Shadow systems mr920 shootability vs 365xl with grip module and thread on comp?

I've been thinking about getting an mr920 as a cooler weather carry gun. Currently the only gun I carry is a stock 365xl with holosun 507k. To me it's the perfect balance of size and performance if you're like me and only wear gym shorts and t shirts whenever possible. Before I had the 507 on it I shot it side by side with my bud's mr920l that also had irons. I shot the 920 WAY better. I've practiced a lot since then plus got the red dot and haven't been able to shoot the 920 since but no that I'm at least as good with my gun now as I was with the 920.Still I know a bigger gun would be more comfortable/easier to shoot and I like a gun that takes glock mags incase shtf because they're simply easier to find. I know the best answer is to try both setups but with all that said how similar would my gun with a comp, red dot, and chunkier grip mod(like a wilson combat) feel compared to something like a mr920 with a red dot?Would the grip and comp make that much of a difference in reduced snappy-ness? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/CM6WGPi

Tenicor vs henry holster

I bought a Tenicor Sagax Lux 2 but also heard some good things about Henry Holster. I wanted to know what people thought about Henry Holster Ember vs Tenicor Sagax Lux 2 for glock 43x.Edit: Forgot to add that I’m buying an holster for a glock 43x with TLR-7. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/HsTc6ra

Should rig road-trip win!

This sub doesn’t have much love for shoulder rigs, but I wanted to share a great experience. I had to drive 650ish miles (and then back a few days later) for an event, and IWB is not appealing for long drives. I have a beautiful Falco shoulder rig - vertical so it doesn’t sweep anyone (with the hinge for easy draw), custom configured for my M&P 2.0 Compact 4” with RDS, and it was perfect for the road trip. I had a light jacket and a button down shirt on the seat so I could easily cover up at rest stops and gas stations, so I was fully concealed and exceptionally comfortable. So don’t knock the right shoulder rig for the right circumstance! via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/HmKUFYf

EDC and Kids

Hey y’all! I’ve been carrying for 4-5 years now and haven’t had to explain to kids why I carry. We now have a two year old daughter who questions everything and will repeat the answers back randomly. What’s the best way to explain to her what my gun is and why I carry it without giving her too much info to repeat back in public / to strangers. TIA via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/yMhnKDb

How much Ammo should I use to make it a worthwhile practice?

with a Bi-Weekly / Twice a Month Trip to the Range routine, How much Ammo usage would you guys suggest to be a worthwhile practice? I feel like shooting "as many rounds as you can" isn't a good way of pratice or financially feasible.I would like equal practice for my two 9mm. Would you say 50 Rounds per gun is too little? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/8Ad7zOV

Aftermarket triggers can cause malfunctions?

Getting back into CC/EDC, and this guy's video on CC errors came up in Youtube. He claims aftermarket / lighter triggers can cause ftf.In your experience, is this true, or bs? I'm curious then why most pro competitors seem to have aftermarket triggers that I see. If true, then is it recommended to run whatever you want for comps, but stay stock for carry? If false, curious people's recommendations for my G43x, P365, and Ruger Mk IV (last one for plinking and bowling pin shoots, not carry).https://youtu.be/GwDYWp5-Ucc(He also says weaponlights can cause malfunctions, which I find surprising - maybe if you limp wrist, but can't see how it would otherwise).Btw, it was so distracting seeing the cameraman in his glasses. Who wears sunglasses while talking directly into camera for a YT vid lol. Maybe he's good and that's why he has a million subs, but after this YT algorithm suggestion, not sure how impressed I am. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/27IHbmg

Appendix carry questions.

I'm looking into appendix carry now, generally carry at 3 with my Vedder holster but usually have a hoody on when carrying so its easier to conceal it. Sig p320 x compact. I'm not a big guy at 5'7 and 185 so it's kinda hard for me to Carry this time of year. Mainly because I don't wear super baggy clothes. Biggest question is what's the best way to carry appendix in the summer? I wear a 34/30 pant size and trying to avoid going 36 because they start getting baggy and a Large t-shirt fits me well now. Looking to purchase the vedder pro tuck since they have the sale going now and I really have liked my other stuff from them. Mainly looking for options other people in similar situations have tried and figured out. Any help or advice would be appreciated. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/L8OIxEf

