the driveway. I’m glad it ended the way it did but could have easily been a bad day.As stated before. I was surprised in myself of the reaction time when I noticed something wasn’t right just wanted to share a story from a long time lurker. Thanks. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/G1kowQf

Anyone here carry a Walther PPS?

I’m a huge Bond fan, and my wife wanted to get me a “Bond” gun for my birthday.Bless her heart, she confused the Walther PPS with either the PPK or P99. While not officially a Bond gun, I absolutely LOVE the PPS and I LOVE my wife!I’m used to carrying .380 mouse guns, like a Bodyguard .380 and a Sig p238, and this is the largest gun I’ve ever had apart from when I carried a Glock 22 on duty when I was an LEO. Anyone here carry a PPS? How do you like it? How do you carry it?Thanks! via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/kB0DrHA

Are there any holster options for an HKP30SK with a TLR-7 to be used with the Phlster enigma?

I’ve been looking around for a couple weeks on his sub and on my own trying to find a way to add the phlster to my carry, however I’m kind of married to the Hk p30sk and a weapon light. Any help Is appreciated via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/LlyuEBg

Cheaper ways to train?

I’ve been getting 9mm cases for a “decent” price the last 6 months but I’ve been blowing through a thousand rounds each month at the range.A ban on online ammo sales that don’t pass through an FFL has been proposed here and will likely pass (Illinois). This would make in store ammo purchases go up and make buying online worthless given the fees I’d have to pay (already talked to an FFL about it) I’m looking to just stock up instead now and need cheaper ways to train. Any ideas?Been looking at mantis x plus a dry fire mag since I hate racking the slide with my laser cartridge.I have also been looking into getting a Taurus Tx22 to shoot much cheaper. Is there any other option similar to this that can provide at least some recoil? Glock 19 air gun or air soft gun?Any tips at all would be helpful! via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/pDkXY24

Why full size lights?

So I’ve been carrying for about 5 years now, but recently added a tlr 7 do my carry piece. I’ve noticed a trend of gravitating towards full size lights, namely the tlr 1 and the x300. I really enjoy the tlr 7 because it sits flush with my compact slide guns, which are usually my edc. But even forgetting about carrying, I enjoy how unobtrusive the smaller footprint is, and find the brightness and battery life to be more than adequate for other tasks such as home defense with a handgun. I can see an argument for having a further light throw on a rifle, because it’s more realistic to be shooting at further distances with one anyways. Am I missing something? Never used a full size light so I’m literally in the dark when it comes to them. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/acXysbu

Has anyone else noticed Shield type sights printing more?

I'm newer to carry so maybe this is just a me thing, but I notice a difference. I'm still trying to find the right compromise of lighter, fitting clothes with different iwb positions for my daily life, and I noticed the Shield sights are further back than on most guns. They're at the very end of the slide instead of about half an inch up. I guess that gives you more sight radius, but it also seems to make the top corner of the gun poke into my shirt more noticeably (especially at 3-5 o'clock). I have a double stack, larger gun with normal sights and it's almost less noticeable in that position.I'm sure I'm overthinking how *important* this is, but I'm wondering if it's at least a thing others have noticed. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/SoVil78

What can you do? Trust your gut.

https://ift.tt/7yWRDTZ article talks about a guy walking down the street being surrounded by a group of people and then one casually says they have a gun and take him to the ATM to withdraw cash.I'd love to hear peoples suggestions on how to handle. I know that avoidance is probably the only good option here.Folks, If your gut tells you something is wrong, don't be lazy, get out of there or take steps to protect yourself. This article gives me the chills because it highlights how fast things can go from normal to out of control.Article:" PHILADELPHIA - Police are asking for the public help to identify several suspects they say carried out a daytime robbery in Old City last week.A 27-year-old man was walking on the 200 block of Market Street when he was surrounded by a group of men in broad daylight. One suspect told the man he was armed as he started to demand money, according to authorities.Police say the group then forced the victim to withdraw an undisclosed amount of money from a nearby ATM, and fled the scene. No injuries were reported.Anyone with information is asked to contact police." via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/tLVS81b

Anyone give up on 3/4 o'clock carry and go appendix?

