What is a good free book that discusses how to ethically and legally defend yourself regardless of the country you are in?

I realize that the law on self-defense varies from country to country, sometimes even significantly. Nonetheless, there seems to be some commonality.

I am looking for a book that explains to ordinary people comprehensively how to legally defend themselves regardless of the country they are travelling or living in. Perhaps a book based on human rights, international ethics/morality and international norms might help with this. For eg. Fair Trials Internataional has guidelines for getting fair trials regardless of the country you are in. Their directions are to help you get a fair trial even across widely different laws and legal systems.

Can anyone suggest such a free book or resource? If so, can someone provide a link?