AIWB with striker fired

I’ve always carried either DA/SA guns or 1911/2011 appendix due to either being able to thumb the hammer when holstering or having multiple safeties on the 1911/2011. I’ve never done striker fired AIWB, due to reading stories of clothing getting caught when holstering and pulling trigger. However, recently I am warming up to the idea, but would like to get some pointers/encouragement for AIWB striker fired. For those who carry AIWB without a claw

What is your preferred method to eliminate the grip from printing? Do you carry centerline to evenly disperse the shape, or do you carry around 1 o clock to try to put the grip closer to the curve of your pelvic area? I currently have an M6 from Werkz. I feel that for my body, the claw takes up a bit too much room. I've ccw'd without a claw on my holster in the past, so I'm considering going back. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/q7wKLRU

Dual or Single Clip for IWB 4 o’clock?

For context, I am a 5’10 slim build with a little pudge in the middle. I currently have a Black Arch Protos-M hybrid dual clip holster which is very comfortable. Prior to that, I tried a couple of single clip holsters which were all Kydex. That was 3 years ago so my memory is hazy but I recall the Vedder I had pinched my skin. I have a different EDC now (Glock 48 MOS) and need a new holster. Leaning towards another Protos-M as I love the mesh backer, the adjustability, and the retention system. But I’ve also read that dual clip hybrid holsters aren’t as concealable as single clip all Kydex holsters. Makes sense given the smaller footprint of a single clip. But, are any single clips meant to be worn anywhere other than AIWB? What do you recommend in a single clip, if so? No recommendations for dual clips needed as if I’m going that route, I’m perfectly content with the Protos-M. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/D1d8Qx7

What realistic handgun options have you found for someone who rarely trains?

I am a huge handgun fan and shoot all the time. My wife isn't and doesn't. I've taken her shooting several times just for fun, and she gravitated toward my full framed revolvers in .38 special. However, she only shot them in single action, which just doesn't make sense in a self defense situation. I had her shoot a G17 once or twice, but she limp wrists like crazy. Obviously you can train through that issue, but realistically she's not going to.I've been wanting her to have her own pistol for a while now, so I took her to the range with three options. 1) S&W 351pd m, 7 shot .22 wmr J frame revolver. 2) Kimber K6s DASA. 3) Taurus TX22.We started with the 351pd. This thing has zero recoil and at least shoots something a bit hotter than 22lr. Well...she can't pull the trigger in double action reliably. When she can, it's ridiculously slow and the muzzle waves all over the place. So it's a no go for sure.Next up was the kimber. It's got a smoother and lighter trigger given that it doesn't have to be sprung to ignite rimfire primers. But she still couldn't hit the broad side of a barn in double action. Last, the TX22. She can load the mags. She can rack the slide. And most importantly, she could get shots on target quickly and accurately. I've shot thousands of rounds through it and have had it jam only once. I had her shoot it with just her weak hand, no jams. I shot it myself using the worst grip imaginable (at the very bottom of the grip using one finger and a thumb) and couldn't get it to jam. So it was the clear winner. The only other realistic option I can think of is my G42, which would be nice because it's smaller and packs a much more respectable round. But you can absolutely limp wrist it. The shitty grip experiment I did with the Taurus basically guarantees a jam.I'm curious what direct experiences you've all had in this regard. The internet experts all seem to think that a revolver has an advantage for people who neglect training and neglect their guns. I get it to an extent. Grandma could put a .38 in her sock drawer for 25 years and pull it out and have it go bang. But they're also recommended for people who don't have the grip strength to rack a slide, and that just doesn't make sense to me. If you can't rack a slide, you probably can't pull a DA trigger either. At least based on my wife's experience. So for now she gets the TX22. I suppose at some point we can rent one of the "easy" .380s out there and give it a try. What other realistic options have you found in my situation? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/jyx4ulD

Custom VS Universal Holster

So I've got a USP 45C that is not my EDC but a gun I'd like to have the option to carry but finding a light bearing holster for it has been a pain (only 1 company I know of makes one) So how do you folks feel about universal holsters as an alternative? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/EwZ6xY1