I've been carrying just behind the hip but I don't know how well I pull it off. Strong side carry is better overall for my activity level and I'm more comfortable with it.Who has tried carrying strong side IWB? Did you stick with it or give up and go appendix and why?I don't know if I used the right post "Flair." I'm surprised carry position isn't a tag. Thoughts on Vedder IWB ComfortTuck

When I first started carrying 5 gears ago, I ran a Vedder LightTuck with my CZ P01. It was finished well for a Kydex and I was never really comfortable with it. I found Blackarch Hybrid Holsters with a 3/4 wrapped Kydex over a breathable dri matrix backer and fell in love. I've never had a more comfortable holster, BUT I just got the Sig XTen and they don't make my holster for the XTen yet.Has/does anyone carry using this new hybrid from Vedder? It looks a bit cheap in the pics and I wonder about the finish quality. How is the retention? Is it adjustable. I need to carry this in the summer in bear country on trails with kids around (need to keep as concealed as possible). Any insight would be welcomed. Thanks via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/w8AV4CJ

Wife is against guns

Hey everyone,Some background info, we have had the swat team called to our neighborhood, a school shooting a week ago where I go to college, and just yesterday we discovered our neighbor is looking into our office with binoculars watching my wife. We live in a very violent city, think 8x the number of murders/violent crime as compared to the rest of the US. I am set on getting a hand gun for the home, we do however have a baby in the house and my wife is liberal and against guns. At this point I am thinking I might just go buy the fucking thing, I have already taken a class on how to use and store it properly. I have shown her statistics from the NRA on gun self defense use and discussed that I don’t currently feel safe here just walking around with nothing. Im wondering if you guys could help me with some more talking points to argue my case? I feel I am not doing my son justice by being exposed like this, if that makes sense? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/HDXIUxT

Looking for opinions from people with more knowledge than myself.

I'm looking for a good holster manufacturer for IWB carry at 3 or 4 o'clock as well as a good belt. I've tried appendix and can see why people prefer it, but my belly hangs out too far, and I'm not really big into working out. I'm 5'11" and about 240. I wear a size 38 jeans because I like them a little loose. The waist isn't the issue, though.I'd like to hear recommendations for affordable and comfortable holsters for around $100. Less would be ideal, but I understand you get what you pay for.I have an M&P Shield 9 performance center for summer carry and a Glock 19 for winter. Right now, I carry the Shield in an alien gear kydex holster, but it feels too bulky, and my Glock is in a leather holster I bought from a leather worker.Any help in my search would be very much appreciated. I'm just not super familiar with all the different brands out there. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/ch4OeHv

Should licensed conceal carriers be allowed to carry in gun free zones?

The whole point of the permit is to show that you received proper education or training to carry in the first place. The only thing gun free zones do is give people who don’t own firearms a false sense of security…and we all know that criminals don’t give a fuck about laws and carry wherever they please. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/YL2lKo6

Blue flashlights for self defence?

I live in the UK and have been adamant for many years that a good flashlight is my best tool for self protection, deterring crime and defence. My go-to is the Olight M2R Pro and I'd say this is my best defensive light but I recently acquired a Noctigon KR1 with a deep blue W2 LED, the model is a designated thrower but with a royal blue colour LED for fun, you can see where this is going. Blue light is known to have a significantly higher damaging effect to the eyes and the concentration of the beam makes it incredibly potent, add on that blue is much more attention grabbing due to police and ambulance lights being of the same colour and it seems to me that this is a far more "aggressive" configuration and would definitely mean that it would have more power during the day and that they'd be blinded for longer after you turn it off and run and a certain element of "wtf was that?". Now of course the downside is that it's much worse at general illumination that alone means that I don't think it's superior to white light, but I'd like to hear your opinions on this concept, especially having it secondary a normal small pocket light with good CRI.

small/skinny guy carry tips?

Hey guy/gals. Im 5'6 130lbs been cc for about 8 months. I carry a mp shield and am looking for tips to reduce printing. I run a las ronin sidecar and also have a stand alone appendix holster. I find grip printing to be an issue and the only solutions I can come up with is hiking my pants up and cranking down on the belt but it creates an uncomfortable and unatural draw.I'm just wondering how other similarly built guys carry and if yall have any tips. Will a Wilson Combat grip module save my skin from the sandpapery P365?

I got my P365 in November. Been wearing it daily, IWB 4 oclock. No worries now, I can wear a Tshirt or undershirt that's tucked in which keeps the gun off my skin. But in the summer?
