Is not reacting or engaging easier than I think?

As far as someone challenging you to a fight? When someone is yelling and calling you names its easy to feel threatened and yyell back.

I feel its not as hard as it seems to just disengage. Unless the person becomes aggressive can't you just turn the other way and simply walk away, right? Let them call you names, who cares?