Best ccws for pocket carry under $800

I have a problem here. Over the past year I have learned that I have a problem with the metal on my belts and suspenders. They make me breakout with tiny and sometimes painful red acne or something along those lines. So I am assuming that iwb is a no go. I also don't want to tuck my shirt in and open carry. Undershirts are a no go because I live in Oklahoma. It's hot as balls here most of the time and I even get too warm in the winter time, unless I'm outside and it's really cold. It's probably because I'm fat honestly lol. So I think my only real option is pocket carry. I turn 21 in 11 months and I live in Oklahoma so it should be permitless carry. Thanks for the recomendations. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/GhrPdfV

Comfort/confidence in your carry

I'm just curious how long it takes some of you to feel comfortable or confident with carrying a new pistol. I've had several different carries over the years and have never had an issue carrying a brand new pistol. Never 2nd guessed whether it would do the job if/when I needed it to. That being said, I've heard some people say they have a round count minimum that they won't carry without having 'X' amount of rounds through said pistol. Truly curious of some of your thoughts. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/LbQ9NlM

Opinion on scenario

So there's a couple people having a fight in the parking lot of the grocery store when we walked out. Jensen was about halfway between them and us when we noticed what was going on. So Kyla, my wife called Jensen her son back to us and said get over here right now. The guy who appeared to be amped up on drugs of some kind started talking shit to Kyla about shut the fuck up the world's not a nice place deal with it as he's walking towards us which is at the front door. I take a step away from him and Put my left shoulder to this dude towards the middle of our group and get my gun ready to draw incase crazy decides to have a real bad day and turn the aggression he had for the person in the vehicle that he was fighting with towards Kyla or anyone in my group. Dude doesn't turn towards us at all as he walks into the store.

After he goes in I'm super relieved. I tell Kyla that I was ready to shoot a motherfucker. She starts talking shit and saying that she's the only one that even said anything to him and that I wanted to shoot him.

I told her I literally disengaged myself so that there wasn't an altercation between me and crazy and only prepared to protect her from him if he decided what you said was enough to turn his aggression on her.

She's being extremely upset saying the kids don't feel safe.

I told her they should feel extremely safe, had I not been ready to protect them they may have had something to be afraid of.

She's also saying I "didn't protect shit"

WTF

Vedder Disappointment, recommendations

Received my LightTuck today. Wore it all day long, and Im already pretty disappointed in their "Claw". I thought the single screw might not be a problem since I saw a lot of recommendations for this holster. You apply pressure with a sturdy belt at any angle and the thing wants to rotate. Not a lot mind you, but enough that it reduces the effect of the "Claw." I'm going to give it a few more days, but I'm already 85% sure I'm going to return this. For the $90.29 after tax and shipping, I think I can find better. Before I completely decide to return it, since I waited so damn long for their turtle shipping. I'm looking for some suggestions, do I buy a ModWing and add it myself? Or look at other manufacturers. I think I'm going to be looking specifically at those that use the ModWing this time.Considering:WingmanEclipsenot really interested inT1C - not convinced about their clawtenicor - i think i want a softer wedge instead of their built in.I carry a G19 MOS Gen 5 w/RMRCC and my belt is a Beltman bullhide w/stiffener. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/g7SJYs5

Mental Check Check

I just wanna say I’m ok. But I have to ask… does anyone else ever have the thought run through there head “Damn… I could literally just press the button right now and it would all be over.” ? Or something similar. I think you guys know what I’m talking about… I don’t want to do it, I love my life… and I have so many around me that depend on me, but I can’t help but have that passive thought hit me every once in a while. I know that I’m young, (23) and I have my whole life ahead of me, and I love life so much. I’m just curious if anyone else deals with this. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/iju8Yqs

Fifteen years of CCW, here’s what has worked for me

TL;DR: for appendix carry get a Glock 43 or a J frame, combine with a Phlster or the thinnest Kydex holster you can findI am pretty sure I have owned every major subcompact / CCW- freindly handgun at one time or another, ranging from .380 to .45, and I’ve been through enough holsters / carrying “systems” to bankrupt a small country. I was thinking I’d post my thoughts for others to benefit from (or not) with the caveat that this is all highly subjective and YMMV First off, I am 5’10” tall and about 190 pounds right now. My weight has ranged anywhere from 175 to 215 during this time. I would describe my build as “barrel shaped“ in the fine tradition of my Russian ancestors. I am in pretty good shape but tend to carry extra weight right around my middle like a belt. This makes it hard for me to carry at 4 o’clock because I’ve got love handles getting in the way no matter how good of shape I’m in, because until they stop making food and wine, I’m always going to have a little bit of fat back there. Thus I must carry appendix. some other things that are important to know before you read any further: first, I have to dress up a lot for work so I tend to wear suits / sport coats and my shirt is tucked in. Second, after reviewing a report somebody put together about the number of shots fired in the average defensive encounter, I don’t personally see the need to carry anything with more than six or seven rounds. Again, you may have a different opinion. finally, I decided that for me the best caliber is 9 mm / 38 special. .380 guns tended to be too small for my hand. I’ve carried all of these guns and I’ve decided that with autos, how thick the gun is is the most important consideration. I don’t feel the same way about revolvers which I will explain below. More recent carry weapons and my opinions are as follows: Kimber Micro: nice pistol but prone to jam at the range no matter what kind of ammo I said through it. Not confidence inspiringWalther PPK-S: also jammed too frequently for my tasteSIG P365: great carry gun except for one thing: there is a gap between the magazine and the grip that will pinch your hand when you fire the gun. The remedy is to put a rubber over grip on, but then that makes the grip too thick for my liking (even though it is just a fraction of a millimeter it makes a difference)Kahr P40: I had quality issues with my Kahr, and 40 is a snappy round to practice with in such a small packageKahr PM9: easier to practice with but I also had quality issues with this pistolSpringfield XD-S .45: nice gun but too thick for me to comfortably carry concealed / tuckedTaurus Slim 9: I actually loved this gun but they had a penchant for going off accidentally 🙄Springfield Hellcat: nice carry gun but mine had quality control issues Ruger LCP: too small for my handS&W bodyguard and Shield 9mm: I found the safeties on these really odd to actuate, again that just might have something to do with the size of my hand and the length of my fingers, your mileage may vary. I’m sure there are some forgotten, but these are the guns I’ve carried over the last five years or so. Now onto my two winners: S&W 642: even though the cylinder makes it thicker I have found this gun very comfortable to carry especially in a pocket holster. I think it has to do with the weight distribution, on a revolver, less of the weight is concentrated in the grip so it keeps it from splaying out awkwardly. this gun in a pocket holster is frequently my casual carry, I don’t wear super tight pants so it’s very concealable, it just looks like you have a wallet or phone in your pocket. It is obviously slow to draw but that’s the compromise. Glock G43 and G43x: I was not a huge fan of Glocks generally speaking, mostly just because I thought they were ugly as hell and I didn’t like their trigger. However, I finally came around and tried out both the G 43 and the G 43X. Ultimately I decided I didn’t need the extra bullets so I stuck with the regular 43. This gun, for whatever reason (again I think it has to do with the width and weight distribution) has been the easiest for me to carry. Also I think I could feed rounds made of tin and chewing gum through it and it would still go off, I have never had an issue with ammo and I feel like the reputation for reliability as well earned. As for holsters, like I said above I have literally tried everything and the conclusion I’ve come to is that you either want the thinnest possible Kydex holster or you want a Phlster. The Phlster takes a lot of dialing in, mine looks like it was cobbled together by a mental patient at this point. I used a yoga block to make a wedge and after much experimentation and some Velcro tape I managed to get that wedge in the right place. I also ended up going with a sport belt instead of a regular belt. Once I finally got it set up to my liking through trial and error there really is no better way for me to carry a concealed when I am dressed up for work. I can tuck my shirt in, go to meetings, do whatever I need to do and you cannot tell it is there. I actually used to carry my J frame in one of these until I got the Glock. When I just don’t want to mess with the Phlster, I use a Kydex holster with a “tuckable” belt clip. it’s quick to get on and off, doesn’t conceal as well, but again the main consideration is thickness. I also have one with a regular clip which is fine if I’m going to be walking around with my shirt untucked.I have never personally found that having a large leather pad or two clips instead of one makes much of a difference, and in my experience it’s usually detrimental. Like I said, I think you just want the most minimalist (but still safe) holster you can get your hands on if you are not willing to go with some sort of deep cover rig or a pocket holsterAnyway I hope this is helpful, if you have any questions let me know via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/IDVQMOG
